Mok Ying Ren, Runnng for Rio

Mok Ying Ren beats SEA Games qualifying men marathon mark of 2:29.09 at the Gold Coast Marathon yesterday morning.


In fact he ran 2:26:30, was over a minute faster than Indonesian runner Yahuza's gold-medal effort of 2:27.45 from the 2011 Palembang and Jakarta Games.

For the race in Gold Coast, he finished 7th in his field. He improved his personal best by four seconds, his old lifetime best was 2:26.34 set in 2011 at Christchurch Marathon.

"I'm definitely going for a medal. Honestly, I don't think it will be a problem at all," said the 25-year-old.

I'm very sure he was boosted by girlfriend Dinah Chan's triumph yesterday. Considering his personal best 2:26 was done in 14 degrees, today's 2:28 is a fantastic achievement under a different weather. A far cry from his SCM time 2:58 two weeks ago. Maybe he purposely did so to throw his rivals off guard.
