i-Run @ Singapore River Promenade

Recommended Posts

Another run to add to the collection of run along the Marina Promenade, organised by the HPB:

I-Run at Singapore River Promenade

"Put on your running shoes and join us for i-Run, a new initiative by HPB and SSC to help you set and meet your short-, mid- and long term fitness goals through running.

Designed for working adults, i-Run provides regular sessions to improve participant's physical fitness as well as running clinics to impart relevant knowledge on running techniques and prevention of running injuries.

Encourage your colleagues and employees to work towards incorporating running and physical activity as an integral part of a healthy lifestyle.

Make a date to join us on every Tuesday and Thursday!

Venue: Singapore River Promenade

Start Time: 6:30 PM

End Time: 7:30 PM"

I understand this run got free drinks. Distance is 3, 5 & 7km to cater to all different group of runners. Unfortunately now got no more free t-shirt but got nice handsome boi boi leading the warm up/cool down and run Baggage deposit available. Now also got 1 whole contingent of sgrunners to lead the run.

Understand they also have plan to include heart rate measurement before and after the run.

Wahsieh, the sgrunners has taken over the conduct of this run. Brokie, DO, Dream, AC, Ayin were the lead runners and jaga and Cookiee was the guy leading the warm up and cool down.

Many thanks to Cookiee for the educational warm up and cool down stretches. I am sure the many young ladies present are now swooning over the handsome young man who has taken over from the previous week's guy.

Tekko,

good that you and a few other SgRunners enjoyed the I-Run yesterday.

just some clarifications....the I-Run is a Health Promotion Board initiative, supported by the Singapore Sports Council. It is not a SgRunners initiative, and the few of us are actually leading the runs on behalf of the organizer of the run called Exer-Fit, who runs a series of fitness gyms.

We have just taken over the run leading, and barely into our first month of operations. We have seen good responses from the growing number of runners showing up. I actually planned to invite all SgRunners around the vicinity to join us for some good fun I-Runs when we have stabilized the crowd.

Stay Tuned.

Dream

Tekko,

Surprised to see you yesterday! I called out to you when you first went under the bridge toward the Esplanade, but you didn't hear me.

I have the running routes here for 3km and 5km.

The 7km route is similar to 5km, but u-turn at farther up along Singapore River.

Hi Tekko... Thanks for dropping by to support the I Run, yr sweet M really enjoyed the Stretching session!! ^_^

As Dream explained, the I-Run is a Health Promotion Board initiative and we just doing our part to share our Passion with City folks there. Hope more people can keep fit n healthy by taking up Running!

The present 3,5 and 7km routes are rather complicated with sharp turns, Hopefully the construction along the Esplanade Promenade can be completed soon, this route will be better!

Do come join us there, we will try our best to make every I-Run a enjoyable social experience!!! :)

    • Was looking forward to the actual run as I've never participated in this event before. Completed the 21km virtual run yesterday. Initially thought was only given 2 weeks to upload result which would be unfairly difficult given the short notice if one has not been running regularly. Fortunately, I've been running 21km every weekend since March. First time did 2x 21km within 4 days. Thankfully my Plantar Fasciitis is still holding up.
    • OhMyGod, 50 pushups, well done ūüĎć ¬† Saw Lexus Tan facebook, he own self say know qi gong,¬†can apply.¬† ¬† I scare scare, should I call?¬†
    • Slightly OT, but from the Straits Times article quoted by Lady Ice: A time of 2:46:57 is fast of course. Impossibly fast for a slow runner like me, but whenever I look at race results from marathons elsewhere in the world, and compare it to the times of our best runners of countries in Southeast Asia, even if one were to exclude the times of African runners from the equation, our runners here in SE Asia appear to be outclassed. I've always wondered why???¬†ūü§Ē Even in Japanese marathons, the Japanese winner's times are usually at 2:30++ on average. Are we at some disadvantage because we live in a hot climate, compared to those in temperate countries? When I mentioned to a runner from Victoria (AUS) that I usually run in temps of¬†27-33C, his jaw dropped...
    • SCSM T shirts are also usually sold at the pre-race expo, not just in SCSM but also other IAAF certified¬†marathons in other parts of the world. The actual finisher shirt handed to you at the finish line¬†is of course¬†different though. I have nothing against those who want to buy a souvenir¬†or presents for family and friends back home, but I strongly believe¬†finisher shirts should be earned. Medals are usually just made of cheap metal or plastic, but to a runner, that "token" represents all the blood sweat and tears¬†¬†you put into finishing the race. I don't remember where I read this, but there was this story about a guy whose wife completed her first marathon in Chicago. He told his friend: "I just bought her an expensive designer bag. That finisher certificate she¬†got from completing the marathon probably cost the organizers a few cents to print.¬†If she had to choose between the two¬†of which to keep though, I know it would be that finisher's certificate & medal on our wall!"¬†ūü•ī
    • I‚Äôm not a local, so I didn‚Äôt know the story about that pastry chef, but the link to the Straits Times article was an amusing read. It said he picked up running in 2011, and only runs 1 km at each time (!?!?!?) on weekends, yet he managed to cover ¬†19kms in an actual race before giving up. I suspect though he probably walked most of that. If he could cover that distance running without training though, he must be either gifted, or very fit from another sport or life activity. Imagine what he would actually be capable of if he just took the time to train properly!
