Transferring/Selling/Request of Race Slots of Any Event Discussion

Recommended Posts

tigger leg pain...want to run cannot...want to sell the slot also cannot....want to donate also cannot......

should tigger do the 7hr walk? Or go finishing line to collect the finisher medal/tee?

I have similiar dilemma as you. But mine is traumatic toe fracture :(

Thinking whether to take camera, walk and snap shots and do some filming. Maybe can slow jog the last 50m....

This is a hot topic :argue: haha.

I still see people post sell/give of race slot at Recent Status Updates.

Mod, never do work, having happy hour :drinks: haha

So can post there or not? If can post there, i post mine too :spiteful:

ya thank william_min, we mods were not doing our work and were happily having happy hour because we were working very very hard at our day jobs. that's why we need hardworking and sharp-eyed members like you who can spot such posts to alert us.

thanks for highlighting, william_min. we mods will put our heads together to plug this loophole.

hahaha.....

Ever since my retirement from the running arena, I read with interest the recent post by this person whose nick is “wwwlimlim”. First of all, I would like to compliment him/her.

As a senior, I am impressed by his/her ability to read into the fine details of the forum rules. I would say you must have some legal training as your background. You have done your research well and what you wrote bear “facts” and you managed to tap into the “loop” holes with adequate justifications.

Before passing any judgement on me, I wished to state that I am writing this based on my own observation and not under any influence by any person.

What “wwwlimlim” commented was fair and honest. He was not wrong to state that the forum rules are not clear which I have to agree.

Pertaining to the forum rules on the sales, transfer and request of race slot, nothing concrete was stated and to my knowledge it was an implied precedent to presume that everyone will comply with the rules by word of mouth etc.

Since the inception of the forum, I have seen it grown from a mere headcount of 30-50 to the present of over few thousands. With this growth, the administrative of the forum need to evolve from the old school of thoughts to merge in with the present time.

This is just my 2 cents worth :)

An expression of praise, admiration, or congratulation.

A formal act of civility, courtesy, or respect.

Here, i also want to put my commen on transfer/give/sell/buy of race slot. What wwwlimlim said

Safety is big, but everything also not safe one, then how, many people also die while running,

then how, everyday sleep? Best is all the head sit down discuss, drink beer :drinks: eat :icecream:

I've been following this thread on-and-off. My perception has been that SGRunners is being caught in between two parties it's trying to serve -- the running community and the run-event organisers.

On one hand, being runners, the mods surely understand that we need to register much early for a race, most of the time way before the route is confirmed, not to mention whether our personal schedule and/or physical conditions will eventually allow us to run on that day.

On the other hand, organisers generally do not allow transferring of registration. I don't want to debate on the reasons for such a rule. But I doubt safety is one of them. Because when something happens to you while you're running, who's going to log on to the computer to see whose name is registered under your bib number?

But rules are rules. Putting myself in the forum managers' shoes, I've assumed that they just have to voice their objections to postings that offer transfer of slots. But I also noticed that those postings were not actually deleted. So in a way, the mods have been keeping both parties at peace. We could've lived in the gray area happily...

Unfortunately many of us are not used to living in "gray areas". We need everything to be in black-and-white. And now we got our wish fulfilled.

Two years ago, I wasted my slot because I fell sick at very near to the race day. Today, I wondered if someone else could've benefited from that wasted slot. But now, I've one less avenue to offer that benefit if (or should I say "when") similar situation arises again.

I think it's ok to sell the slot to someone else or else it'll be wasted .. better yet it can benefit another runner who wans to run and has trained for it ..

It is the responsibility of the runner who bought the slot to ensure his own safety during the race. In the worst case, if he were to collapse, the organisers' backsides are covered when they discover that he has taken another person's registration. So, it's a totally private affair on selling the slot between 2 parties.. What right does the forum moderators here have to control a private matter between two willing parties?

And the best part is the decision has already been made to delete such sitations and then create a discussion thread here to do what?

In addition, I didn't know the tickets would be sold out so soon in abt 3 wks!! This my first time wanting to join this race.. And to think they even had 3 prices categories..... when in actual fact all the tix are sold in the early bird catergory !!

we do not have the rights to stop anyone from doing it... but in this forum, we have the rights not to allow it. like i have said, you can find other avenues to sell or get it, but not in this forum.

and this is a thread for those who wants to talk about it like yourself and not disturb in any other threads of this forum. thanks!

I dun think u understand wat i mean by rights.. not as a moderator.. u're simply using power... I don't think anyone's amused by ur reply, particulary me.

U shud jus delete this thread .. no one's going to discuss this anymore as u well know.

By the way, jus curious, who or what made u decide to stop the selling/transferring tix thing?

Precisely, that's what i guessed.

So just curious, who/ what made u decide to stop all these transferring/selling thing?

U're using ur power to do what u wan, not rights.

U dun have rights to do this.

By doing this, u've discouraged a potential runner from taking part in the event.. wat have u gained ?

please read any of the race rules before registration. to prevent any complication, sgrunners.com do not want to be a medium for being liable or involved for any of the unfortunate incidents happened. and we do not support this idea as this is for the benefit of the runners.

as for the thread, i do have to close it because of you. thanks for your understanding.

i may discourage potential runners, but it is for everyone's benefit. i believe there are other positive and healthier ways that can encourage others to take part in events.

sgrunners is not going to become a medium ... for ur info, no one is this forum ever encouraged any selling.. by this i mean there was no thread created for ppl who wanna buy/ sell tix.

I jus wanna reinforce the idea that it is the runner's personal responsibiliy to ensure his own safety when taking part in the race, it's not about whose identity is on the ticket.

Lastly, if u're going to close this thread, it's not becos of me.. pls don't put the blame on me.. i'm jus one of those who is putting his discussion ideas on this discussion thread.. I would like to think it's u who can't account reasonably ur decision to create this situation.

HaHaHa, not "gray areas". You did not get the full picture. This topic was moved from SC

Marathon topics. Members got their post deleted, and the reason mods give is they are

not allow to post transfer/sell/buy race slot. wwwlimlim came to know about it, then

ask if no such rule why delete people post, if have then must let us know what? What

"gray area" you talking mah

Also you mention "But I also noticed that those postings were not actually deleted.

So in a way, the mods have been keeping both parties at peace". . Since you mention

that, i also give you my view lor. I also noticed that some sell/buy of race slot was

deleted, some was not. The reasons i can think of is double standard lor. :notfair::notfair:

What to do, amry also like that one, say cannot do this, do that, but the officers

themselve also do. :diablo: . Or some mods feel that is ok, then leave the post there

lor, some mods feel cannot, then delete it lor. They do not have the same frequency.

Maybe also because of these reasons, wwwlimlim fire his gun, haha

Will he get to go? https://themonitor.sg/2021/06/14/singapore-athletics-nominates-soh-rui-yong-for-2021-sea-games-will-he-get-to-go/ Reality check: However, whether he gets the nod to travel and represent Singapore would still be reliant on the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC ) selectors, and if the SEA Games takes place at all. Said Soh, “I started training for the 1500m this year for the first time in eight years because we haven’t been able to travel for marathons since last year, and we haven’t had any marathons held locally.
    • 1. Visit Lady Ice in London and run the London Marathon there. 2. Hold on to it and try to get a slot for a physical run somewhere that Aegean Airlines would fly to before May next year. Is there a Aegean Airline office here in Singapore to redeem your free ticket?
    • 1. I think it would look good on SNOC if they decide to show graciousness and put the past behind them - SRY already did anyway, and made amends with the new SA committee. There isn't any negative news surrounding SRY for the past 2 years too, as he seems like he stopped competitive running for a while. I don't see any reason not to accept the nomination based on merit. That said, I am slightly disappointed that he is not going for a marathon anymore. He was sort of a motivational figure to me and inspire to go for more marathons when he was the SEA games champions in 2015 and 2017. 2. I believe the eventual consensus would be to agree to let Vietnam postpone the game to next year, when the Covid situation should be more or less stabilized already after most of us are vaccinated. Like the Olympics or Euro cup, not likely that these sports events get cancelled. But I am a little amused that Singapore actually step forward to volunteer to host the game if Vietnam is unable to, always the "ostentatious" image that our government wants to portray to our neighbours...
