@starfinder, you can seek assistance from the administrator and founder of sgrunners @thelonelyrunner for not knowing which is the appropriate forum (not your fault) for the creation of forum thread. (you can PM @thelonelyrunner)

Otherwise, if legendary user @lonewolf can assist administratively, can help @starfinder .

If this topic is not appropriately discussed here, it is perfectly right "remove this off-topic immediately."

Knowing that @starfinder is a passionate novice FM runner as well as his interests to pursue Ultra runs and on his desire to pursue his dream to do Triathlon and the Spartans, let's us offer him proper guidance.

Leave the matters of administration of sgRunners to the rightful person in-charged.

Btw, @starfinder, uncle has followed and complied with legendary user @lonewolf's advise to move you topic of interests to the appropriate sub-forum on your behalf. You can continued your interests there.

Surely if anyone is deserving of the title 'legendary', it has to be no one but yourself.

Of cos I cannot assist administratively, I am just another member in this forum. :innocent:

Anything more than marathon 42.195 km distance.... since most of SCSM runner reported longer than 42.195 km distance they are all ultra marathoner....

Agreed.

It could be trail running, road running, hill running or any combo...as long as the route you said is beyond 42.195 km distance...you have to show the visuals and if see anything interesting...such as if got wild boars or dogs chasing you...please alert us...

It should be a non-fixed time...50km in 10 - 18 hours...no PB needed....

Basically, we are interested in your experience in your run according to the route, and we may want to experience running your routes

Trail running at the catchment area:

catchment59cf903244b10067.jpg

Or you took part in a 50KM solo race and experiences...

sg-ultra-50km.jpg

Or you covered 5 loops of MacRitchie Trials (clockwise or anti-clockwise)..which one is more challenging?

MacRitchie-Trails.jpg

You start >>> U turn (end point) >>> start...Southern Ridges...do you also include NUS route also (like NUS 10-15km route)?

@metallilan, sgRunner (proper copyright and credits)

Exploration of routes of more than 42.195 km..PCNs

before that do your homework:

It is reasonable that you could have been tired, or chose to DNF due to conditions of weather, tiredness, or just simply for no reason....you do not need to complete an Ultra Run because we might be interested in your Ultra route and run it to complete for you...later

Simply go for the maximum, and just share with us what are your Ultra Runs!

Let uncle start this one from my previous post...Road Run Ultra! route

Reason of why: It should be an Ultra Run route of interest for those who stay in Tampines/Pasir Ris.

Midnight run - simulate Sundown Marathon

Share running route plan:

Tampines East stn exit D - Start point Tampines Junior College.

Tampines JC  (Tampines East stn) >>> Loyang >>>Changi Village>>>Changi Beach Park>>>Tenah Merah Coast>>>ECP>>>Marina Barrage

Hydration/Nutrition point 1 @ Changi Village (share what I eat there for night snack)

Hydration top-up 2 @ Changi Beach Car Park 7 before Aviation Park Road

No break for almost 15km along Tenah Merah Coast PCN

Hydration top-up 3 @ECP 0-km

Hydration/Nutrition point 4 - McDonalds Breakfast

Marina Barrage (after 10 hours).

Experiences: No toilet point along Tenah Merah Coast or kena Monsoonal rain...next time better...recommend...last toilet point or hydration point better...

DNF, so how....call Grab because leg cramp...zzZZZ and knock on lamp post and faint...or sleep at Beach bench at Changi Beach Park and wakeup for SunRise...because it is simply No reason to run Ultra!

Important Note:

1. Announcement of your intended Ultra! Run so that the running community here is aware of your desire with concerns - could be expressions of "are you sure?" or better prepare or in case...these are sharing and discussion of concerns...not to say you damned how lian runner...because we have lots of Ultra bros and sis here...with experiences in the Ultra! route, and have run "more sweat" than you...

2. If anything should have happened like you fail to report post-run experiences, we expect "uplorry" concerns...PM you and no reply...don't worry..we know how to prepare for "uplorry" post-run forum thread in the right category - in memory of .....

My first ultra will definitely be road run. Don't think I have the fitness to do that for trail, and I had participated in just 1 trail run in the first edition of Force of Nature.

That ECP to Changi V route may be more viable as there are toilets along the way (LOL, look for water).

I shall start my ultra run on this evening before 6pm - rain or shine...

Tampines JC  (Tampines East stn) >>> Loyang >>>Changi Village>>>Changi Beach Park>>>Tenah Merah Coast>>>ECP>>>Marina Barrage

Because this route was part of 2011 Sundown Utramarathon : Marina Barrage >>> Bedok Reserviour >>> Marina Barrage...the only exceptional is the much longer Tanah Merah Coast Road  has replaced Changi Coast Road (both have no toilet facilities and water points)

sundown-ultramarathon-100km-route159333c

Simply Run this Ultra! for a race almost 10 years ago...

Important Notes:

1. You must have had "previous" run on your Ultra route (not new), because in uncle "Simply Run this Ultra! for a race almost 10 years ago", we prepared and trained for every 10KM Pit Stop (self-sufficient in your hydration/nutrition needs) which is unlike in normal event organiser's race, every 2-3 km, you are entitled to "hydration/nutrition needs", otherwise, you kpkb (complain)...

2. Run Ultra! is no consideration for weather condition, you must adapt to "unexpected" condition of rain, shine, day, night, thunderstorm, and unexpected events like if during trail run, after many days of rains, the terrain has flooded and become muddy, you must find ways to get out of "dangers/obstacles"...

A-very-shallow-muddy-pool.png

hence your gears for the weather condition is important...what would you have done if you should have the above encounter?

Uncle's quick answer from experiences: this could be a water table in some parts of central catchment (reservoirs) which is totally "a swimming muddy pool". In dry season, this could be a running trail perfectly for run. Also, shifting of terrain condition due to erosion of soft soil (climate change), the water table may have shifted due to nature.

3. Dangerous encounters in Trail Run in Central Catchment areas like Natural Reserve, forests may have wild animals and snakes, so look out for them and avoid...like in uncle's experience, wild dog packs, they already have your presence many kilometres away as "Human Subway Ultra! Meal Set with hydration/nutrition"...make sure you are not

banana8245084b7e8b94c8.gif

for monkeys chase you...

4. Explore, but, set a limit for self, fitness is the most important criteria to be able to be alert to self (body suddenly goes weak, or heart beat gets too irregular) and the environment.

5. Don't treat Ultra! Run as fun, because there is always many variable factors in planning of route, conditions of weather, your condition of present fitness (was there flu or sickness prior to run), and must be self sufficient in hydration/nutritional needs.

6. Always be alert of Cat 1 Lightning Warning.. don't become a target for BBQ Human Satay

Completed a not so Ultra! Run of 40km:

Tampines JC (Tampine PC) >>> Loyang PCN >>> Changi Village >>>Changi Beach Park >>> Changi Coast Road >>>Tenah Merah Coast Road>>>ECP>>>Marina Barrage

for Simply Run this Ultra! for a race almost 10 years ago (2011 Sundown Ultramarathon route)

TampinesLoyang57131f82858e47f3.jpg

changi-village.jpg

widened51f487d5a19c015c.jpg

Uncle has 3 times failed mission (DNF) to proceed from ECP to Changi Village which is connected to the (New) Changi Coast Road for Early Morning Start from Marina Barrage in the past.

1st time - DNF due to Hot Weather. 2nd time - DNF due to lack of hydration, simply why do Ultra! for no reason. 3rd time - Bad Weather with CAT 1 Lightning.

The (Old) Changi Coast Road used to be an eventful route for many races - past editions of Sundown Marathon which then started from Changi Exhibition Centre. Also, most of the Bike and Run of Triathlons were held here.

Changi-Exhibition-Centre.jpg

Aviation Park Road leads to Changi Exhibition Centre.

In the past, ECP >>> Tenah Merah Canal leads straight to the (Old) Changi Coast Road and about 8km leads to Changi Beack Park easily.

However, with the Tenah Merah Coast Road plus (New) Changi Coast Road, now this actually "extended".

ECP >>> Tenah Merah Canal >>> Tenah Merah Coast Road >>> Changi Coast Road >>> Aviation Park Road >>> Changi Beach Park (15 km route)

So this time, uncle took an evening run instead from 4pm...

why-afternoon.jpg

(info - Running for the health and fitness : No Pain and Injury Free

From the Tampines PC-Loyang PC-Changi Village-Changi Beach Park (Car Park 7) Hydration/Nutrition Point 1 (Pit Stop)

15km ++ and enter ECP 0km (NSRCC: Singapore Golf and Country Club) for a deserving Hydration/Nutrition Point 2 (Pit Stop). Imagine,  almost 1/2 of the 40km route with no water and toilet facilities is consumed in this supposingly Marina Barrage>>ECP>>> Tenah Merah Canal >>> Tenah Merah Coast Road >>> Changi Coast Road >>> Aviation Park Road >>> Changi Beach Park

Enjoy at Changi Beach Park..windsurfing and kitesurfing

kitesurfinga8c3177ce0a22de9.jpg

Even at Changi Coast Road, illegal entry to "State Land - You will be Arrested for Trespassing", seen vehicles entered to the coastal beaches (untouched).

Of course, uncle got to do "toilet business" to relieve a pre-protein-carbo loading of "meal set of mutton chops with cheese elbow macaroni and potato wedge as free side dishes"...top up for hot beverage with free ice creams...

Adapted Run this time means

1. Sun sets in the west, hot weather is not so hot in the East - Evening Run

2. No lack of hydration because this is taken care at Changi Beach Park (Car Park 7) - Hydration/Nutrition Pit-stop adjusted.

There are only 5 small huts meant for 2/3 persons for shelter (roof top fitted with lightning rods) and the trash cans are solar-cell panel - Changi Beach Park to Changi Coast Road.

No toilet facilities? No problem - those illegal entry tracks for windsurfing, kitesurfing and beach walking in low tides have plenty of bushes, uncle had left One Ton of Zero Waste, buried. There are more than 10 illegal tracks, no need to number them. Uncle remembered them for future runs.

It was a good with this not so Ultra! Run (less than marathon 42.195 km distance), but at least uncle managed to find alternative way to overcome Marina Barrage to Changi Village Run is not possible (in the past managing with the old Changi Coast Road is possible)?

Nothing is Impossible! Everything is Possible! just reverse the route lah; just run evening lah; and just find solutions to overcome the obstacles.

Ultras is¬†not about competing against the people around you...it is a way for people to empower yourself...DNFs why?...Why not reverse the route, change time of run...distance and mission of run accomplished...no need PB, Finisher Medal and Finishing Tee...also solve no toilet facilities, so easy Just Do¬†It!¬†ūüėɬ†

So what's Next - Ultra! Run?

Bedok Reservoir to Marina Barrage - this one will be almost 50km

Bedok Reservior>>>Tampines Ave10>>>Pasir Ris Park>>>Pasir Ris Drive 3>>>Loyang PCN >>> Changi Village >>>Changi Beach Park >>> Changi Coast Road >>>Tenah Merah Coast Road>>>ECP>>>Marina Barrage for Run this New Ultra! for a race almost 10 years ago (2011 Sundown Ultramarathon route) in 2020.

Thanks for sharing this run. For the purpose of other runners who might want to attempt the same, mind sharing too:

4pm start, what time did you reach your end point at Marina Barrage? How about your gears (cap, sunglasses, shoes or sandals, etc)? Did you run with a hydration vest? How much water did you carry with you? Any gel, food? Thank you.¬†ūüôā

Congrats to Uncle for clearing a long distance. I have only cycled in this route but not running.

The barefoot running shoes - some runners had told me wearing them to run will prevent any chance of knee pain. Just don't know how true this is.

Into 8:30-9pm...due to at ECP stretch, many families have BBQ and gathering...so running to dodge kids, families biking...so don't run on Weekend especially Saturday evening @ECP

No, uncle simply do not run with hydration gear any more...simply top up at Vending Machines....I have trained to last beyond 17km, but use Top Up at Pit-Stop (10KM) for nutrition/hydration has been uncle's running strategy... meaning eating real food (which I have planned at Changi Village to eat a snack meal if planned to run Midnight)...but, since I run evening, already my pre-protein-carbo has taken care for the first Half Marathon nutrition needs...

But, I would "strongly recommend" for those who are not so "endured"...please bring your hydration/nutrition/gel...match what is your 10-17km running needs...for different runners have their personal preferences....uncle already have "experienced" and gel too much is not encouraged...but for newbies...you must have "enough" nutrition and gel is "instant" glucose, but not necessary enough for up to next 5km...your body will tell you...from more practices of Long distances..uncle's opinion..

Except for a little "dinner" planned to eat along ECP so that I can finish say 5km to Marina Barrage (following the route of 2011 sundown ultramarathon, we took underpass at Fort Road, Arthur Road, Geylang River PC , Garden by the Bay East to Marina Barrage and not via Marina Golf Club-Garden by the Bay East like current editions of Sundown or SCSM...also, promised Aunty...go back home for dinner...so I skip (again, due to training, can move on beyond 17km)...

The whole journey from Loyang to Tanah Merah Coast is full of Heavy Trucks for sand and gravels, and uncle and bikers are the only ones having areobic endurance working out. No more you hear of Airplanes Touching Down or Flying Up (except Changi Village and Changi Beach Park (CP 1-6) ...the whole place (Aviation Park Road, Changi Coast Road and Tenan Merah Coast Road) reminds uncle of massive  "construction site"...on day time, you see the dirt flying discreetly...but when evening time...you will know why "you shouldn't run" because it is visible of "soot with sand dust"...a reality check...you may have to wear "mask" for evening/night (because heavy truck activities intensified) but uncle would say only "ghost" or seow lang runners like uncle would do that...evening/night running...

Yes, you must prepare to bear at least of 10km++ of "no contact" of runners...for it has always been a challenge "how to run" Tanah Merah Coast Road and Changi Coast Road combo (reverse)...better "U" turn or don't even start run from ECP or Changi Beach Park...for this is a one-way ticket to nowhere, that is why it is so easy to DNF...

Especially if you have CAT 1 Lightning (uncle's tips), you have 5 resting points to pick... always count 1, 2...resting points..and if thunder rain... then you would know, 3 is about 2-3km away....good luck...proceed..or return...1 or 5 is at Changi Beach Park...you decide for yourself...better to continue or DNFūüėÄ.

3 DNFs...uncle shared...so be prepared...reverse the route and do evening may be better...

It is just a silly Ultra! Run...who says you must follow the rules?
