Nah not a sad year for runners or anyone..... a time to be grateful for the freedom we had, a time to reflect on what we can do and how we can make our world a better place :) The longer this goes on, the more time our world has time to heal. If we go back too fast, it will be just like when we try to return back to running when we think the flu is gone. Mother Earth needs us to back off for awhile and let her heal :D

Hey guys (and the lucky folks who can still run outdoors)

I just did 1 hour jogging back & forth on the 12 meter "course" I came up with in my house. It wasn't so bad actually!!! The time just flew. I didn't realize it was an hour already until the alarm on my watch beeped. They guy who ran a marathon on his balcony only had 7 meters, so I guess I'm luckier. LOL

The whole family's laughing, and to think that's after telling the kids so many times not to run around in the house🤣

I'll hit my spin bike for half an hour later, then work on my core & use the dumbells for the neglected parts not touched by running. I may not be doing my usual route, but I'm determined to come out of this community quarantine a much better runner than ever. 😜

When there's a will, there's a way!

Ah, don't mind me, I'm just a crazy runner cooped up in the house hahaha... just sharing! 🤣

Well, here in Singapore, closure of schools and workplaces mean....our govt is soon have to take tough measures...despite the potential economic consequences....possibly...city-state can be under "lockdown" (like most countries right now)...

You are in safe hands and doubt there will be a lock down whereby you cannot go to the park..otherwise, if really "lockdown", and if PCN (Park Connector Network) and NP (National Park) are banned like in Italy...uncle can join you guys with Virtual Marathon or Marathon aka Ultramarathon back & forth on the 12 meter "course" ...😷

Swim...bathtub 2 meter...back & forth....1930 times...Ironman-style

@kohpapa  LOL! 😂 Bathtub??? You could probably do ONE stroke of the dog paddle there, and I don't have a bathtub, so its going to be just a duathlon for me if I join you guys 😅 Hmmm... wait a minute, I think we still have the inflatable kiddie wading pool in  storage somewhere. 🤪

By the way, I did another hour on my 12 meter indoor course today- I'm just thankful It's not as cramped as the video on the 66 year old guy. It seems like an apartment in Hong Kong?

That Changi Beach Park seems really nice! It's so far off in the East for the usual non-local to go to though, so I might have to research it up a bit. (The only place I've been to in Changi is the airport of course) Is there a place nearby where you can rent a locker to keep your clothes, or shower after your run? I don't think folks would appreciate it if I get into the MRT all sweaty. 😅

@Lady Ice I'm so envious you guys still have nice places to run! When I went to London I did manage to do a few runs in Hyde Park, but there was this nice place near the Royal Observatory in Greenwich that seemed lovely too. 😉

Well, that's it. I'm still waiting for my SDM refund (not a word from them since my last update), and I don't think I'll be joining any races until at least Sept this year, depending how this plague works out. My heart goes out to those guys in Italy & Spain, unfortunately, we we might be treading down the same path here.

Yes, Kohpapa and Singaporeans are very fortunate. You've got good leadership and citizens that are willing to work hand in hand with their government. This is how a leader should act in a crisis- PM Lee has my respect & admiration:

@RaijinFJ - yah I feel the same way about everything you have said.

I will not be booking anything this year as believe mass events will continually be cancelled unless Singapore's population all become infected with covid19 and develop an immunity.

A good article on cancellation of races.

6 Things Race Directors Wish Runners Understood About Canceled Events

Most of the things are not really new but there are a few interesting titbits especially with regards to options offered by race directors for cancelled races (other than refunds of cos). These are some options that our local race organisers can consider for their cancelled races.

Quote

Flying Pig is offering four options for Flying Pig runners: postponement until the weekend of October 9–11, when organizer Pig Works is already scheduled to hold a women’s-only half marathon; deferral until 2021, 2022, or 2023; a virtual run; or donating this year’s registration fee and getting a 25 percent off coupon for a future event.

And perhaps the best quote of all '`…and yet, at the end of the day, it’s just a race.'

Quote

Race directors recognize the gravity of what’s happening across the world, with people dying and gravely ill and with families facing sudden unemployment. The seriousness of COVID-19 is not lost on anyone. “How blessed and fortunate we are that this will be the least of our worries,” Simspon Bush said. “In the overall scheme of things, we can get through this. We’ll find ways.”

So for those who are KPKB about races being cancelled, maybe a little prospective will not hurt.

I agree with lonewolf.

At least local races are postponed or given option to refund or carry forward to next year.

There are other activities such as overseas hikings. Very difficult to get refund if you suddenly cannot make it because of travel restrictions.

So let's just exercise and keep running on our own. Stay fit. Stay healthy. Stay safe.

@StarFinder - hope Singapore continues to keep its people safe and never goes along the same tag line as the Trump.

Right now the USA wants to focus on the economy rather than the people. I pray that all world leaders turn their back on the US if they thinks it is okay to sacrifice their people for a capitalist economy. It won't just be the old that die.

At least local races are postponed or given option to refund or carry forward to next year...mostly local races that have not stated in their service agreement (rules and regulations)...

SDSM 2020 was a flat NO, but offer cancellation (100%) and carry forward to next year...

Income run 2020 offered cancellation (100%) and stated reason why it will not postpone...

Firstly, for not losing Loyalty Runners (customers)...and Simply...there is an exceptional reason - affected by Local Authority on Limited Restrictions during Covid-19 - having the need to do A -Z to ensure...250 and below...to comply Social Distancing marking...in a normal non-Covid-19 race preparation...this requires  additional administration...labour and time and more expenses...so best is to cancel or carry forward (postpone)

It is about time, OMG! no refund, no signup....must include bad services such as Water Not Enough, Route too narrowed or unsafe to run such as..

That is why, we sounded Boycott or Voice Out what happened in the past expeeriences at the start of Forum thread... to remind runners...bad running experiences come with no refund even if you should also kpkb (complained in local contact "cry papa cry mama - ibu - malay and bu - dlalect means mother")

Future race...OMG! no refund, no signup

SDSM 2020....well...no comment...please let us know best...Refund $$$ returns to your pocket only for the Covid-19 reason...negatives and bad experiences of past editions shall carry forward to SDSM 2021 not because of you have Refund or Carry Forward...we also want to read your Refund Policy stated as service agreement next time...and if we don't like it...we then decide otherwise....

We need to improve the sub-standards of some ,if not, most of the local event organisers, for we have been "awakened" by Covid-19. We pay expensively (not on how cheap or expensive or even free)  and we deserve the best..`…and yet, at the end of the day, it’s just a race, but we will surely KPKB if it is NOT!'...why, because of Covid-19...things must change for the better! otherwise... 😷

    • BTW here is about sneezing... though sneezing is not part of covid19, people who might have it and inadvertently sneeze can spread it
    • Yes - and think we cab begin to redefine how we want the New World order to be Here is a WHO guideline about Personal Protection etc for infectious diseases: https://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/handle/10665/331498/WHO-2019-nCoV-IPCPPE_use-2020.2-eng.pdf
    • It’s natural to compare the two outbreaks, keeping in mind just how severe the Spanish flu outbreak was.  While Covid-19 could get much worse, if we fail to adequately adopt measures like social distancing, aggressive testing , and quarantining. It is all about social responsibility. Keep us updated on what and how UK handles Covid-19, which is a little different from SG. The role of govts are to care for their people, of course, mindful of how Covid-19 has impact the economy. Here in SG is GDP. When going running, have been taking a 10m distance from people. We don't have issues here, except now we must maintain group of 10 and below, and social distancing at 1m till mid-April Perhaps, we focus on future races with social distancing, how would that impact races - announcement to register (with transparency with if there a Refund in the event of postponement and cancellation for any reason), rpc venue, reporting to pen, is it going to be more wave starts, race routes must cater for social distancing, finishing at ending, "Move on" maintaing social distancing, exit from race site, keep 10 or 50 or 250 always...  Definitely, uncle will skip any race this year for reasons that Covid-19 is not free, and understanding pandemic operates in waves, up and down, no idea how many more after the 1st wave - 3 weeks from now. Will there be 2nd or 3rd wave..only the medical experts from WHO can advise us, with the govt implementing advisory and enforcement of rules and laws for non-compliance. Keep strong and "active" running program...whether 7m or 12m or 20m in home or outdoor. The world will not be the same after this pandemic. 😷
    • The UK has a 2m distance. My tyre provides a 2m distance ;)...... but stay away from my tyre - no play play When going running, have been taking a 10m distance from people, don't want to be running into their viral breath Think Singapore will be learning from the Spanish Flu. From what have read, in 1918 Australia was very successful in controlling the Spanish Flu as they closed their borders, doing  isolation, etc. In 1919 Australia got hit very badly when they got re-infected. It will be interesting what sg  govt will implement along the timeline. The UK will try to get everyone infected over an extended period of time so that everyone eventually has immunity. Think they wanted to originally have a great big infection party (herd immunity), but with the potential that more than the old folk will die, they have changed their tactic and will go for a trickle which means discipline is required to keep the curve flat.  So the UK is doing catch and currently trying to change the yellow curve to purple!  Personally think Sg has got it right. So now watch which govts care for their people and watch those that care much more for the money of the very rich..... opps sorry the economy
