S.TGR Marathon 10K/21K/42K - 15 Nov 2020

Recommended Posts

I am still baffled as to why are some organizers still adopting a "Wait and see" approach by shifting race dates to end of the year, instead of just plan it for next year's edition, or just go virtual. Even SCSM is still gunning for a possibility of a go-ahead by Decemeber.

Sure things are getting a bit more stable here now, infection rates are consistently low for a prolonged period, and regulations are slowly getting relaxed, but the outlook of the pandemic is still gloomy till the end of the year and I really don't think mass events will be allowed this year. It is good to be optimistic about things and we all want things to go back to normal asap, but I do wish people would adopt a more careful approach to things getting back on track instead of taking a risk that will involve a heavy cost.

Some people are just in denial. Many other behave as if they are invulnerable to the virus. That's why it's impossible countries like US, Brazil or India to control the infections.

Even here where we have a lot of KS people (all the different KS variants), there will always be people or companies who choose not to behave in a social responsible manner.

It can't be help. It's just the nature of the beast (pun intended!)

only uncle (42KM) and @prisangel (21KM) participated in this Virtual Edition ...

submission using Strava app only....start 7am - 3pm (original Real Run requirement in the past)...

strava.jpg

interestingly, *Strava Link is required...

uncle submitted on Nov 15...

Just to share on Strava app...How to spot cheating on Strava...

cheat-on-Strava.md.jpg

so honorably race means "moving" time is taken as qualifying...

honor.jpg

still pending, until final ranking and results on Dec 15...

STRG.jpg

uncle was ranked 8th based on "Moving Time" and not "Elapsed Time" in "Top 10 in the 42KM" Category..

so was @prisangel , ranked 9th based on "Moving Time" in the 21KM, but "Top 5 in Female 21KM" category...

STRG21K.jpg

however, uncle 21KM submission was not accepted, because the route must be on "designated" Punggol Park, unlike 42KM (anyplace).

Registration is FREE, but add-on uncle included...$9

finisher2ba3402950f0c7bb.png

what would @prisangel and uncle win if till Dec 15...remained as Top 5 and Top 10 ranking respectively...Prizes awarded will be...

STGR-prizes.md.jpg

@prisangel will get goodr sponsored sunglasses...

sibei shiok! :)

Finally, uncle completed the series 42K/21K/10K/5K/3K (Family)/1K (Kids) for STGR Marathon Virtual Race. Registrations are FREE during Covid-19 (because Race was cancelled). However, if you do you best and be ranked in the respective Virtual Races, you will still be awarded Prizes as though you were in Run-in Place Races (Real Runs). Well, uncle is happy to say, are ranked to win prizes (wearables and eatables) for all the categories. Best of all with FOC Registrations :)

Well done Uncle on your completion and the prizes! Wonder if Pris also got them as well 😁

as long as Pris remained as Top 5 Female in 21KM, the pair of Goodr Sun Glasses will be hers...but competition is getting tougher with many overseas participants (trail running elites) coming in to "joster" for top 5 or top 10 positions...just like World Asics Ekidens Virtual Race... fast and furious until the end of the Virtual Race (15 Dec)...

possibly both uncle and Pris may be dropping out of Top 5/Top 10...got consolation prizes for Last 5...lol...uncle can go for that also...:)

uncle was narrowly "beaten" from Top 10 in the 5KM race...

oh well, ends well, got prizes to wear and to eat...FOC entry for all categories...uncle hope they remember to carve uncle's Finisher Medal with 5KM/10KM/21KM/42KM...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all from this forum thread...[End] 😄

    • We shall be ending in 3 days... having committed to 700km... Just sharing on the perspective as an ultra runner and how "monthly mileage" helps...LACTOSE THRESHOLD...         LACTOSE THRESHOLD is not about "being how lian" or "being smug about leaderboard"...it is about staying discipline, be consistent in daily mileage according to Target mileage [weekly/monthly], lots of patience with proper REST and RECOVERY, and must be at a perpetual state of "injury-free" status at all times... Giving up...Fatigue, Pain and Hurts are always there...Weather Condition...Day/Night...Career Commitment...when there is a better priority in life, then why commit to LT? Another Life-Time experience for uncle while we enter into "Covid-19" Endemic - Covid-19 regularly found among particular people or in a certain area - from June 21, 2021. Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, Stay LT (Long Term) in Runs...😄
    • Singapore Athletics nominates Soh Rui Yong for 2021 SEA Games. Will he get to go? https://themonitor.sg/2021/06/14/singapore-athletics-nominates-soh-rui-yong-for-2021-sea-games-will-he-get-to-go/ Reality check: However, whether he gets the nod to travel and represent Singapore would still be reliant on the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC ) selectors, and if the SEA Games takes place at all. Said Soh, “I started training for the 1500m this year for the first time in eight years because we haven’t been able to travel for marathons since last year, and we haven’t had any marathons held locally.
    • 1. Visit Lady Ice in London and run the London Marathon there. 2. Hold on to it and try to get a slot for a physical run somewhere that Aegean Airlines would fly to before May next year. Is there a Aegean Airline office here in Singapore to redeem your free ticket?
    • 1. I think it would look good on SNOC if they decide to show graciousness and put the past behind them - SRY already did anyway, and made amends with the new SA committee. There isn't any negative news surrounding SRY for the past 2 years too, as he seems like he stopped competitive running for a while. I don't see any reason not to accept the nomination based on merit. That said, I am slightly disappointed that he is not going for a marathon anymore. He was sort of a motivational figure to me and inspire to go for more marathons when he was the SEA games champions in 2015 and 2017. 2. I believe the eventual consensus would be to agree to let Vietnam postpone the game to next year, when the Covid situation should be more or less stabilized already after most of us are vaccinated. Like the Olympics or Euro cup, not likely that these sports events get cancelled. But I am a little amused that Singapore actually step forward to volunteer to host the game if Vietnam is unable to, always the "ostentatious" image that our government wants to portray to our neighbours...
