PENANG BRIDGE MARATHON 2007

Recommended Posts

i've registered for the half!!

So , did you pay USD 25 or RM25?

RM25...if it's USD25, then i won't go liao..heheh..

good one, .. when I registered they didn't ask for any ID, they

seem to think that usd25 is too much for foreigners as well.

i register for half too.

IMD is right... I manage to register after KLIM, but they were out of T-shirts and no touch&Go card. In the 22.5 category, the registration fee for Malaysians is RM25 and for

foreigners is USD25.... ridiculous. At that difference how can they attract foreigners to

come & participate in this "Visit Malaysia 2007 year" event.

I paid RM25 for the 22.5k when I registered on Saturday, although there were no goodies. I thought we collect them only at Penang.

Is there any online registration available? planning to do the half :)

Aiyo Spiffy....if you were to ask me, I would think that by traveling a few hundred km all the way there just to run a 21km, it's a little bit expensive and may not be as fun as you think. Do consider the full marathon as I think you can make it ^_^

Thanks for the encouragement, Ultra!

err... cannot lah, i'm only targeting full marathon for the year end Stan Chart. Want to do at least 2 half m before then. the Penang one just seems to fit into my schedule quite well & also gives me about abt 2.5mths to clock the mileage :)

I was at the KLIM expo and saw the counter for the Penang International Marathon booth. Ask got chip and the lady say "very cheap". I asked again "Got chip" and she replied "yes..very cheap". Then I realised she doesn't get my question and I didn't ask correctly and so ask again "Will there be champion chip that the runner tied to the shoe for timing". She turnd to another lady and the older lady say "oh...no. don't have".

So no champion chip. Base on feedback I gathered, it is manual recording.

May let go this run from my list.

Cheers !

haha... good story kayano. KLIM is one of the few runs that is cheap with chip. Others are mainly what

I call "ribbon" runs...run around collecting coloured ribbons.

Try PutraJaya run, it is still ribbon run but the route is quite clear but a highway up & down hill run.

hmm.. i was initially quite enthusiastic about this run, but am having second thoughts about it given the prices for foreigners -i could get my aunt who lives in KL to register for me, but i don't want to run under another name.

bah.

I did the so called half marathon which is actually 22. somthing km.

No manual timing either, fat hope! How on earth you expect the volunteers to clock the time for the casual walkers and serious runners in a mix !

Runners gathered in a school..no sound and flag off..the gate keeper got annoyed with the pushing runners and slowly opened the school door and asked the runners just run to the bridge...and that's the start..many runners behind were still unaware of the start and appeard like taking a morning walk..

"Ayer habis"..let the runners beware. Bring your water if you want to finish the run in good shape. It's thumb down.

I hate the gate thing. They made us wait at the gate last year and they opened only 5mins before flag off time. We had to rush to the starting point which was about 1km away. Really hate that. Last year's organiser sucks. Previously it was organised by the English Press(The News Straits Times) and Great Eastern, Samsung as main sponsors, but last year no big sponsors and was organised by the government. Sigh....

ya, I too remember we was all "locked" up inside the university & the gate only open 5 mins before the start time, then had to do a long walk to the start point & before we reached the start point, the gun went off. When we reached the startline, had a checked with the road marshal & they say the race had already started !! Then we was like huh ! Started already, we still dunno !!!

yeah, last year was really bad. I remembered in year 2003 they actually opened the gate 30minutes before flag off time so we can still have enough time to walk to the starting point. But last year I had to rush to the starting line once the gate is opened, but the race started when I was still 200m away. Hopefully they'll improve this year.

Well, the worth visiting beach is still Batu Ferringhi beach...but is getting too commercial, with sudden influx of restaurants, beach resorts and hotels etc. The rest of other beaches are relatively "polluted" and not suitable for swimming without getting skin allergy.

Food wise, depending on what you have in mind, the road site hawker foods are ok. The popular place is Gurney Drive, but the food is getting more expensive. It can cost Rm5-6/plate or more. Flied Noodles is at least Rm5/small plate. You may need to take 2 serving? Haha…and maybe that is the reason why many local guys have “pui” tummy? :/

At my current age, I no longer enjoy or fancy those so called “delegacy” anymore, health is still number 1. ^_^

going to give this a miss..

as my wife put it:" 10 hours of travelling with no shopping, beach no nice, food so so," :Hypnotized:

R u sure......??

It may taste well to people who only travel there once in a blue moon, but for people who are eating them day in and out, it may mean otherwise. And it's true, you may place the best cooked laksa in front of me and I still don’t feel for it. So to many that is hell of a great taste, but to me, no big deal already.....

Hahaha...but don't let my opinion undue influence and discourage you, they still need the foreign currency ^_^

    • Maybe uncle shares quantity of runs for monthly, weekly and daily in 2021... on the Leaderboard "Challenge"...you shall start to see 10K+ participants joining for end-of-the-month.. you will notice... uncle is "catching" the top participants...mere HM and FM efforts to catch them...while almost 7,000 are "chasing" uncle... since uncle was previously ranked 3rd in April, so you will notice that for the month of May, uncle will be ranked negatively or postively from the absolute "3rd" position... Those that has sudden risen to the Top 10, look at the +1K or +308, uncle shall place these participants as "dubious", and will "monitor" and expect them if they will be still be competitive in May. They must be consistent, like uncle, otherwise, they are simply "flute" cases...meaning on non-run activities such as biking or boarding... This is a just silly "competitive" daily tasks that uncle enjoys, motivation to why HM and FM efforts are the best runs to remain in Top 10 always. Another one is uncle's calendar for May...besides FM Virtual Races...  now you can see... uncle must chong another 450KM from today to make the challenge "700KM" in May 21 a reality. You say you can do, show the results that you can do, complete and finish the "700KM" Monthly Challenge you can do...and sustain the "3rd Position" in April to be also "3rd Position" in May...because uncle will be disappointed to see "RED -ve" that is all...as motivational "push" factor 😃
    • that OSIM chair for SOH's use as gaming chair.. Well-Being Chair...SOH's for healthy lifestyle...gaming.
    • what a photo that you managed to find after i mentioned on the gaming chair,.... hahaha
    • siong... it will take me a while to complete what u can complete in a month... hahah
    • uncle happened to come across this event...150KM or if closer to 160KM (100 miles)...     open till end of 2021...😄 same theme with Round Singapore or Around Singapore or Singapore Round Island.. As long as this is Virtual, Anytime Anyplace, realistically, can you even cover 10KM Challenge or more per day? uncle can. 50KM/160KM is 100 Miles, can you cover in 2 weeks? uncle can. 500KM, can you cover in 2 months? uncle can cover in 1 month. 2,021KM in 1 year? uncle can cover 6,000KM in 1 year. This is just Quantity in Distance Challenge lah...simply if you are registered in SCSM Virtual Club, simply participate in these weekly challenges and virtual races for free, you are motivated to be in the Leaderboard Ranking for free. like what uncle did in April with other 10K VR members who started to accummulate their distances and points...till the last day of the month.. Whether Team Challenge for 100 members or more to do 1680KM...you just need 3 Koh Papa <FOC> to achieve and accomplish...Bronze level. Aiya, uncle already rewarded self with this one... because this is achievable in 2021...and wish there was a Medal for 7,000KM. Now that will be a Real Challenge for uncle. That Challenge will be good enough for GOLD level for this event, right? 🤣
