Wah! RunningGuild is trying to kill me sia.... but then again, 5 km a day for 42 days sounds quite do-able sia... maybe i will join  😆

Maybe use this as a warm-up for Monster Ultra 200 on 19-21 Feb 2021 if held? Compelling reason for you to run again as mentioned by beast. 😛

Anyway, registration is opened till 31 Dec 2359 hrs.

With your mileage, you can probably add in more "cheat days" and stretch out the completion period so that you don't tire out so quickly. All the best!

I CMI lah... my longest distance in a go is 101km.... so monster ultra is way beyond my league.

200km in 24 hours or less... OMG, is that even possible? 😳 I wonder what kind of demi-god can do that? Dean Karnazes?

Over here, one of the best runners I know needed almost 33 hours to finish 200k 😅 and that time was already good enough to put him in 3rd place (the winner finished just a little over 31 hours).

Almost the same here (102kms) 🥳 As much as I enjoy running (or run + walk for ultra), These really long distances aren't my thing either, but that's just me.

They take too much out of you, not just in terms of training, but also recovery time, and they make you uber slow for standard distances (marathon & below) 😖 There's also some medical evidence emerging that they can be harmful to long term cardiovascular health from the prolonged stresses involved.

Anyways, to all those participating- salute!!! 🥳🥳🥳

By the way, as for not doing it in one go... you won't have to run everyday. Even if you run a reasonable 40 kms a week, (10km x 4) you'll meet the quota in 5 weeks. 😊

uncle had been in ultramarathon/IM activities....but limit only to with cut-off time, based more on Marathon run time (speed)...and prefer not on Ultramarathon (endurance)...

supplementary Amino Acids...although they are essentials for healthy reason...not many of us ultra-distance athletes are used to consumption...perhaps uncle is very "sensitive" to all things not naturally made from fresh produces and meat...

mae6504d9e57b19264.jpg

@RaijinFJ, you have raised a valid concern about stress on cardiovascular health from the prolonged stresses involved...

let uncle "lighten" this discussion with this simple sports nutrition fact...

AMino.jpg

uncle used GU before, really don't really like that, maybe Amino Vital! can make uncle more "endured" than GU...

A512adea90c2b9702.jpg

AMM.jpg

and so, if anyone enjoy ultramarathon and stay comfortably for longer periods, you really need well-balanced amino acides including BCAAS...

and if you want to qualify for Marathon Race as AbottWMM, then GU will be good enough...

how about Challenges in Ultramarathon...uncle has said in other forum threads... Challenges vs Qualifying/Virtual Races, which one do you prefer then?

Erm... Is either 200 km over 42 days which equal to 4.8km per day or 200 km 1 shot but must less than 45 hrs. There is no mentioned to do 200 km in 24 hrs.

Overseas runners are welcome for this event but do contact organizer for postage details on entitlements if keen.

Oh, I was just reacting to the honors rankings in the poster.

200km in 1 go
36 to < 45 hrs : Ultra Specialist
30hr to < 36hr : Ultra Master
24hr to < 30hr : Ultraordinaire
< 24 hr : Ultra Invincible
 -------> WOW!!!  😮 😮 😮

…and was wondering if anyone could ever possibly achieve the “Ultra Invincible” honor.

I looked it up though, and someone didIn 2004, Dean Karnazes and some guy named Christopher Bergland completed 238km in 24 hours on treadmills.

Ultra Invincible? Those guys might actually be terminators sent by Skynet for all we know! 😅

Apologies. I realized that you meant to complete 200km in 24 hrs category. Possible but not many. For example this below runner i'm sure he can do so based on his running pace. Respect.

To me, any distance more than 10 km in a go is an uphill task. because need to find the time and the energy to do it. 😅

IMO, unless you are doing more than 42km at a go, doing small distances to achieve 200km in a period is  considered as a 200 km challenge (not an ultramarathon event)... & then again, it is still challenging for me as i that i have never clock 200km running mileage in a month before.🤔

WRT the BCAA packs, it is just a free gift from the organiser  for the participant to try it out lah, there is no need to be so sour/sore about it & it's health benefits lah.

think uncle can qualify to register 200KM Virtual Challenge..

uncle's October [just 10 days]

uncle.jpg

1 run is a marathon distance run...

Challenges vs Qualifying/Virtual Races...

uncle can have both...fun and achievable...

of course, uncle has Qualifying moments in Ultra Marathon Races in runs in the past...

real-race.jpg

Run a total of 300KM / month....yes STRAVA apps Virtual Running Endurance Challenge..

300kmd1da76e233522d8b.jpg

uncle already Join Challenge just for fun!

WRT the BCAA packs, it is just a free gift from the organiser  for the participant to try it out lah, there is no need to be so sour/sore about it & it's health benefits lah.

uncle does not need BCAA packs to sustain endurance or take days to recover from any Challenges

simply eat aunty's or outside cooked food; fruits - apples, oranges and bananas; isotonic drinks (Pocari); importantly proper sleep (at least 8-hour) and rest...and be happy...it is just a Challenge, another day, another week, another month...

as uncle has shared in COVID-19 and its impact on Races forum thread...2021 KM Challenge in 2021 is only 5km per day...

btw, if uncle is to be an ultramarathoner...must show at least beyond "marathon" distance in one session or in one of the challenging sessions...complete or compete or none of the above...

maybe good for Shiok 200 Km Ultra roll of honour

10KM Run Challenges if repeated 10 times or 20 times...maybe, 20 times or 40 times...if 5KM Run Challenges...we have that in SCSM Virtual Club..FOC...earn digital medals...can also be known also as 100KM/200KM Virtual Challenge.

best of all...there is no need BCAA packs as entitlements because do we need them if you are actually not in Ultramarathon running event, that is, there is no need to do any session "beyond" marathon distance..like qualify for the Shiok 200 Km Ultra roll of honour

so, uncle skips this one...since uncle has Joined Challenge for 300KM for Nov [1-month] challenge FOC at Strava App.

That's GREAT to hear that uncle is participating in so many other events, except for this one. And if that is the case, then it may be better that we let those runners who are or may be participating in this event to chitchat here.  :)

thanks bro...

and maybe, uncle has so many events other place, except this one for a reason...BCAA packs..it's health benefits lah..

as you have noticed...

and wish you can take all other races besides this one..

there are many races which are shorter in distances which can be fun and enjoyable...

best wishes to you...and your lovely wife who accompanied you...together with the Ultra "marathoner"s..and Running Guild...Coach Ben..a very unique running community...👍

In running, pace is usually defined as the number of minutes it takes to cover a mile or kilometer. Pacing is often a critical aspect of endurance events. it's funny we don't seem to notice the distances sometimes while running

Walking can provide a lot of the same benefits of running. But running burns nearly double the number of calories as walking. but try walking even just 5k... and you'll find out how far it is!....because you don't spend too much calories as running of the same distance 5K.

challenge of 5K - walk or run? what's your choice? since there is no qualifying to say how fast you must cover 5K...but you can take 5K per day, and yet you can claim

"I participated Virtual 150K in a month".
"I participated Virtual 1800K in a year"

As long as you complete, speed is not important. In other words, pacing is really doesn't matter, which is also not a critical aspect of endurance event...right @RaijinFJ?😁

Hahaha!

It’s just that I remembered many years ago, my friends and I were arguing whose turn it was to go to the nearby convenience store to buy drinks & snacks for everybody. The conversation went something like this:

Runner 1: “You guys do it.”
Runner 2: “I’m tired...”
Me:The sun is up. It’s so hot already! I don’t want to move anymore... ”
Runner 4: *Wearily stares into the distance with a blank look*

Runner1: “What’s with you guys? We all just ran 25kms without a single complaint. Why are you all so lazy now to just walk a few more blocks to the 7-11?!?!  🤣

It was only about 400-500 meters more (800-1km total back & forth) but nobody wanted to go. Since we didn't have breakfast yet though, in the end, our hunger got the better of us, so we all grudgingly forced ourselves to march over there anyway... 😜

    • that is good.... a goal setting right from the start of 2021 and chiong for it...
    • maybe from uncle's perspectives on virtual events (locally and globally)... yes, must agree with @beast, this Virtual Event is very much for those who are newbie runners (who may want to upgrade from brisk walk to run)...21KM in 1 month (very generous)...depends on individuals... given that the race is virtual, again agree with @beast, the organizer must bear the cost (inclusive as participation fee)...if this is covid-19 social distancing measures, participants have the rights to have "items as specified to be delivered"... and if the shipping cost (add-on) is not preferred, it is as good as user will consider if participation is necessary... from uncle's observation, the reason why if the organizer wants you to pick up is "shopping" at their stores...marketing gimmicks...in most virtual races uncle had participated, uncle browse "Store/Shop" online, and if want add-ons, just top-up and find out, what will be the reasonable "shipment cost"...of course, expect FOC lah...again if not satisfy..then no need to "buy" online or even register "online" for the event. Example for JustRunLah!Connect Virtual Race event...$18.88 2 months to complete 18.88KM or 88.88KM (very generous)... the only difference is the participation fee included Shipping..which will expect the organizer to inform participants (from 5 February 2021...expect to deliver and to receive...otherwise email...) because 2021 is still "covid-19 pandemic" like 2020.. better to stay home, stay safe, stay strong, and remain "Virtual Run" in Run (Exercise) program...👌
