Wow, Ah Siao tyre is there ... I read from CNA that seems he is the first one in the queue.

Ah Siao lives up to his namesake indeed....he actually started queuing from 9.45am yesterday. By the time registration started this morning at 11am, he had already queued for more than 25 hours :startle: !! Another record breaking feat from him....this time for longest queuing time in signing up for a marathon.

Either those who are queuing wants it cheap or want the shoes. (who knows?)

Just curious, anyone here is one of the runners in the queue?

Read on the std chart facebook that there are people who cut queue and cause some unpleasure. I think this is not unexpected...

Singapore is so small. Every one maybe friends of somebody. If you go there and find that your friend is in front of the queue, then you probably join your friend too. This also cut queue.

Cutting into queue when people have been there for hours is a disgrace. Very unsporting.

Agree. If I am those in the queue I will be super pissed also. What's this nonsense about 1 queue for 100000000 of his friends and relatives?

I wonder why Spectrum Worldwide (the organizer) never expects this and prepares number tags way beforehand. Just ask someone to go down on 15th night and early 16th morning to give out those number tags to those who queue early.

One should not expect free lunch. If these people wants to get the $1 slot and the premium goodie bag, it is rightful that they have to be physically there to queue. Imagine people joining the queue in front of you at the last minute and claim that their friends are queueing on their behalf.

If these participants can't even show basic social etiquette when queuing for registration, these will probably be the same culprits that have zero running etiquette during race day. Shame on them!! :growl:

By the way, anyone knows what's inside the premium goodie bags for the first 100 in line besides the $1 registration? Just curious...

    • Actually, one of the things I always look forward to in coming over for SCSM would be carboloading at some hawker stall. Once, after asking for a sixth order of rice, the uncle who owned the place just exclaimed  "哇!!!" (Waah!) 🤣 The only problem is that there always seems to be new construction constantly in Singapore. One place I ate at before was already closed with a new building being built over it the next time I came back, so its hard to have a favorite place to eat.
    • Now, what I'm going to say next may be a somewhat unpleasant topic among runners, but the reality is that among fellow athletes.... there are some who cheat. 🤔  Although this has been minimized now in modern races with timing mats/chips and vigilant marshalls on the course, in less sophisticated events, some dishonest runners take shortcuts, surreptitiously exchange bibs with a faster runner somewhere along the course (so their times come out better), and in one ultra, board their support vehicle when they think nobody is looking, then get off 10-20km later down the road! I don't know what goes on in the mind of those dishonest people who later claim their finisher shirts and medals just so they can brag on their social media accounts of something they did not rightfully accomplish. They are only fooling themselves. They may be actually very few in number, but if they are so thick skinned to be able to do that in a real race, how much more in a virtual one based on an honesty system? They may have  rode a bycycle, or used roller skates/ a skateboard for all we know! IMHO, that is why a medal/finisher shirt from an actual race will always command more respect and honor amongst us runners than that from a virtual one.
    • I agree. Crossing the finish line at SCSM by analogy, would be like earning a diploma from NUS, while a virtual run on the other hand, would be like getting a certificate of some online course from some shady internet school. You may have truly done the coursework and gained the appropriate learning in both cases, but when you present your documents to a potential employer, the former will be solid proof of your accomplishment and hard work compared to the latter.
    • I like this statement: We all look forward to a positive future and I believe that this is a great first step in that direction. Marathon is a sport whereby elite athletes and fun runners are actually racing in the same race. It's what makes our sport unique and I find the essence of this to be beautiful.
