So they just postpone the marathon just a few days before the run? Anyone here being affected?

Not this time and definitely never again by this organizer.  In 2016 I signed up for the first Sarawak Marathon Miri but a few days before the event I received an email notice that the event was being postponed to another date.  In it the CEO of the company quoted reasons for the postponement which were utterly rubbish and also contradicted what he said at a press conference a month before.  Naturally, the announcement generated several unhappy emails but the CEO's response was total silence.  As far as I know, no refunds were made to those who registered for the event.  It was too late even to change my flight and hotel booking so I had no choice but to go to Miri anyway.  As it happened there was another event held on the same day but late entries were accepted only for the fun run category.  So I ran the 5k where met a group of runners from SG in the same boat as myself.  From the Facebook page it's obvious the ATA run did not go well to put it mildly.

Anyone went for the Klang version?  Thoughts?

The date of the Klang version is Oct 14th 2018.

For those didn't register, you can register at your own risk as below:

Important Announcement :

Dear Runners of Selangor Marathon 2017 (17 Dec) & KK Marathon 2018 (07 Jan),

On behalf of the Organizing Committee & ATA, I hereby inform you that Selangor Marathon 2017 (now renamed Klang Heritage Marathon 2018) has been postponed to 14 Oct 2018 & KK Marathon 2018 has been postponed to 30 Sept 2018 at the same city as per attached event banner.

This difficult decision were made based on the following points:

a) Too many fake news, rumours by irresponsible individuals, groups on social media, printed media, about the credibility of the organizer and it's events. We were being branded as Scammer, Penipu, Conman, statements like don't get conned, don't be part of the statistics going round the social media. Lots of cyber warriors whom we checked were not even our paid runners.

b) Harassing our event partners, even our other event partners, chasing away our sponsors, bad mouthing, discrediting our credibility without even verifying the facts. Was these Malaysians' culture? We noticed some foreigners too and would be interested to know what was their agenda.

c) If you read the Laws of Malaysia, Act 576, Sport Development Act 1997 (as at 1 April 2013), you would notice that Marathon is not governed by the Act, neither do we need to get sanctioning from Sport Association concerned. Where were the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) described by said culprits?

d) Enough is Enough, we have since lodged a Police Report (dated 16 Nov 2017 at Karamunsing station, Kota Kinabalu) against Avtar Singh, the man responsible for putting ATA in the spotlight by having his fake story carried on front page at one of the leading newspaper in Sabah. We were told that it was an uphill task to have your story published on front page, and it might cost you a bomb if it was meant for commercial purpose.

e) Our legal team will lodge Police Reports further, supported by more than 300 screenshots that we have compiled with elements of defamation or fake news.

f) We will take Civil Actions against those individuals or groups after consultation with the Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, Malaysia Competition Commission, Local Authorities & Legal team. Of course, the process will take several months and we will keep you updated from time to time.

g) Please do not share, viral the fake news further or the law will be catching up with those responsible.

h) We shall not process refund as per the Sign Up Policy, and your running slots would be automatically carried forward to the new date. You may have an option to swap your slot to run at either Kota Kinabalu or Klang. Just notify us at least 2 months prior to the event date.

I) ATA had organized 03 full-marathon in the past 03 years with zero accident or fatality. Although it was not perfectly executed, but we got the guts, we wanted to improve on our next event, why big bullying small?, does runners only need one marathon a year in one city? and, Why sabotaging us?

j) We have had good working relationships with Local Authorities, Royal Malaysia Police, Race Marshals, Race Volunteers etc in the past, and we will ensure that we clear our name through legal process in the next few months. We wanted you to feel proud upon receiving our finisher medal, not with mixed feelings!

k) We strongly believe the new date are most ideal, given that few marathon will be staged on 1st half of 2018 in Malaysia, coupled with GE14 is just around the corner.

Meanwhile, all runners will also be receiving an email notification on this important announcement.

Do drop us a note at enquiry@ata.my, should further assistance is required.

On behalf of the Team, thank you for your kind understanding!

Sincerely yours,

Kho Sze Min
