Prevent Common Running Injuries: An Orthopaedic Specialist's Views

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, as fellow runners, I just thought this latest blog post may be of interest to you. It's an interview with an orthopaedic surgeon about the most common running injuries and how to prevent these. He shared some pretty interesting tips with me and you may want to know... since I know and you know exactly how it feels to be out of running because of a crippling injury... Somehow, not being able to run, feels a lot worse than anything else....

Yeah. It feels totally horrible, right? :(

Btw, if you don't mind me asking, what injury are you suffering from?

I'm not sure at this stage, actually. Have a pain outside my knee. Saw a sports physician recently. Initial diagnosis could be any one of a few reasons. But the one they are trying to rule out is a stress feature. Have a MRI scheduled in 3 weeks time. Could also be brought about by my tight calves, hips, lumbar (lower back), IT band or hamstring. Been following a couple of simple stretches and exercises recommended by the physic to loosen my back and fire up my gluteus.

So it's strictly no running now for the foreseeable future.

Wow. That sounds bad.

I gather this knee problem has already bothered you for quite a while? Hope that it didn't start to annoy you too long ago...

Hope you can get sorted out and return to running soon.

Wah, since Jan... Doesn't sound good.

But hope you managed to do a decent race at Tokyo Marathon.

Anyway, best of luck for your MRI scan and hope the result turns out better than expected.
