Marina Run has become virtual run in view of prolong  COVID-19 situation. No refund will be given. More details as per FB link below.

https://www.facebook.com/epicesr.sg

Interestingly, No Refund Policy was offered when sign-up, and there was no policy for what if the race is postponed, and since no more postpone date is offered for the rest of 2020 because of Covid-19 (after having postponed once), so Marina Run has become Virtual Run.

Reminded of Uncle of Nagoya Women's Marathon 2020...

Online Marathon Run still in progress...(info - nagoya.womens.marathon facebook)

Feedback from a week ago...

fbf9cfdb58b2f63f92.jpg

Feedback seems more on, not able to run at current LockDown or what if someone couldn't complete the online marathon. Participation prizes like "race entitlements" to be delivered to participants..Apps fail to register run...

The idea that you can run a race with no start or finish line but still get a medal might seem odd, so what is the point? How do Virtual Races work, and are they worth the time, energy, and money?

Let uncle explained more...Virtual Races are for medals.

Disney's offers one of its multi-race challenges for people who buy into the Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon. Runners who register and complete both this race (virtual) and the real-world Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon Walt Disney World Resort can get a "Kessel Run" Millennium Falcon medal.

Meaning that the Kessel Run medal is just a $69 upcharge for Dark Side Half Marathon finishers, who actually do have to complete a 13.1 run in one go in a reasonable amount of time

The Kessel Run challenge costs $10 more than just the Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon race. Hey, extra medal!

That is how the motivation for signing up a Virtual Race, to participate entry fee in Half Marathon Real Run and still can get both finishing Medals with an extra medal for a cost of only $10, get it? Motivation for Run.

There is star wars virtual run @ https://starwarsvirtualrunsea-registration.liv3ly.com/

My personal preference for virtual run is it should be at least HM and above and shouldn't cost too much. E.g. I am taking on 'World Cities Online Challenge' by spacebib. It is 42 km and the long distance motivates me to plan multiple runs to complete it.

Virtual runs in a way do instill some kind of discipline, which is good, to complete them.

I have joined virtual run as well & i do agree with you that require some discipline.

But at the end of the day these virtual organizers are still business entity. Reason is they would want to canvass as much runners as possible instead of minimum HM & above runners.

Agree. Distances are individual preferences. In any case, it does help people to stay fit by planning for runs to complete the distance.

Actually for both of you, if the CB should not be "extended" or when CB should be less "restrictive", none of us here shall be talking about Event Organizers suggesting to ALL Registered Participants, NO Refund on your Paid Entry Fee because there wasn't any Policy on Refund, just Take the Virtual Race option, and since they have excuses to say already they have invested in "prior arrangement with support/logistics arrangement" with expenses, so Everyone must bear with the Arrangement of No Refund.

So, looks like "manipulative" sales techniques considering year 2020 has not ended. Truely, if the time slot is not able to be arranged by end of year 2020, even if the Covid-19 still continued to hold on till beyond 2020, and even if Life Goes On even without Covid-19 vaccine, will everyone really still want to go "Virtual Race"?

Will you go "Virtual" run, if there will be annoucement after June 1...Exercise only for Group of 2...not more than 5 (a month later),...50 (2 months later)...250 (4 months later), 500 (6 months later)...SCSM 2020 (no restriction)...by End of November 2020.

Just like San Francisco Marathon 2020...

mybestruns.com-The-2020-San-Francisco-Ma

mybestruns.com-The-2020-San-Francisco-Ma

What we want from Race Organizers to do is "shared responsibility" because both parties did not wish that pandemic shall be affecting the race. Don't punish Participants to pay for what is your cost of Business Entity - provide Real Run vs not a subsitute of Virtual Run because this was not in the Policy (Terms of Racing).

What if there was Haze then, Virtual Run was never there in the past, just cancel and collect your entitlements.

Since there was no mutual agreement on the No Refund Policy, and we agree something (Income Eco Run and Sundown Marathon Singapore) that is only with Goodwill and Loyalty is the reason why Race has to be cancelled because of Covid-19. Only simply greed in "profiteering" from the pandemic by acting blur about there is No Refund policy... will be those that will not want to consider any option (Full Refund or Transfer to 2021).

Awakened..because of Covid-19...It is important to those who are administratoring respective thread forum for any Race,  please review past experiences of both the good and the negatives, to remind those who are new entrants (newbies) and even seasoned participants who wanted to try out the race, be objective and better still don't, "Last time I took part it was good, and so what was negatives are not really important. So move on." Be objective also on the negatives. Every race event comes with Caveats at your Own Risks.

Awakened..So if any runners want to sign for any run event, no choice have to open eyes big big to read terms & conditions to know your rights....thought we do that for all the things that are important and essential to our lives...except it is not important and non-essential when signing up for run races.

Awakened...do you know why Non-Runner Community has been saying this to the Running Community - why pay Kam Kong (comes from Kampong...Kam "country" Kong "bumpkins") fee like $85 and more to run a marrathon when you can run for free, alone? True, because Exercise Run (without Mask) is Essential...Running in Events is always Non-Essential..

Fellow Kam Kong runners (we beg to be wiser next time), now you run Virtual (alone) Race when you have paid for Real Race, isn't that why Non-Running Community justify in saying, "We told you so, why you all so Kam Kong, ah?"

Uncle is learning to be wiser Awakened Kam Kong runner everyday...so can you..because of Covid-19.😷

take care of that plantar issues...meaning...your "elasticity" of the sole like rubber, not like last time, when ready to run, the tension is tightened for run..now, the tension is forever "Tight", and pain everytime you start your engine...

Tight Achilles tendons, which are the tendons attaching your calf muscles to your heels, may also result in plantar fascia pain

no need to really challenge to exercise for any run event in 2020...in fact, no race event "dare" to proceed due to Covid-19...those that challenged...postpone once...twice...cancel..with Full Refund, most still postpone...some already said, "Go for Virtual Race".

Uncle had suffered with Archilles Tendinitis and plantar fasciitis for years and shared...very much closer to plantar issues...bro..aging issues actually...particular sensitive to weather change...in recent days...wet-hot-hot-wet...humidity will be higher and higher in coming months...

take care..just read this forum is good enough...the rest is Cancel or Postponed...everyone is waiting on at SCSM 2020...most likely that one may have a go for SGUnited! 😷

Fast food chain McDonald’s Singapore has extended its closure after it was initially set to reopen on May 5, the restaurant said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Apr 30).

McDonald’s did not specify when its stores would reopen, but said they would be closed for “just a little longer” in light of the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

It explained that under the essential services framework, it would be allowed to restart operations from May 4, but decided not to. It first suspended restaurant operations on Apr 19.

“We’ve decided to extend our closure for just a little longer for the safety and well-being of our employees and customers.

“We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in the community before determining an appropriate time for us to reopen.”

It's the end of the month so I have made an update to the Bar Chart race.

I have removed SEA countries that have reported low number of COVID-19 cases like Vietnam, Brunei, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia. In their place, I have included countries in our region with comparable cases like Australia, Japan and South Korea.

I also received feedback that the music I  used in the last video was a little edgy. And so I though what can be more appropriate for a Bar Chart Race than Vangelis' Chariots of Fire from the classic running movie.

Enjoy the race!

utterly awesome, @lonewolf, we all know how Singapore has caught up in the ranking (#1) in the most reported cases because of active testing and tracing which will run its course in May, maybe into June.

uncle gives more details on breakdown of countries in Asia as of up to April 30, 2020 on reported deaths and serious conditions, and in this Singapore has shown to be least (last) in ranking.

We are not really proud on the outcome of the reported (most cases, cases of death, cases of serious conditions), for we are still not sure, when and how Covid-19 can really end.

It seems that reports from Medical Experts are recovered cases will show up positive later. Towards the end of the year, when the weather gets colder, the virus will start to infect again.

Precautionary and preventive measures must in placed. To implement re-Lockup or to extend CB or MCO (Malaysia), we shall only wait to see in May and after that, June.

By then, let's hope Singapore will not report any 1st placing for most reported cases, for we need to flatten the curve to single digit or even zero,, so that we can be free again. 😷

COVID-19: Stay-home notice period extended for work permit and S Pass holders in construction sector

(CNA News)

A mandatory stay-home notice for work permit and S Pass holders in the construction sector has been extended by two weeks until May 18, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said on Friday (May 1).

These workers and their dependents were to serve stay-home notices until May 4, but this will now last until 11.59pm of May 18.

The ministry said that authorities have been closely monitoring the infections among construction workers living outside purpose-built dormitories, where movement restrictions remain in force.

The number of infections in this group has continued to rise, and the prevalence remains "noticeably higher" than the general community.

This suggests that "transmission at construction worksites among such workers had occurred before the start of the stay-home notice period", said MOM.
