The Green Corridor Run is the first running race to be held on Singapore’s most unique course. The 10.5km course, starting at the historic Tanjong Pagar Rail Station winds its way along the ‘Green Corridor’, finishing at the old Bukit Timah Rail Station.

Course Overview

The Green Corridor Run is 10.5km in distance and follows the course of the old rail line, starting at the historic Tanjong Pagar Rail Station (30 Keppel Rd). From here the course runs parallel to the AYE before heading North via Buona Vista, passing near Holland Village and through the lush Clementi Woodlands, before finishing at the old Bukit Timah Rail Station. The surface of the course is a combination of trail, grass, gravel, clay and the route is very scenic due to the forest on either side of the course.

Entry Fee

Early Bird (Before 30 Nov 2012): $48
Normal (After 1 Dec 2012): $55

Very rare to have a race during the first month of the year. Route very refreshing. But why 10.5k instead of 10k? Disrupt those 10k PB attempts. 6 waves with first one at 8 am. Wouldn't the last one be 8.30 am? Early bird $48 still expensive. No mention of finisher's medal. My verdict - skip. Next please. Think should be Zoo Run in early part of year.

Agreed. Too expensive for a 10.5 km race.
Organiser also not well-established (unlike Hivelocity, or PinkApple) so how can charge so high? Later become like Marina 21K organiser - $50+ for half-marathon with crappy goodie bag.

The worst part of it all, run 10.5 km and if go by own transport, how do we get back to starting point 10.5km away? Take public transport back? What about baggage deposit consideration? :thumbsd:

However I dun mind paying $48 if this race turn out to be a half-marathon instead 10.5km x 2 =21km; from Tanjong Pagar to Old Bukit Timah and then loop back to Tanjong Pagar again.

Aiya! Should have hired me as consultant in planning committee first :thumbsu:

Among the many races I ran this year, there was only one where the Start and End point is different - U-Run & Vertical Climb. Start point at floating platform and end point at NTUC Centre in Shenton Way. Shuttle buses brought us back to floating platform. But then, that's only a 5 min ride.

Got one more coming up - SCMS for the full marathon. But logistics-wise, at least they provide transportation for the baggage.

another one coming up... We Run SG 10K..start Esplanade and finish at MBS..and KL race already got complaints on that one..

next time.. mobile transportation for baggage..great idea..consultant bro NoobieRunner.. uncle had one 2011 sundown ultramarathon..marina barrage (start)..deposit bag, up lorry.. and at 50km mark, bedok reservoir (temporary bag deposit/collection point)..down lorry..collect bag for bath..change of clothing..and deposit bag... up lorry..back to marina barrage (end)..down lorry..final collection.. at first uncle saw lorry..like funeral one with colourful bags (very floral), some even got balloons..luckily organiser never ask participants to put "pictures" on bag for easy identification..you know..like CSI type..body bags with tags.. luckily, last year bedok reservoir was peaceful.. unlike this year..destination to bedok reservoir is like "western paradise Nirvana Resort"..with so many suicides there..

bro teckhooi, @@ thanks for clarification.. got finisher medal.. http://www.greencorr...run.com.sg/faq/

runner's entitlement:
*A chest bib and timing tag
*A Green Corridor Run Visor (perfect to use for sun protection when running in Singapore).
*Green Corridor Run finishers medal.
*Sports drink and water during the race and fruit after the race.
*Assorted goodies, free passes and discounts from sponsors
*Baggage Valet Pass

ah.. got transport arrangement...trucks allocated..cool..uncle's up/down lorry..by 9:00am..wah..sharp
"Colour coded clothing bags will be available at the bag concierge desk at the start area. Record your chest bib number on the bag using the marker provided and then leave the bag with the truck for transport to Bukit Timah. The last baggage trucks will leave at 9:00am sharp. No more bags will be taken after this time as they cannot be transported to the finish for your arrival.".."Clothing bags left anywhere but with the trucks at the allocated locations will NOT be transported to Bukit Timah Rail Station."..meaning..better check..at the allocated locations..

ah.. drinks:
"If you are worried about finding a drink, bring your own water bottle (no glass please). We recommend that people starting in the back-of-the-pack group carry their own drink bottle which can be filled at each drink station along the course.".."There will be three drink stations along the course dispensing water. Sports Drink Mix will be available at the second drink station.".."Both Water and Sports drink will be available at the finish line reception area.".. ah so..entry fee is for sports drink..fruit after the race..

3.5-Jln Kilang Barat (water)
5.0-Jln Hang Jebat (sports drink mix).. this station better have drink bottle to top up..remember..if those got own bottles..
7.5-Nth Buona Vista Rd/Commonwealth Ave (water)
10.5 End point - Both Water and Sports drink will be available at the finish line reception area...and fruit!..got lychee/durian or not?

ah..donation:
when register..will ask how much for one-time donation..and issue receipt for tax-exemption..

and hot ah.. uncle "tested" the green corridor run..in reverse order of route..
Start: Bukit Timah Rd/Rifle Range Rd
01-N/A
02-Holland Road (close to cold storage jelita)
03-Tan Boon Chong Ave (close to Ghim Moh ex-RJC)
04-Tanglin Halt Rd
05-Commonwealth Dr
06-Jln Hang Jebat
07-Bukit Merah Lane 3
08-Jln Kilang Timor
09-Henderson Rd overpass
10-Kampong Bahru Rd overpass
10.5-Tanjong Pagar Railway Stn

got rain..got meet..lovely angmo girl running..fit angmo woman pilate on ground..owners with dogs meeting/chatting..bare body runner preparing for StandChart marathon..film making of halloween special - "love and death at KTM railway" ..and at alexandra hospital nearby met uncle runner..warned, "watch out for cobra..hide inside grass..black shiny ones..come out suddenly"..

overall..if first-timer..trail is narrow and terrain flat..scenary is refreshing, both sides of trail got natural vegetation, morning glory flowers got many..but, after a while..same same scene, but with buildings, bus terminals, and yawn..sian, boring..and how if got rain with thunder and lightning..no way out..this is SLA (Singapore Land Authority) area..mostly fenced up in the past..if got overpass (means bridge with road on top)..can take shelter..otherwise..continue..and trail shall be muddy very fast.. waterlogging in mud at henderson to kampong bahru is expected to be more serious..and seriously..washing point at end point..must have..got or not?..safe to DIY?.. must be fit to do the distance..and remember..how to enter..must know how to get out..knowledge of exit/entrance points are important..like..in bukit merah exit ghim moh..or in alexandra exit biopolis (bouna vista)..or in portsdown exit henderson..or exit commonweath mrt.. wah..uncle has no problem..

if not for the rain.. uncle should have made DIY round-trip 10.5 x 2 = 21km.. ready for Green Corridor Half Marathon Run in 2014?

Wanna consult the veteran runners here who has taken part in more races than me

The surface of the course is described as ' a combination of trail, grass, gravel, clay.' I do not run extensively on trial and wondered if this will be too tough for a newbie trail runner like myself. But I did do 4K round Bedok reservoir during the North East Tampines run. That one is grave track and it was ok. I thought running on grass and gravel is less siong on the legs?? Or is gradient the bigger issue here??

Any advise pls?? Maybe I should just start hitting MR if I'm thinking of signing up. Apart from the novelty factor, I agree with the general sentiment that this is not a cheap race.

So it is safe to DIY if the various entries/exit are known other than the presence of snake/cobra or waterlogged at certain stretches ( referring to Dec~Jan periods only or thru'out the year) or are there stretches of soft/muddy ground.
Is the passage of the entire route clear to run with no overgrowth branches, grass etc. as of now ? Any wild dogs along the way? Is it really the same scenery after a while? I thought it should be quite refreshing.
Thinking of DIY 1 day before the race if the weather 2~3 days before is dry.

wah.. all suddenly want to DIY..come on..this event is supposed to support Green Corridor is mean for running, not road or condo development..must be part of that 10,000..like that uncle kena blamed..why sgRunners all so DIY type..or "cheapskate"..

so many questions.. take one by one..

"The surface of the course is described as ' a combination of trail, grass, gravel, clay.'".. depends on the location of the Green Corridor.. geographically..bukit timah side is on higher ground..and so trail is grass, gravel, harder clay..where else near to the lower delta like bukit merah, hendersen, down to kampond bahru..lower ground..more clay..softer and grass brown brown due to too much flooding..so compare Green Corridor to MacRitchie.. is like SLA vs NParks.. SLA is state land manager..grass never cut..so if cut..never need to collect..and if trees fall..no one report..not important..and no toilet..unlike NParks..MacRitchie and Bedok Reservior..some more got water fountains.. here at Green Corridor..thirsty..if morning..drink dew on grass..or longkang water..natural color..light brown..want to pang sai..thick vegetation along the trail..

Cobras..and wild dogs..all depends on food..if uncle says.. got see chickens running with uncle also..so, explains why some got encounter cobra..under grass..and perhaps..from uncle's experience on real encounter with cobra at sungie buloh..normally if grass and leaves are brownish and dark colored and left there thick thick..match cobra color some more..black and shiny..how to see?..unless when it moves.. the sound always is like wind blowing..and since, SLA never maintains, grass or trees fall not interested..never remove type..why, preserve natural environment..and if wild dogs come how..read on..learn how to "siam"..

uncle's entry and exit.. actually the Green Corridor is a short-cut to many places..like bukit timah to holland village..every driver will say..so easy..sixth ave..then holland road..wha..one big round.. to uncle that's is 10-min run.. so fast.. yap..didn't you see uncle's 2nd km CP..Holland Road (close to cold storage jelita)..and so imagine if the Green Corridor is converted to a road..drivers will be so happy..like uncle.. go to PortsDown to see that angmo houses..so peaceful..5th km CP-Commonwealth Dr.. if for drivers..wha..borna vista..exit..CTE..exit..PortsDown.. uphill.. so, just this 10.5 km Green Corridor.. uncle can go to NUS also can..goes tanjong pagar..goes cold storage jelita..goes alexandra drop by ikea..so how come nobody can access to Green Corridor.. because, this is fenced up area by SLA after the KTM handoever..and thick undergrowth prevented public from accessing..so need to know uncle's lobang entries and exits..otherwise, if wild dogs see far far.. better know how to "exit".. example.. Alexandra Hospital area trail..facing wild dogs from bukit timah side.. how to run.. oh..bukit merah lane 3..there is a unfenced area.. 600m.. away.. run ah.. meanwhile the dogs are only 100m away..understand that danger.. so for sis runners.. rain and thunderstorm.. at Bukit Merah Bus Terminal area trail..take cover..exit..don't know..see underpass..Bridge of Henderson Road on top..800m away..head towards tanjong pagar side..chong ah.. underpass got dark shadows of people..so dark how to see friendly or unfriendly..sure or not..but don't worry..see Bridge..just climb up slope like babycrawl..wah, got people..got vehicles..civilisation at last..safe and sound.

so, DIY Green Corridor..even bikers don't know how to enter..see tracks..skinny tire types..mean recreational..not mountain bikers like those at kent ridge..BTimah..Gangsa..Chestnut..so trail is still "undiscovered"..not many people know.. and likely when 10,000 people start to know.. SLA must "service" trail to upgrade gravel type "serviced path"..since the muddy grass one sure cannot take that pounding of the expected 10,000 runners.. surely..after the race.. grass become brown..mud become muddier..and during the wet monsoon months, which started already till feb/mar 2012.. oh.. talking about "testing" tiong bahru salomon urban trail run earlier this year..uncle's encounter on the henderson part of Green Corridor.. got to run through ponds of tadpoles..so shoik..like baby pool..

bro joosiang, "Thinking of DIY 1 day before the race if the weather 2~3 days before is dry".. good idea.. safer and drier.. from bukit timah side.. not from the tanjong pagar side.. besides the tanjong pagar stn got SLA security.. so no need to start from there.. and after Green Corridor experience.. later the "entry"/"exit"..you discover.. can always continue another day.. or bring gf along..surely..good place for 2-person world.. but, remember..cobra story and uncle's wild tales..make the journey more spicy and interesting..otherwise.. like what uncle said to newbie..when refreshing trip turning out to be very sian..better do something interesting..why not catch spiders along the way..instead of just running..have a great weekend..uncle is on Let's take a walk 2012-100km route recee..bye bye
