This on my calender too. The direct flights on Tigerair will be a plus point as well.

The event website is at http://www.chiangmaimarathon.com but currently contains mostly information on the 2013 event.

Before you book on Tigerair, I suggest you keep an eye on Silkair as well - it can be cheaper because their prices include meals, check-in baggage, movies, 'convenience fees', more comfortable seats and much better service.

On the Chiangmai marathon website, there's a listing of the various countries whose runners are taking part in the Chiangmai marathon. Singapore is up there in 3rd position after US and Thailand. Seems like there'll be a sizable contingent of runners from Sg.

Some could be expats working in the region.

Temperature was good throughout (below 25). No crowding as there were about 800 runners for FM. Generally flat course. Not much of crowd support but onlookers and traffic were generally quite considerate. Adequate hydration stations and other stations e.g. water-melons, bananas, muscle spray. For those aiming for PB and not wanting to travel too far, this is a good race to participate.

Temperature was in the mid teens.

Two songs to describe this CMM : 寂寞公路 by 伍思凯 and "The Long and Winding Road" by the Beatles. This mara is truly a road race (road and expressway).

Those who really want to test their mental resolve can try this mara :)

you mean there isnt many supporters (or any) and the race also don't have many runners.... so perhaps there will be some point in time where one will feel all alone...... hmnnn.....

Theres only a couple of hundreds of participants for the FM, hence I can slowly stroll to the front of start point. FM was flagged off at 4 am, HM one hr apart (IIRC).

Yes , few supporters, only road marshalls and policemen to direct traffic as roads aint fully closed as only those divider cones were place to crave out some space for runners. Still a fairly well organized city marathon.

icic.... how about the scenery around the city?? ran thru any nice scenic places?? looks like there aren't supporters other than those at the water stations....hahaha...

Chiangmai is not a very big city. Not much of scenery if you exclude the typical morning scenes of shops and roadside stalls getting ready for business. As for the volunteers at the water stations, I thought they were rather quiet even though they did the refilling of cups and handing them out to runners quite efficiently. The best support came at the finishing point from other runners.

hmnn...... ok... have to reconsider this marathon... and readjust the objective......

Chiang Mai in Dec, is the nearest (not sure abt Vietnam) to SG where you can experience really cool temp, for running / leisure.

Enjoy Chang/Leo/Shingha...massages ....weekend flea markets and lots more...

Try it next Dec!
