agreed on what you have said...better have "source" of reference..because there are several instances of current court proceedings which we do not get ourselves involved...and therefore...we have been cautioned to not to partake in any stand on any party..whether SA, SNOC, Ashley Liew vs SRY...we don't really want to take any side...we merely present the facts...

and uncle being involved in SA as official in competitions...have met the key holders...as well as being Coach...met and knew who are the Coaches..as well as National Athletes under them...of course, did not meet SRY personally, because he raced mostly overseas...

what uncle meant is that...there will soon be a qualifying mark for upcoming SEA Games (at least must be of Bronze level in previous SEA Games)...SA should have announced for "trials" and athletes (card system - do not want to say too much, too technical) must meet the deadline...and surely, SRY must want gear up for it...let's say is SCSM 2020 if there should be an elite-run only and if he is invited...that will be great...

of course, with the upcoming SA Elections (after the shocking withdrawal of the incumbent committee, whom uncle knew who they are)...it is important to know..which new committee shall be taking over...VP of Competitions shall have an hand in the qualifying matters...simply trials are held, and timing are taken according to World Athletics (formerly IAAF)...

SRY needs to be qualified...and to be recommended by the new SA (whoever wins...) of course, whether SNOC will "endorse" like in 2019...

chances that the TeamSgp Athetics led by Edmond Pereria is formiable.. and would definitely include Ang Peng Siong (why does an ex-National Swimmer got to do with Athetics)...again, based on uncle's limited information..just merely a "speculative" remark..

of course, with the pending legal matters with Ashley Liew... and what happens if the verdict is "there is really no Sportsmanship effort as evidence by Ashley - slow down"..then who will be next...given say a counter-lawsuit proceed by SYR ...then shall be vs SNOC...with reasonable doubt, will SNOC strip off that "Sportsmanship" Award from Ashley Liew because SYR won the "truth" of the matter...see I told you so...it is the "truth"...lol

Saga...saga.. uncle witnessed from last time SAAA...then SAA...now SA...soon maybe Singapore with no Athletics...Ang Peng Siong, maybe you can come to advise Athletics...how to Run better..

uncle's comments are solidly personal...and please don't sue until uncle's "portable pants" till bankrupt.ok?

SEA Games qualifying mark has always been the same. What would differ is the qualifying period, which SA will release to the public (so even if they don't want Soh to know, Soh will still know). If Soh manages to race a marathon within the qualifying standard and is faster than the qualifying standard (high chance) and the top 2 fastest in SG, he is likely to be nominated. I am personally of opinion that his past transgression (as claimed by SNOC) were 'punished' by his 2019 Sea Games omission, and therefore should not be used for any possible 'punishment' for 2021 Sea Games.

Also incredibly unlikely that they would force everyone to come down to the same location for a trial to face off against each other, we have athletes located in other countries (Cheryl Chan - steeplechase/1500m, Lui Yuan Chow -1500m both in Australia), similarly we may end up having a situation where Serena Teoh (whilst working overseas) popped out of nowhere to qualify like in 2019...

Even if the court case between Soh and Ashley goes south for Ashley, there is very little Soh can do to sue SA, because it merely acted based on the sworn declarations. If however, SA is found to have lied, coerced witnesses to lie, then they will be taken to task by SNOC and possibly CPIB, totally not in Soh's hands. The only way for SA to get counter-sued by Soh is for them to come out and say stupid things again (please Malik, you already make Soh rich enough)

let's hope Singapore Best Qualifier for Marathon is represented, and not because "power politics"...shall we..

lol..covid-19 new hobby..."felt almost as good as winning the SEA Games Marathon!"...at least winning the SEA Games Marathon is still driving SRY...👍

again, reminding all here...due to the impending legal cases...we merely present opinions which are based on facts and not "speculation" because it involves almost all stackholders..The Authority, The National Sports Body, The Committee, Officials, Coaches and Athletes, and involve third-party Clubs aka Members, now we have a New Player (to challenge SA to represent the current Committee by Elections)...tied up with webs of layers of Affiliations (whistle-blowers included)..Sports Fraternity (alliance ever shifting)...oldies vs the youngs...no ending...

as such, uncle will present what's is the most current happenings, based only on published facts...and leave personal feelings...aside...less even to be a critic...without understand the known facts or reasons...less to judge or even conclude...

Strange, because I see marathon races starting up again, especially overseas. Many of these races become 'elites only', whereas some countries just open up fully to whoever is in the country (like Taiwan, their Standard Chartered - bronze label race is open for registration from the end of this month). Also, don't be fooled by the wordings that SA wrote.. It is unlikely that this 2 trials are qualifications trials in the same vein as the USA Olympic trials... SEA Games 2021 starts on 21st Nov, close to a year away. Stating it as 'qualification trials' merely hints that the qualifying window has opened.

But then you mention something about Soh counter-suing SNOC with regards to the Sportsman award? Hmm... "who will be next" comes under opinion or speculation 😅

But yeah, agreed on your last paragraph, Soh vs Ashley case coming to an end tmr, with Soh giving testimony. Hope the truth prevails. Will be interesting to see both sides' comments after the judge gives the verdict. Lots of popcorn in the next few days 🍿

to answer why run events are starting at full swing with Covid-19...

qualify.md.jpg

reading on the text of SNOC on SRY... uncle quote from the full text

"Mr Soh's continued refusal to acknowledge that he was wrong in his allegations about Mr Liew."

and

His (Mr Soh's) rejection of the opportunity to retract and withdraw his false allegations,

Reflects poorly on him as an individual and as an athlete who is supposed to serve as an example to the sporting youth of his country"

even on the outcome of Liew vs SRY...win or loss...

uncle quotes again from the NROC text

"Mr Soh's allegation in effect implied that SNOC's ....

(SNOC) As a public institution tasked with approving selection of athletes to represent Singapore at major Games"

speculation, judgement...is that SRY must want NROC to "retract" these alleged statements...legally...this was according to a comment made by a public member from SRY's FB...to advise legally...perhaps..from wrong to prove right....false allegations are actually right and the truth ...SRY is not a poorly athlete as an example of sporting youth of the country (Singapore)...

wah imagine uncle kena likedat, dive into Bedok Reservoir and never be floated for life....except during 7th month hungry ghost..then run...

of course, some will start to conclude...abuthen will SRY be included in 2021 SEA Games? 😀

eat 🍿 lah, see what happens lah...be happy!

IMO there is no winner in this trial.

If Ashley succeeds, then SRY will need to cough up some monetary compensation. Both Ashley and SA will feels vindicated.

If Ashley fails, SRY will be vindicated but then an aspersion is cast no only on Ashley and his integrity and account of the event, but the administrative integrity of SA and SNOC will also be called into question.

Liew's witness - the runner from Cambodia Kuniaki Takizaki probably makes the most compelling case for Ashley since he was one of the competitors. Of cos, his claims that it was 'totally impossible' to catch up with Ashley if he was running is quite impactful. The other witness watching from the sideline is less so.

So SRY will need to call his own set of witness who were also competing during the race.

who will be the best selection for Sea Games 2021 - Gold only potential...nothing less...

Flashback on events plaguing SA...

SA has been plagued by problems in recent years, with public spats between athletes such as Soh Rui Yong and Ashley Liew.

The NSA is currently embroiled in legal proceedings with two-time SEA Games marathon gold medallist Soh over comments made regarding his omission from the 2019 Games.

After the biennial Games in the Philippines last December, the NSA was chided by national sports agency Sport Singapore for internal discord, with three coaches resigning soon after.

The situation on the track was similarly disappointing, with the Republic's contingent bagging just three bronzes, after claiming eight medals (including two golds) in 2017 and nine (three golds) in 2015.

Last month, former SA vice-president Loh Siang Piow, better known in the fraternity as Loh Chan Pew, was sentenced to 21 months' jail for molesting a teenage athlete twice in 2013.

I did not know about the online fund raising effort from SRY and personally I do not like how he phrased his online appeal.

"If you would like to support my push for justice ...etc "

Pls lah. This is a civil case. What is he talking about?

He is the one being sued for defamation by Ashley. He is not the aggrieved party. What 'justice' is he talking about?

A defence against a defamation suit is all well and good and he is entitled to it as accorded by the law.

But to call that defence a 'push for justice' is stretching it a bit. He sounds like one of those conspiracy nuts who think the whole world is out to get him, that he need to be silenced etc etc.

Unfortunately, as much as all of us want an end to all these, the conclusion of this case is probably just the beginning.

Don't forget that SRY has filed a counter-suit against Ashley. And then the suit against the SA is still outstanding.

I think we need to prepare lots more 🍿 for the coming months.

I honestly cannot relate why an athlete need to slow down for other competitors in a race when their competitors encounter unfortunate scenarios such as taking a wrong turn.

I understand that some athletes have this mindset that they must compete under the fairest conditions as possible, so that their win is more "honorable". Or maybe some athletes are just more compassionate than others. But there are so many uncontrollable factors and unforeseen circumstances in a race that it is simply impossible for a run to be 100% fair to all the athletes.

In a race, all the runner should just need to focus on is to give their best, and any deviations from that is a letdown to their training/ trainers, and their time and hardship that they have put in to prepare for the run.

EXACTLY........ When I heard this news on Monday, immediately I connected it with this topic here....... 😅

In my personal opinion, if a slower but lucky athlete slows down for the faster but unlucky one, it indicates that the slower runner just wants to slow down with AWE, he/she would feel shameful if he/she wins the game due to opponent’s fault...

I think only Ashley himself really know if he did really purposely slow down or not.

While I admire SRY on his achievement and humility even as a champion, there could be chance he may have observed wrongly especially from a distance.

Then this whole issue becomes just a misunderstanding.

    • everyone has their own goal and aspiration... of course, motivation is same as running in a race...how do you feel to run "slower in distance" while many runners chong "faster in distance" than you...they sure feel "smug" of enduring and faster while you will feel "smug" less with fatigue and slowness... uncle admires @autumnrunner because he had injury last year in 2020, and he has shown the interest to pick up where he left off...and we know he wants to make a comeback...and we must respect all who can and those who need to be motivated and comeback in 2021...for 2020 has been a "washout" year for all... from knowing @autumnrunner... he has been always a great endurance runner (talented)...having being overseas marathons (has shared of great experiences from his blogs), and uncle is sure, he can make a comeback during Covid-19 in 2021... running quantity is a great sure way to build the foundation for a better quality in endurance running capability... so @autumrunner... you can make a greater comeback with uncle (sharing with challenges in Virtual Races/Challenges, and some are affordable)...and don't forget, if there should be a Team Relay Marathon Event (virtual or physical run), you should be ready to say "Yes". right? Leaderboard motivation is "not smugly" way to show off... in fact, that is an intrinsic motivation with the "mind" of unlimited distance more than the "physical" of achieving the impossible distance...that is, if everyone can do it, why not, challenge yourself...use "mind over physical".. uncle got to motivate Team sgRunners too..."why not!"...in the Team Events (Ekiden and Global Cross-Country Virtual Race)..."even if we were never be the Elites!"...but we did it!...like the Elites!!...by Just Do Your Very Best!!! Btw, uncle has invited (private chat) Sandy (thread starter) to join us for 10KM Team Relay to see if she is able to join a Team...perhaps, @autumnrunner will you want to join us as Team Member, if are you ready. The Global Cross Country 10KM Team Relay has been extended 31 May. 10KM for Sandy is great enough distance for her...no need what 1680KM challenge...with 100 members...that is what the organizer wants...profit with quantity participation....but you DIY and sponsor in your runs..haha.. Uncle has once (with Lady Ice) invited privately with weeks of running recruitment drives/chat groups to almost ALL in this forum for Global 10KM Virtual Race for Team Members, and respecting why you didn't respond, and accepting reasons why you cannot participate. "Have not been running lately". That was in February. So what is today, May? If you are keen and ready, you are invited. Just PM uncle. When is the best time to pick up running for Physical Run races, because Covid-19 seems to be not over, and already we are moving on to the 2nd Anniversary of Covid-19, with the current knowledge that there is a new variant that is even more infectious. When all races (mass events) are cancelled because of Covid-19 in 2020. Uncle had just received from Singapore Athletics that this month's Local Race (Run Competition) for Pre-SEA Games Selection will have to be cancelled due to tighter Covid-19 measures. First time in 2021. July will be the likely date as announced on their run calendar.  Don't stop your brisk walking, jogging or running activities. Try try any distance...do 1KM..2KM..5km...50km....500km....5000km...clocked them with your running app...daily, weekly or monthly for those who are able...just move on according to your "smugly" ability. "Dubious" running activities are for those who are Riding/Skate Boarding/PMD...just remember to set these activities as "Riding" mode on your Running App and not "Running" records.  All of you, once you were able to do HM and FM during the normal days of Pre Covid-19, so don't stop believing that you can't do these distances during Covid-19. To sgRunnerTeam members who did 10KM Team Relay with Uncle, can you stretch beyond 10KM and run Xtra distance than 10KM...16KM is the great wall of china for HM...Challenge yourself to break it (that took uncle weeks) and surely you will be motivated with a HM Virtual Race/Challenge like the 2XU 21K RUN aka CHALLENGE (6 Max Times Challenge). Otherwise, look for Overseas Virtual "smugly" ones..some come with nice race packs and great medals too...you must earn them as both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. "Smugly", if uncle could do HM, FM or Ultra Challenge, why can't you. 😄 Suely @autumrunner is already a "smug" believer of Virtual Races/Challenges, Just Go for it! Anyone "smug" enough to join uncle for any Virtual Race/Challenge, just PM uncle.
    • Don't have to compare what you can accomplish with others.  We all lead very different lives, and some people have more time to do what they are passionate about, others not so much. If you only have time to run 50km a month, that's good also. If you can run 500km a month, fantastic, but that's not a bragging right because those who can't clock as much mileage as you do have other more important commitments in life. Life is unfair like that, but that's how the way it goes. Most importantly is to have some time out to stay healthy. Be it 500km or 50km a month. Don't have to feel bad clocking a lower mileage, or feel smug clocking a higher mileage than others.
    • Maybe uncle shares quantity of runs for monthly, weekly and daily in 2021... on the Leaderboard "Challenge"...you shall start to see 10K+ participants joining for end-of-the-month.. you will notice... uncle is "catching" the top participants...mere HM and FM efforts to catch them...while almost 7,000 are "chasing" uncle... since uncle was previously ranked 3rd in April, so you will notice that for the month of May, uncle will be ranked negatively or postively from the absolute "3rd" position... Those that has sudden risen to the Top 10, look at the +1K or +308, uncle shall place these participants as "dubious", and will "monitor" and expect them if they will be still be competitive in May. They must be consistent, like uncle, otherwise, they are simply "flute" cases...meaning on non-run activities such as biking or boarding... This is a just silly "competitive" daily tasks that uncle enjoys, motivation to why HM and FM efforts are the best runs to remain in Top 10 always. Another one is uncle's calendar for May...besides FM Virtual Races...  now you can see... uncle must chong another 450KM from today to make the challenge "700KM" in May 21 a reality. You say you can do, show the results that you can do, complete and finish the "700KM" Monthly Challenge you can do...and sustain the "3rd Position" in April to be also "3rd Position" in May...because uncle will be disappointed to see "RED -ve" that is all...as motivational "push" factor 😃 Update: uncle just recollected in 2020...reported this on the eve of 2020... consistency...determination....perseverance...nothing is impossible.. so where is the top 3 participants of Dec 2020...especially Deric Lau...1660KM....dubiously, Missing In Action in 2021
