MR25 Ultra Marathon 2012

Recommended Posts

Any idea what the finisher tee looks like? At least we know it will be from Mizuno and not some brandless tee.

Good job MR25!

From just a cert, to singlet and now to finisher tee. It'll be great if there's a finisher's medal as well especially for a long standing and historic event like the MR25 Ultra that has been going on for years. For commemorative value of course.

Hmmm...... the MR25 Ultra may also be the longest edition in Singapore's running race history.

2 years ago, finisher singlet is by mizuno

last year, finisher singlet is by 2xu

this year, no idea.

I think looking at the MR 25 website, they are partnering with Mizuno, so most likely the finisher tee is by Mizuno.

Congrats MR25 for achieving a new milestone in awarding finisher tee :thumbsu:

My only remaining two wishes are;- the 10km run can take place in a full loop instead of a U-turn at the half-way mark and a finisher's medal! Hooray!

Hi gentle,

Nah, the MR25 Ultra is still too hardcore for me :hocky:

But I'll be there at later part of the day to accompany and support my fren on his last (5th) loop and thereby covering at least 10km for the day.

See u guys there!

5th loop will be mostly walking :D

you running this year or not?

Ah, i see. it's better for safety, yes?

not sure - i heard it was because NParks doesn't allow...

i certainly prefer to do loops

My only remaining two wishes are;- the 10km run can take place in a full loop instead of a U-turn at the half-way mark and a finisher's medal! Hooray!

ok, hope your wish come true some day :)

yo..MR25 ultra marathoners..how are you guys..uncle is back..and..is really not happy about..rains here..and looks like..red clouds at night always means..oh oh..morning got or not?..and uncle the weather voodoo..got to flip coin..both heads..and forecast..rain..winds from north..in their 20s km/h..this weekend..better wear trail running shoes with grips, and get supporters with hot soup to replenish energy..if can..backup wears..

best wishes..just "Do It!"..last race on 2012..

yo.. wake up all.. full moon and stars so clear..means weather is clear for Friday..and if MR25 track for ultra marathon 2012 is going to be "baked" for another 24-36 hours.. should be better for trail running.. uncle go recee..and trail trail run for fun and joy..bye bye

continue.. "The course is an out and back loop starting at MacRitchie Reservoir’s Recreation Centre. It is mandatory that runners complete each 10.2-kilometre lap within two hours. As an added incentive, all finishers that complete five laps within the 12-hour timeframe will receive a 2XU finisher vest and finisher certificate."

ok..the trail route..3 different types of terrain in distinctive colours.. beige (sand), darker beige (sand with rocks/pebbles) and black (muddy)..of course, when rain soaked.. sand will puddle with water..and black muddy ones will be muddier..for this latter one will make sure..all trail runners shall queue up single-file..walk and no run..otherwise..mud bath for all..

route..like roller coaster.. at its extreme..near to SICC entrance..about the middle of the route..so..going..up..then..SICC entrance nearby...down..all the way to petaling hut and u-turn..so for seasoned runners..must have known when to endure all the way..anaerobic style..then recovery with downslope..

terrain..soft..like order steak..medium raw..of course, if rain..even softer..so question..soft or hard good to run?.. how about uncle asks you..ever run beach sand before?..newton's third law of motion..every force..with every reaction..meaning..every normal step..the responsive uplift on soft terrain with be "soft and low"..and energy is lost..into the soft terrain..and energy for legs to uplift..will be lesser..in other words..need to step harder..to get that higher uplift of legs..to run stronger..and hence distance..so..if those think that easy to run in soft terrain..sure..prepare to tire very fast..for the same distance if run on harder terrain..and some more..upslopes and downslopes..techniques..like antelope running..spring and light..upwards thrust and horizontal motion..

aiya.. towards 9am..hordes of family bonding groups.. mother-boy boy..father-girl girl..bf-gf..grandpa-young mistress.. all go to the same place.. treetop walk...so be prepared..oh no..hold hands groups..block everybody..along route..same way as towards petaling hut..

weather..very sunny and bright in this morning.. but, towards afternoon..oh no..the dark clouds pattern continues..the condition at MR25 route if must remain as good as "medium"..must need at least 24-36hour of no rain, but great sunshine..otherwise, back to that black muddy ones..and that sandy puddle ones..keep fingers cross..next 36-hour..on weather..

mmm.. foxy Gilch..your prayer..seems a little bit wet..and you got follow the hungry ghost season prayer protocol or not..burn "money or credit card or gold bars"..seems heavenly toilets still leaking..need to pay more for plumbing service..uncle now got to contact O$P$ instant credit..and foxy Gilch..all charges shall go to your credit..for every minute of no rain...for you never pray enough..so..start burning..and..also..tonight..expect O$P$ at door step..for every minute of no rain in MR25 ultra marathon..so burn fast..for no rain...quick..race starting soon..

Haha, sorry Uncle!

I woke up at 6 and hear the rain, I was like "oh no..."

Seems like a light rain, hope the cool weather will help the runners.

Guess it'll be a little muddy too... Some parts will be slippery...

So run safe everyone! Good luck and good running!

You're all Winners!

Cool drizzling weather at the start leading to rather warm weather when there were no shades. Atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Volunteers were more than helpful. Managed to do 5 laps for my first ultra. Chillax pace for first four laps but walked a lot in the last lap. The big stones after the ranger station towards the U-turn and the countless up and downslopes were tough. Enjoyed myself very much. Well done MR25!!

P.S. my garmin clocked about 11 km per lap. This would mean total distance is 55km instead of 52km? Anyone had similar distance measurement?

yo..wonderfulblevic, checked your time..5:30pm wrote forum..race supposed to end 7pm..why never do 5 more laps?

yap..uncle joined participants in run..or actually walked..last lap mostly..4:30pm - 6pm..and wah..rain fell..like cats and dogs slightly towards 5pm..luckily uncle got two beautiful sis..asking uncle why can wear sandals and run..rocks..slippery slopes..and yap..big stones..no lah..steps actually to break falls..towards ranger station..and towards the U-turn..yap..uncle kena offered banana of half dozen..as they said..all completed last lap (5)..all never come back..and uncle grabbed..pocari drinks..half carton..and journeyed back to the end point..of course, together with the two beautiful sis MR25 ultramarathon runners..we ate bananas together, drink pocari together..all last lap..except uncle is first and last lap..what a joy..

end point..uncle skip..since uncle no participant..kepo..what participants this year get..OMG..medal..uncle last time don't have..and finisher tee..what the..in 2011..was 2xu..and 2012..mizuno again..and quality..so..mmm..no comments..

lost and found.. except for the free pokari drink bottles, and bananas..and uncle again found medal drop on ground after finishing point and collection tent..wah, so lucky..and again..found unused condoms, made in japan (10 out of 12 unused) at men's toilet just in front of shi shi place..and $2 dollar note once stepped out of toilet..wah, uncle so happy..this one..go race no participate..volunteers so like uncle..gives uncle free pocari drinks and bananas..as though..uncle was there..what a race to end 2012..

yap..a very wet, slippery terrain..totally different from what uncle recee two days ago..and..dangerous at some parts..like what wonderfulblevic's "the countless up and downslopes were tough"..they are tough, slippery like snake..and some more..treetop visitors..joining the trail..stopping for them..overtaking..and uncle seen (last lap or lap 5 for most)..limping..and others just struggle on..and that's why..uncle picked and joined 2 lovely companions..and talked all way for the 10.2km lap, sundown, stand chart, chengmai.. and enjoyed good companionship..well done MR25..for the free medal..pocari drinks...banana..and condoms..and $2 note..

The winner is the champion of last year, I saw him passed finish line in ~11hrs with 10 loops completed.

any updates on the leaders?

My Garmin clocked 53km, 10.3k for each loop

the mr25 ultra marathon 2012 route is about 10.2km/10.3km, due to the elevation of some parts of the route..it would appear to be longer..and so if some feel like 11km..then..the leg energy sapping experience..of upslope and downslope..feels like taken longer distance run..

Stuart Mclay..2011 champion..is also 2012 champion this pic was taken in 2011 http://cdn.runsociety.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/MR3.jpg

and for those who endured..most finish 5 laps (enough to get finisher tee, medal)..and those who persevered..to attempt their last lap till 7pm..the last 1.5hr..was in rain..and congrats..to all..and thanks..ryuxis..for capturing the moments of the last race of 2012..

actually..the MR25 ultramarathon route(s)..is close to nature..serenity..yap monkeys..squirrels..butterflies..and of course, some previous editions one..passby..uncle's favourite MR WWII and water "ghosts"..

ranchu19..ex 2009 MR25 ultramarathoner..glad to meet you..sgRunner member since..wah..2006..like your panda avatar..like uncle's one of 3 animals..of course, uncle "captured" pet panda at lower pierce reservoir recently..drifted from mandai natural reservoir..landed at woodcutters trail..blur blur thinking uncle is "daddy papa panda"..uncle, is "panda" opportunist bounty hunter..

yes..all MR25 ultramarathoners..first mission..complete 5 laps..get finisher tee as recognition..and secondary..most are with friends or even strangers who are doing the same feat..of course, MR25 members are more of MR-animal bonding..get-together..end of the year..celebration..party..and can see..them together..only such an event.."MR25 Ultra Marathon"..

everybody can do this..most in fact..uncle timed to drop by to "visit" every year..4:30pm-6:00pm..have chatted with many First Ultramarathoners..and imagine all runners start from 7am+..calculator please..9hr-10hr..also can do..5laps..of course, uncle, recommends..better to be in the company of good companions or friends of endurance type..otherwise, like uncle..hunt "panda" or "wild boar" lost at MR..motivation fun trail run..and having great recovery from all other road marathons races..of the year..

so..can join MR25 first, then take ultramarathon 2013 free? since members of MR25 run free.. yes..take the first 5km trail and qualify within 25min..and must be member by feb..since membership starts year 2013..otherwise, if no take 5km trail run..then pay..like those public $40 (inflation year after year)..or like uncle, DIY free..anytime also can do this route..day as well as night..

so..those who prepare to do 5km trails and be MR25 member..route always conducted along the "haunted" ghost zone..and not even MR25 members knowing some more..after all these years...spooky tales of MR..some got say at Woodcutters Trail forum..uncle reveals..bye bye..have a great new year 2013..

cool..uncle's favourite..Sumiko Tan..8 laps, 10:18.. about 2 hours more..wonder why never go 9 laps and even 10 laps..like last time..the champ

and for those who took part in 2007..wah 5-year ago.. sgRunners..similarly..eagerly.. waiting for results..like today..MR25 ULTRA MARATHON ON 30 DEC 2007 (10.55km per lap) .. http://www.sgrunners...ic=4963&st=1155

got members.. prata, moderator bee (Super Extreme Runner)..moderator BrokenRunner (Super Extreme Runner)..admin thelonelyrunner (SGRunners Servant)..both ultraman and white knight announced the results..just like gtlife64 in 2013..thank you..for the memories..for all sgRunners past and present..in this MR25 Ultramarathon..uncle salutes you all

and moderator bee..always sounded stressed..and prata..like kena whip..poor thing..five-year ago..hope you recovered.

    • Yes, almost a break coming 2 months, Pre-SEA Games qualifying races officiating , ultra distances running and practices are really very long hours...and you know uncle is back when you start hearing uncle time to "howlian" some personal accomplishes... Team Performance... 10KM Team Relay vs Global Teams. Congratulations, Team sgRunners have maintained Top 10 out of 24 Teams who participated in the Relay 10KM Global Challenge.  We are Top in Asia and we are in sub4 hour. Well done and thank you. 👍
    • According to uncle-aka-"future-trend reader and fortune-reading teller"... Career and Wealth are stable, especially love in general, except special attention to be paid to health issues... OSIM...you mean this one... buying for SOH gf's mother on Mother's Day...thanks to mutual understanding due to crisis in March... and for SOH's mother on Mother's Day...enjoy a lot of tenderness and love.. of course, SOH needs one also for his active career lifestyle...as UA World Ambassador and get paid handsomely...  start from monthly installment SGD 99.. quite unlike his usual style...aiya...still got High Court pending case...WIN big means  1) Millions in Loss Income compensation for having to forfeit having to go previous SEA Games even if SOH has qualified, because of Ashley Liew's Court Case. Remember in previous post..credibility of a National Sports Association who supported Ashley... XXX - corrected... National Sports Authority who supported Ashley in the first place, "thoroughly investigated". 2) Ashley Liew appeal against Expert Witness (The Truth) and Expert Witness (Compensation for SOH's Loss of Income) and what if Ashley Liew LOST in both appeals. Kena pay big big, even a layman in non-Law also know, "Pay the Price for not keeping your mouth shut when you lose, tsk tsk tsk". 3) Expect "National Sports Authority" to issue a Press Statement... S****  SOH 4) SOH vs "National Sports Authority" next saga...why you reject my application to go to SEA Games ah? Mere speculations on the future outcome...eat 🍿....zzzz and dream on 🍿...because the TRUTH hurts.
    • uncle can, and was thinking about forming a team as Team Captain, but, uncle thinks there is none here...😲 in March April  Just completed a virtual full marathon distance... going for next one this weekend... shall be starting Virtual FM from May 8-30... BTW, this Virtual Race is FOC to sign-up, and can win prizes with lucky draw.. https://www.sunshinecoastmarathon.com.au/atlas-events-virtual-series
    • the distance looks quite scary... 1680km for the minimum Bronze standard.. If we can get 10 members, each member have to run 168km in a month meaning around 42km per week.... not impossible.. just that need to find at leas 10 members who will commit to a 42km per week running schedule....
    • I noticed even his recent facebook post on the OSIM chair that he had seemed to be quite unlike his usual style...
