Soh Rui Yong vs The Rest of the World : )

maybe this one was the condition set forth as the legal "resolution" since last year (2019) between SOH and SA...(see the reported info on previous post - Was there an issue between SA and Soh? what was the social media dispute with SA is and with whom?)

yes.jpg

as long as Mr Malik was not present...the new SA Committee...

yup.... it has been rather quiet so far on this case...

maybe we look at the legal process in-progress...

"defamation -> filed counterclaims"...Soh is a defendant as well as plaintiff...

it will take a longer...but, again, the matter can be resolved SWIFTLY and IMMEDIATELY with mediation out of courts such as...Legal letter to Soh sent as a last resort...WITHDRAWN...

A version of this article appeared in the print edition of The Straits Times on September 04, 2020, with the headline 'Legal letter to Soh sent as a last resort: Liew'.

Later there was a clarification note...

Very nice to read the resolution between SA and SRY.

Maybe I am reading too much into it, but I can't help but feel that Malik's departure from SA was not entirely voluntary.

I think it's painfully obvious what kind of character this Malik guy is when he (not sure if any of the exiting committee was with him as well) still had to stab Soh in the back on the last day of their service...

I don't think @kohpapahas any "juicy insider" grapevine on this Malik guy, do you kohpapa?

He did say his goal was to qualify, not necessary to win a medal...

With 2:22:00 as the qualifying time, yes he does need some work to reach that goal...

let's look at Mr Malik's SA appointment prior being the Executive Director..."relinquish his role as SA's vice-president (training and selection)..and pass to Mr Ang Peng Siong...

"stab" is not a word to describe Mr Malik because as a VP (training and selection) he did not appeal for re-nomination when SNOC turns down SA's SOH Nomination...but instead invoke "Disciplinary Issues" on account of SNOC's character attack on SOH due to he challenged on SNOC's investigation of Liew's Good Sportsmanship Award is not very "Truthful"...Liew did not SLOW DOWN...of course to "mock" the President of SNOC, Mr Tan Chuan Jin, Mr Malik's Employer Big Boss...to discipline or not to discipline...you go and figure...SA Code of Conduct...

Since the Resolution between SOH and SA is over, uncle would want to put HISTORY aside, but if what you want to know about what Mr Malik did to SOH and kena DEFAMATION...

Thank you for England Athletics standards...

standard.jpg
https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/news/2018-commonwealth-half-marathon-selection-policy

It is common for Singapore Athletics to select - based on the Bronze medal from the previous Games Record...

CW.jpg

hence, 2:19:36 (bronze) is taken as a benchmark...for SOH's selection...

but again, if there is no Local Marathoner able to get close to the Bronze Medal...SOH's 2:23:42 will be likely given consideration...unless SOH make it a challenge...qualify with honour...

And it's all conjecture of cos but surely having to face a defamation suit from an ex-team mate and potential disciplinary proceeding from the same association that is supposed to be supporting you, cannot be conducive for an amateur runner.

it is all....because of what you said in social media...if you look at on the broader context...how saga can lead to the next...

FB, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApps, blogs, even in Forum...expressed with diverging opinions , fill-in of emotional and subjective reasonings...lead to misunderstandings...

as we have been cautioned to all in this forum thread...don't anyhow say say...especially while the Courts are contemplating and pending in any decision...

otherwise to be kena sued until bankrupt until your pants dropped...

Soh vs Malik... OK understand Malik did not appeal for Soh to SNOC, and wanted to enforce "disciplinary actions" against him for Liew's lawsuit, most likely because of SNOC's chairman Mr Tan (his ex-boss, and friend friend buddy buddy?)... but still, don't understand, why on his last day of tenure, decided to kick off disciplinary proceedings against Soh, and have to leave it to Lien Choong Luen to undo the damage? Not sure what to call that except "stab"...

Selection criteria... I was under the assumption that, disciplinary or whatever external reason aside, as long as an athlete meets the qualifying criteria for an international sports event, he/she should be given the chance to take part? For events like SEA games, I can understand if the selection is a more stringent to ensure that we send only the best to compete, but Commonwealth Games is much harder to qualify and there is still an even harder target of top 3 in previous game to meet in order to be selected? In the last Olympics, I remembered we sent a women marathoner Neo Jie Shi over simply because she met the criteria of being in top 10 in the open category of SCSM, but her timing was never ever going to help Singapore get any medals...

Nomination by (National Sports Association) NSA, but final selection and decision is approved by SNOC...

Just like why 2019 SEA GAMES Marathon...

worst.jpg

how did Gordon Lim and Loh Yuting (Men's) got Selected and represent Singapore...you mean Mr Ang Peng Siong (as VP - Training & Selection)...was clearly responsible for nominating them...sorry to say...Mr Ang Peng Siong was always in Swimming (Pool) and not in Running (Tracks)....and no worry Mr Ang will hate uncle for saying, remember...we are bros...sports fraternity...but different sporting activity only...😀

Just wish SOH can do his best lah! To be the First Local Marathoner to be in

because he is the best qualified...winning a Medal is secondary...

selection for other Track & Field events will be determined for Trial in Nov 2020 and Jan 2021...followed by recommendation for Selection to be SEAG 2021...only SNOC will determine if SOH will be qualify

SA doesn't make decision, only selection SOH for recommendation, SNOC decides...so what do you think, even if SOH's timing has not only met but exceeded SEAG 2019 Gold Medalist timing...the only authentic reason was...SOH was never in SEAG 2019...

The drama continues.  🍿

Marathoner Soh Rui Yong alleges judge hearing fellow athlete’s libel suit against him is biased, should step aside

  • Dr Ashley Liew has sued Soh Rui Yong for defamation after they both competed in the marathon at the SEA Games in 2015
  • Dr Liew won sportsmanship prizes for his actions in the race, but Mr Soh has publicly disputed the actions
  • After eight days of hearings, Mr Soh alleges District Judge Lee Li Choon has displayed bias towards Dr Liew
  • The ‘crux of the dispute’ is the two runners' pace, but the judge had refused expert advice and eyewitness testimony, he added
  • Dr Liew’s legal team will be filing a reply on the recusal application to be heard in court, but had no further comment

uncle agrees with this one...

agree.jpg

pace is distance and speed...also determines endurance capability of an athlete...GPS records are denied for the day when the incident took place...then what else...subjective judgement that Liew slowed down, and so the court decides...Liew wins..☹️

remember, there was no decision on judgement on Distruct court yet...so...Soh can request for re-trial, and yes, a change of Trial Judge...

this case surely can go to High Court...so eat 🍿!

I was quite shocked when I read that the judge doesn't allow the actual facts and figures... there are always many perspectives to see the same issue so usually as many facts and figures submitted will allow a holistic judgement... again I am not a professional in the legal system so my thoughts definitely are not worth any cents... haaa....

150 page affidavit? Wow, if Soh didn't choose to be a sportsman, he could well be a lawyer himself...

It's unlikely that he wrote it on his own. It's mostly the works of his lawyers.

And if I'm not mistaken, affidavit are usually not single-spaced paragraphs (the way a book or a news article is typically written). So it's probably not a long as it sounds.

it doesn't matter...who write affidavit (unless in Self wants to defend ownself in Court),  very high chance SOH wants the matter to be heard at High Court..

reason468b453810ed9cf0.jpg

in Soh's FB.. he strong supported...High Court's decision on this matter...

why0bb53a5eb4f62cf6.md.jpg

now, that will be leave it to Ashley Liew and Legal Counsellor, let's go to High Court and settle this matter....

eat 🍿, the matter is not over yet...because $$$$$$$ money will be at stake...of course, both legal counsellors from both sides will be happy to draft 1,500,000 page affidavit ...
