Garmin Fenix3

Recommended Posts

Hmmm.. i might consider... just to protect the investment..

38mm screen size.

Did a pool swim today... the sensitivity and stroke detection seems very similar to F2...

F3 has a standard rest screen option configured whereas F2 have to configure ownself as another page for rest screen.

How was your accuracy for the pool swim? For me, the laps were way off.

I tried to minimise disruptions by "having proper strokes"

Even then might get some extra here and there or missing some.

Today got 1100m recorded vs 1000m actual. Extra 2 lengths.

I would say about there for F2.

Try using this to modify your fit file.

I use it to split or merge also to change strokes.

If getting the screen protector from overseas, maybe we can share.

My watch came with firmware 2.9, after adding to the garmin connect, it auto downgrade to 2.3.

Took it for a slow jog this morning, gps accuracy a bit off the running road with GLONASS on, 1s interval but overall gd enough.

I'm tempted to get this as well, but I'll wait for a while. Seems like a lot of issues reported at Garmin forums, and also here.

Standard Garmin.... all always problematic at first but after some firmware upgrade, they usually become tip top watch

I hope I dont get freezes... :S my runs have no issue so far

I wish that happened for the Fenix2, but sadly there were many disappointed Fenix2 owners.

i will advise against installing those 3rd party app from connect IQ,

its the main reason for causing freezes and restarts.

Yah, now my 620 is damn solid after countless firmware updates.

Lock on in secs.

Just hang on for the ride. You'll get there.

Changes made from version 3.10 to 3.20:
  • Added Hot Keys press-and-hold START and BACK key customization (Settings > System > Hot Keys).
  • Added Back to Start option for straight-line navigation back to activity start.
  • Improved Connect IQ stability.
  • Improved pace stability at low speeds.
  • Fixed issue with import of elevation of saved locations from GPX files.
  • Fixed issue with display of 3 digit speeds on ski data pages.
  • Fixed potential device lockup when exiting watch mode.

AH YES.. added back hot keys!

Back to start looks cool! More useful in area without obstacles.

Improved slow pace stability (GOOD FOR ME)

Elevation import fix always good! :D

Hi everyone!

I'm considering getting a Fenix 3, but I've read on the Garmin forums that the Fenix 3's GPS tracking and distance recording is really poor, especially when compared to the FR 920xt. Wanted to ask for advice on whether the watch is worth getting (especially because it's so expensive)! Thanks!

Hi,

IMO the tracking is indeed not as good as some other watches... esp the newer line of Garmin.

http://fellrnr.com/wiki/GPS_Accuracy  <- You can see Mediatek chipset performs quite poorly. Seems he did not do any testing on F3.

http://fellrnr.com/wiki/Garmin_Fenix_3 <- He does list some pros and cons

If you are lucky to run in areas without high rise buildings crowding the sky in SG, the watch is quite acceptable.

My pros are good battery life, widgets, apps, multi-activity, great configuration of the screens, daily wear, GREAT LOOKING ;)

So far my biggest cons are inaccuracy of GPS when disrupted, need HRM-Run/ Garmin Connect to fully utilise the watch features, the bezel may scratch :(

wahlao... they every 1.2 year launch one watch.. wtf.. is this now apple?

Very annoying when they do that instead of fixing their current line of watches given that the software itself is can be very much improved...
