So lots either change of route or lesser events that day... but I am sure people will be more wary this year when the notice of SCSM comes online...

1. Note the change from "IAAF" to "World Athletics"

2. Schedule for World Athletics is up to Sept for 1st Half, 2nd Half is from Oct to March.

3. SCSM FB says "Mark Calendar" because this is when submit for Calendar, this is to be reflected in Dec 2020, which is not out officially.

4. However, based on the details which were extracted, it is better to "prepare" what is to be expected.

5. Yes, noted change is 5KM (officially a new Distance category) is to be start on 5 Dec (Saturday) morning at 8:30am. 10KM (already an existing  World Ranking Road Race) is to start on 6 Dec (Sunday) at 6:30am.

Unlike in 2019:

6. It will be interested to note that Platinum Label Road Race starts from 2020.

World-Athletics57ef59732961d134.jpg

Application for Platinum Labels shall only be accepted from races that have been Gold Label for at least 3 consecutive years (2017-2019)

SCSM is definitely can be qualified for Application for Platinum Label.

Not possible to have lesser events... how are you going to control so many stakeholders' plans?

Change of route is more likely... stretch more to less crowded areas like ECP.... and more media announcements on road closures....

Routes sanctioned for World Athletics Label Road Race must be applied ahead for SCSM 2020: 5KM (new), 10Km, Marathon 42.195KM.

Any changes made different from 2019 will be measured:

Without accurate measurement of road race courses, and the development of accurate timing for road races, it would
never have been possible for the World Athletics to recognise World Records for performances on the road.

rulesf05faf2f330a0ccb.jpg

Road course measurement using a bicycle equipped with a Jones Counter; which is still today the only means of measurement accepted by the World Athletics for the accurate measurement of Road Race Courses.

Likely that 2018/2019 Routes remain the same.

FYI.

No doubt, the measurement of road race courses in SCSM is accurate, and it's trustworthy. The GPS watch will be less accurate when runners pass through CBD area.

In my opinion, road closure issue at CBD cannot be resolved at all. Non-runners will NEVER be understanding. These can be seen 1) NDP held either at Padang or Floating Platform 2) Spore F1 Night Race where there are still alot of complaints about jams or affecting nearby business. So what's new?

I believe in Beast's sharing of stretching to ECP to lessen the traffic impact. No complaints? Impossible.

Road Traffic Act (Pedestrian Crossings) Rules: Who are the Pedestrians

Handling of Road Closures are the matters of LTA and Traffic Police (with 500 auxiliary police).

Joint Operations Committee - SCSM organiser, LTA, Traffic Police, SportSG and the Singapore Tourism Board will have to engage actively with the stakeholders (both social and commercial) for 2020 - has been decided by the Authority (Parliament).

I believe in Beast's sharing of stretching to ECP to lessen the traffic impact. No complaints? Impossible.

Definition of who are the Pedestrians whether in CBD or ECP is the same. Complaints are always there both in CBD and ECP.

Suggestions on the change of routes are possible, since ECP has been included in past SCSM editions. However, due to upgrading of ECP in recent year (and also possibly in 2020), the route to ECP in 2019 has been shortened.

Notable positive factor: WMM has planned to expand to 9 cities on top of the present 6. Singapore and China (Chendu Marathon) are candidates for city or cities in Asia (outside of Japan), and Ironman Asia is working towards achieving making Singapore Marathon's bid to be part of the WMM by 2021.

Impossible? Everything is Possible. Nothing is Impossible. Non-runners will NEVER be understanding. Actually, they just need more time to understand with proper communication and information with "active engagement" sessions in this sgRunners forum. 😀

There is a saying:

image.jpeg.61264446d5a9b75b6c39f160b996068d.jpeg

But in this case for SCSM, you can't please all of the people all of the time. The govt agencies and SCSM will just need to make sure there is plenty of notification about the event on social media, newspapers, TV and radio + STB and LTA need ensure it is on their calendar and other relevant calendars. At least most people will know about it even if they're not happy about it.

You really think the government can and will control the number of events happening on 5 Dec evening? They can and will control the number of couples going to hold weddings in town, the performers coming here to put on concerts, the groups that are going to hold events like AFA.....?

I don't know what to say if you really think the government is going to do that.....

There will still be complaints of course, but it should be less disruptive to the non-runners as it is away from the city area.

Otherwise what other alternatives are there? Run from town to Changi and back?

Then probably some spectators will complain that the race venue is too far, very inconvenient to access there.

We can't make 100% people 100% satisfied.

Events for the future, are very unpredictable...die die also must get married - Act of God - in the Philippines...happened.

So dec 5, will there be a tsunami event then? die die also must get married - Act of God?

Sundown Marathon past editions, yes.

3. Then probably some spectators will complain that the race venue is too far, very inconvenient to access there.

SCSM past editions, coaches actually ferry spectators to ECP and cheer the runners, and return to Padang.

4. We can't make 100% people 100% satisfied.

At least, try to make the event less disruptive and inconvenient for most.

I do like that Income Eco highlights some aspects but really wish they would do far more. Whilst the stats might sound impressive - the truth is there is a lack of transparency down the line.

There is very little demand for PET bottles and would be interested with whom they are selling the bottles to as we export our plastic abroad and that currently sits at 4% with the majority of that coming from Industrial plastic waste. Talked to a couple of the resellers and they would not take the plastic bottles from SCSM as they said it will be incinerated and we would therefore have to pay them to take them!!!  I even said I would take off the labels and caps to give them a pure product (different plastics to the bottles). They still refused to take the bottles. The Waste Management companies we have worked with at both Sundown and SCSM both said the plastic bottles were not worth it!!! We did manage to repurpose about 4,500 plastic caps in 2019. In 2018 we did manage to find 2 companies to take about 10,000 plastic bottles to use in art!

As for the paper cups - have noted they have a waxy lining which could be plastic or a petroleum based wax lining. If they are "recycled" they will be exported to most likely Malaysia as China wants the waste paper to be 99.5% pure paper! Hence there is still a carbon pollution element. Really want the Eco side to be much more. But have given up with them as had deaf ears.

    • @beast, uncle has tried every reason to stick on SCSM 2020 Virtual Club platform with progressive Base Training Plan towards the "grand finale" edition... on the the hope, if there should be a designated route , say for only "invited" participants... at SCSM Virtual Club there is an accumulating "challenging distance" activities with leaderboard for Points...     as well as VR Race categories for leading "VR Runners" SCSM VR Club format...Distance Activities (Challenge) in Points and Race (Pace) with Ranking... in uncle's opinion, the selection criteria may say "invited participants" depends on how much have your training activity and how ready are you for the "grand finale" via your pace and ranking...which is monitored and recording in the 15 Weeks (VR #01 - #15)...against all others in the Community who are sharing in the Virtual Club... regarding on the issue of apps...pretty good...tested and proven to be reliable..SCSM (Ironman) standard...no comments...uncle uses Runkeeper..GPS Only Locator...Distance option only... uncle has not registered with a fee, because it is FOC..so what's the medal quality, finisher tee consideration...only when the "grand finale" edition is announced...so you want VR #01-15 finisher bundles or finisher tees...it is your discretion..there is no obligation... importantly is...between now to the actual day of "Race" day...whether it is VR or/and Run for Elites, or/and Selected Participants Only...say up to 250, or 500, or 1,000, 5,000..."selectively" like in recent Japan Marathons "elite run clubs"...or  "lottery" like in Taipei Marathon recently announcement... if decision to run on a "designated" route...announcement should be publicly in both social and print media...supported by MOH (safe distancing measures plan and approved), Sports Singapore (approval on mess event managment plan), Local Authority...with LTA/TP...agreed on Road Closures... event if the grand finale has a VR, would it be 1 session or Challenges which are 1-2 sessions..based on past weeks...why not Train for the SCSM 2020 format...and you would know, if given the format in 15 weeks...surely...no problem, it is achievable...1 session or up to 2 to 3 sessions accumulatively... something very unique about SCSM 2020 format... say if you should complete 21km in the future for 1 session...and if you should exceed 1km more beyond the 21km...SCSM 2020 had reminded to participants...please do not "not exceeded"...otherwise..." yes, don't overchong the distance.. see, even uncle dare not chong the 20km challenge...15.13 + 5.85...is 20.98 KM...so can practice for the VR which is stricter on "not exceeded" btw, the Challenge can be repeated..max is 3... attempts...so uncle can still chong 3 x 20KM for 60KM for this challenge as this one ends today...2359..lol overall response so far... Hope this helps! VR (weekends) and Challenge (weekdays)..SCSM 2020 format...this one is different from the other virtual runs...😀 Note: if the 4-5-6 Dec is considered as SCSM 2020 weekend...then the VR (Grand Finale) should have maintained the same format of  VR #01 - #15..and so everyone, are you ready for it? 5km/10km/21km/42km maybe Kids Dash (VR-Kids)...Run Any Place, Run Anytime, Run Global..Friday (5am) to Sunday (1159pm)? "Augmented" V-Reality... TBA...official SCSM 2020 only!
    • I am also keen to know what will be the plan for SCSM 2020 "finale"... My guess is for safety concerns, we will likely have both the option of running a designated/ recommended route or our own route to run on the first weekend of December, to prevent crowds from forming at the designated/recommended... But things are definitely looking for the better here, so maybe there is a very slight chance that larger groups are allowed before December, and staggered timings in a designated route is permissible. This will at least give runners a closer sense of running an actual race.    Actually you are given 12 days to complete the 58KM....  Mon to Fri - 2 x 10km - 20km in 5 days Sat to Sun - 5 + 15km - 20km in 2 days Mon to Fri - 8 + 10km - 18km in 5 days For ST VR 2020, you are given 60 days to complete 175km... means every week you need to clock 21km... that is certainly do-able... The main issue is ST VR is insistent on using the MOVE app, which is causing a lot of issues for runners as it a lousy tracking app that cannot be sync with most of the better running apps...You will probably need to open both the apps if you want to clock for both SCSM and ST VR mileage in a single run...
    • So far, we know the pattern >>>>> Weekend VR #01-#05 : Single Race (Pace/Hard Run) Sessions of X KM and Y KM respectively, for example this week will be 5km and 15km Challenges Offered on WeekDays: Single or Multiple Sessions (Easy/Relax Run)    gaining mileage in progression...weekly.. Say, uncle just completed last week (Friday 2359 hours)...20KM Challenge... Starting soon... VR5 of 5KM and 15KM...another 20KM contimuing next Weekdays...8KM "Preferred Route" and 10KM "Finishing Line"...another 18km... 20km + 20km + 18km...wah 58KM in 8 days...both Pace (Hard Run) and Relax (Fun)... another non-topic discussion...say if uncle were to be interested this one... free and easy...no restriction unlike in SCSM VR or Challenge Compliance 1 or 2 Session-only  175KM Category...if uncle can use SCSM Virtual Club (training plan)...with proper rest and recovery... about 3-4 weeks...Oct 19 to Nov 19 is achievable... so should uncle sign up ST VR 2020 for 175KM?... we are only at VR 5 or Week 5...still have 10 more to go...besides register to run FOC for SCSM 2020...can test and tryout if this is possible...abuthen..what's the next weekly progressive mileage next week Week 6? stay tuned...update next week... enjoy your weekend (and next week weekdays)... uncle busy gunning for 58KM in 8 Days..
