COVID-19 and its impact on Races

Recommended Posts

Have suggested to some large events that they consider changing their model for this time and do virtual runs / a league ladder to help inspire people to get active (not referring to those on here) :)

@RaijinFC there are a lot of positives from this pandemic. With the lockdowns - a new normal is occurring and am hoping capitalism evolves. We now see who really are the important "key people" in this world and that they should be paid better / pay no tax / have better benefits. The air smells better in the UK with the lack of planes / manufacturing and have spoken to many people who said they are sleeping better. I presume this is from the reduction of running around trying to do the social thing, keeping up with the latest gadget..... when the economy is kick started people should look to buy local to help their local companies...... anyway better not write too much cos get scolding for being off track.

@KohPapa - received an email from Ironman - they are doing virtual events and selling t-shirts to complete your virtual event in!

Am grateful for the park 1 mile from my house. 25 hectares to run around in. Am grateful that once upon a time the park wardens kicked me out for dragging a tyre and only accepted me back in if I would run in the park where no one or few would be. I know so many quiet tracks. :)  Gonna be hard pushed to complete 14 more marathons after this is all over.

Very much like in UK Lockdown situation...simply, we have not flattened the curve yet..

Source : CNA (cited for information on the latest situation on Circuit Breaker)

Most workplaces across Singapore have shut, as the country begins a "circuit breaker" period in the fight against COVID-19. The stricter safe distancing measures will be in place until May 4. Under the new rules, all workplaces -- except those providing essential services -- must shut for four weeks, and it means about three in four workers across the country will either work from home or stop working. The city's usually bustling financial hub has been brought to a standstill.

Social Distancing - "essential" Exercise of  walk/jog/run/bike but no swimming at Parks...near and close to your home...not to gather in groups...otherwise, just stay home with families or friends living together...this comes under the Social gatherings of any size in both private and public spaces prohibited new Bill aka COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Bill..

I like the term "circuit breaker". Hopefully it helps to reduce panic buying.

Well, here, most of us don't go to grocery, marketplace or supermarket to buy food to cook. We buy food at our favourite food stalls, and eat out.

But, now till May 4, No Dining Out.

Members of the public are highly advised to comply with the elevated safe distancing measures imposed from now till May 4

Importantly, whether you Exercise, Buy or Eat, Anyone meeting people with whom they do not live risks six months in prison, a fine of S$10,000 ($7,000) or both.

What can and can you not do during Singapore's Circuit Breaker (CB) period?

....Except Sg panic buy toilet paper and instant noodles for lockdown!!!

well, according to a UK news report

Coronavirus: Why people are panic buying toilet paper, according to a pandemic expert

Coronavirus_-Why-people-are-panic-buying

It is a worldwide snowballing effect, that includes also in UK...added by social media (that includes exclusively sgRunners), panic buying of toilet paper is all about preparedness and safety given that Covid-19 is a global pandemic.

instant-noodles.jpg

same reason for instant noodles...in Sg, we have hawker food stalls

Best-Hawker-Centre.jpg

Dining out is a normal daily activity that is filled with passionate bonding with social closeness. Yes, we even use tissue papers (panic buying) so to "chop" or reserve seats for others and nobody in Sg question because we are a gracious society. We care and share Fine Dining including world-class michelin stars.

Abuthen, now in this CB (Circuit Breaker) with an emotion of disgust...but with a mute and silent gracious outburst...

Same reason for wearing masks¬†ūüė∑¬†during the CB period (again not an¬†emotion of disgust and definitely nor¬†a vulgar outburst and truely not very motivated to avoid not expressing both in a state of emotional disgust with¬†mute and silent gracious outburst)¬†

CB lah! SGUnited

shop.jpg

btw, @Lady Ice, uncle needs to correct and not to nag or scold, Sg is in a state of CB, not lockdown like in UK and most parts of the world...otherwise, for saying or quoting "wrong info"...we kena "to be corrected" or¬†Lim Kopi¬†or Jalan Jalan to Court and be sued until one's pants or skirts dropped ...so don't play play...don't end with 3-in-1 (Fine or Jail or Court or¬†ALL)...because Sg is not lockdown¬†ūüĎĆ

Latest, CB lah! SGUnited to be implemented on public transport..

transport.md.jpg

you have been warned¬†- don't end up with 2-in-1 (Fine or Jail or ALL)...don't play play..ūüė∑

You wouldn't like it so much if I post some of the borderline NSFW memes that is circulating like wildfires since the term was coined.

The term has just being a goldmine for sites who specialise in the humourous and satirical contents.

I mean there is one floating around using what Min Chan CS said in parliament and warning that if the current circuit breaker measure does not work, then it could be extended. And what would it be call? Complete Circuit Breaker.

Note: Team sgRunersUnited has opted to run on cross-country sites like in dairy farm, macritchie or chestnut. So suggestion, why not we add with evidence of pics on¬†venue and activities of Good Fun, and share here at this Forum Thread. As for uncle, because of a Japanese Virtual Race Challenge¬†that required¬†uncle to Run¬†in Snow (Cross-country Running) for 50km (registered distance option)..."Fun on Sapporo Virtual Race 2021"... so uncle came with the¬†wearing this pair "snowshoe" for "cross-country" virtual race challenge...run on ECP beaches...50KM accumulative... For "non-winter" Singapore...uncle explained to the Japanese Organizer Sapporo.... Snow¬†here is always Sun and Sand. So Team, if you want to Join and Meet or Remote Run, you now understand¬†why uncle's choice for the Cross Country Virtual Race Relay 10KM Route and Vanue...just because uncle needs to "combine" 10KM evidence concurrently with another VIrtual Race Challenge 50KM..ūüėÉ
    • Yes, the world has changed.¬†Not permanently of course, since this is nothing new, actually. Throughout history, man has had to cope with some form of pestilence (from leprosy, the black plague, smallpox,¬†tuberculosis, influenza... ) but our ancestors¬†have survived. Their descendants (that's us) now number almost 8 billion on this planet. It's just our generation's turn now¬†to step up to the plate and rise to the challenges of this day and age.¬† The way things are going though, it¬†appears we're going to have prepare ourselves to fight this long haul. Oh boy... what we wished would be a speedy 5k, is now a full blown marathon¬†ūüėÖ¬†hopefully, it doesn't turn into an ultra... ¬†
    • I hope that would be the way to go for international marathons, even after this pandemic. To allow people from other countries who couldn't get a spot at the actual race to also take part virtually. Not only will it bring more money for the organizers, but it will also allow more runners to feel some form of participation to the race, though it is just running in their own backyard.
    • London Marathons plans 50,000 Run in-place and 50,000 Remote..
