Those lucky few who got the Nike+ Sports Band, give your comments!

Recommended Posts

Hi, i got the sportsband as well and have the same problem as BR. Can you help to elaborate in detail what you meant by "BR you need to click cancel on the detecting an internet connection part and log in from the information page. this step helps the program to recognize the user on the first time you download information onto NikePlus.com."

I do not know what you mean by "information page". Thanks

>>Oops ! i see it now. For anyone who is as confused(blur) as i am. Just press cancel and you will understand.

I brought my sportband out for more runs. The sticker on the sensor which shows a swoosh and a plus sign is out of place. I got to stick it back myself.

Then I came home and plug the link to the USB port. Now this part, I need a lot of patience. It says "Trying to connect" for a long time. Then a message "No internet connection was found or no server connection was possible". I have my internet connection all in place. I guess it is not problem from my side. This happened a few times and I almost wanted to pull my hair off already!

Show a few ladies in the gym my new toy. they were very thrilled. but when i told them there is a sensor, one went, "har? got sensor? need sensor? anything to do with a senor i am not interested la!" alamak! what is the logic here ar?

i feel like asking her how does she expect the thing to work if there isn't a sensor.

just want to add, the display is not contrasting enough.

brokie, what's yr rating for the sportsband (out of a score of 10)???

8. -2 for the display and website slowness.

reasonable?

isn't a crappy display (no backlight) & slow-poke website a deal-breaker for u? since its not really a very sophisticated device, such basic functionality should be better done up rite?

this is really my personal view okay.

for $100, i think this gadget is a steal. i do not need see how far i have run or how fast i am running all the time. so i can live with the no-backlight issue. i have a casio watch which has a damn big display and backlight which i wear at the same time but on different hand. the gadget can record my run but my casio can't.

if i am paying a few hundreds like for a polar, then it is a different story.

anyway, i would like to take this opportunity to thank sacha for the talk and picking me as one of the winners and philip for organising this talk.

Hi all,

Its me again. I guess i dun get back as fast as you guys as i'm on nikeplus.com more often hahah.

Kidding, but on a serious note. BR you need to click cancel on the detecting an internet connection part and log in from the information page. this step helps the program to recognise the user on the first time you download information onto NikePlus.com.

Sebsequent connections will then be seamless as the first time the program doesn't know which registered user it is supposed to go to.

I know everyone is gingerly stepping around the issue of NikePlus enabled shoes, so let me clear the air. Nike recommends the use of NikePlus enabled shoes to all athletes, that said, not all athletes have the same kind of foottype that are suitable for Nike shoes.

As mentioned by other members, there are several alternatives to the NikePlus shoes.

I would recommend that all athletes begin any regime by first having a foot analysis, then finding the most comfortable shoes for your foot type.

NikePlus is an experience that allows runners to now run in a community and take part in events like charity runs anywhere in the world. The NikePlus Sportsband and the ipod are just tools that assist the athlete in joining the NikePlus community.

For precision and indepth run analysis, there are definitely more techi stuff out there. For a new running experience, there's NikePlus.

Cheers,

Sacha.

Sigh, my Nike+ display lost middle row and last row of display, so "1 4 : 0 0" looks like "i 2 ' o o"

I went to the Nike shop to exchange the set since its only 5 days old, got a replacement and I discover this brand new one, just after I plug in and charge it, also got defective display on the left bottom corner (Week looks like Veek), argh!#%^&*, looks like another trip to the shop.

James, I'm so sorry to hear that you got not one but two bad bands.

Anyway, Raven and I, perhaps cfred as well, are facing problems uploading our runs to the NIKE+ website. Unfortunately, I even lost my friday night's 30km run! so sad.... heartache leh.

I visited the forum and a NIKE person said he would look into this. In that thread, all 5 of us are in Singapore and we are facing the same problem.

Got mine swapped. I bought and received an additional Nike+ foot pod sensor (through AppleStore online), so tonight I hope to try it out and re-calibrate my run.

I never face the upload problem.

I had problem with creating Coach/Training program, but I saw on the Nike+ forum that can bypass by switching country profile to U.S., and then create the training program, then switch back to Singapore profile, viola! It works!

I have emailed customer support regarding our problems and the result:

Q.Hi,

i have followed the included instructions, downloaded Nike+ Utility

Setup.exe, installed it and then plugged in the usb component. There

is a pop up claiming that its trying to connect to the server and

keeps trying to connect only to fail connection after a while. A few

of my friends in Singapore also face the same problem and have problem

uploading their running information. Can you look into this right

away.

Nike being a top end brand shouldn't have such hiccups. Please do not

disappoint me. Thank you.

A.Thank you for writing about SportBand. It gives me a chance to work with you.

I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble. Most Consumers normally have no issues.

This situation may be caused by your Internet service provider. If you are using Internet Explorer, I suggest that you use an alternate browser called Firefox. I will give you some quick and easy instructions that should solve your problem.

- Go to www.mozilla.com.

- Perform the free download of Firefox.

- Click Run software, when asked.

- Choose the standard format.

- Do not add any programs, bookmarks, etc.

- Save Firefox as your Defaut browser.

When logging onto nikeplus.com and al Nike web sites, you will need Flash Player. If you don't have Flash, you will be asked to download this as well.

Firefox should erase the Trying To Connect message and connect you to nikeplus.com.

If it does not, I recommend that you exchange your SportBand for a new one. Here are the instructions to do so.

The first thing to do is return the product to the original retailer and ask for an exchange.

If the retailer cannot help you, here is contact information for Nike Singapore.

First exchange I didn't expect it to be spoilt. So I didn't check. Second one the Nike shop supervisor check and make sure before giving it to me.

Hi all,

I know how technology can be frustrating at times when we can't get it to work like we want it to and there doesn't seem to be anyone out there who can help.

We have been collecting feedback and information on this connection issue and will keep trying to find out what is causing the problem.

In the mean time, here is what i will be doing tomorrow on Vesak Day 18th May 2008.

I will be heading down to Nike Vivo City (Singapore) from 12pm to 2pm with my laptop and Nikeplus Sportsband and will entertain anyone who turns up with problems and needs some help. Do pass this message along.

P.S: mine is still working and uploading runs, i hope it does that tomorrow :P

Hi just checking, is the sensor very small. Because I just bought a new pair of running shoes so I don't wish to change it yet. But I like to buy e sportsband too. From what I see from the thread, it is meant for nike plus shoes. If say I stick it directly on the insole will it hurt when I run? I mean I dunno how it looks like so I like to check. Thanks for any positive answers! Cheers!

Check out Nikeplus.com for more details.

But in a nutshell, NikePlus sensor fits into a pocket in the left nikeplus enabled shoes. it will be very uncomfortable to put under any other insole cos it will not be flush to the sole of the foot.

Alternative is to get a sensor clip from Apple store or running lab, this allows you to use the nikeplus system but limits the accuracy you can achieve.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Sacha
