[Medal Hunters United] List of ELM Medal Races

Recommended Posts

I created this thread to be the definitive list of races that issued ELM Medals.

For runners who collect running medals (collectively members of the Medal Hunters United) nothing comes close to the quality, finishing and workmanship of an ELM medal. So its highly sought after and increasingly more races has started issuing them.

Most of HiVelocity events issues ELM medals, along with the yearly Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore. Other races like Jurong Lake Run (despite being a CSC organised run) has been issuing ELM medals since its inaugural race in 2011. Pink Apple has issued a few ELM medals in previous years but it was in 2014 that it has started to issue more ELMs medal for its events. In 2015, Pink Apple is the leading race organiser that is issuing ELM medals on a consistent basis. On the other hand even the marque HiVelocity event, Sundown Marathon stopped issuing ELM medals.

For avoidance of doubt, only medals with the stamped 'ELM' will be regarded as an ELM medal in this thread. Medal with 'ELM' like quality and finishing but without the 'ELM' stamp (eg. AHM 2013 medals) will not be included in this list.

ELM medal higher quality than others. Pink Apple NEVER give out ELM medals in the races they org but at least they dun rust & usually with special design.

Worst so far encountered are the ones from mizuno races, will rust & erode other medals if u put them together.

Ok, a compilation of races with ELM medals:

1. Run 350

2. Sundown

3. Standchart

4. Adidas KOTR

5. SAFRA run

6. Jurong Lake Run

Pls add on to the list if there's more

uncle add to the list of ELM's medal.. Singapore International Triathlon..

2qxu.jpg

agree with bdsaint and the rest of Medal Hunters United..it's about the medal, the order, the design and decorations..and with that distinctive hallmark..ELM..Quality.

and yes.. the Jurong Lake Run 2013 finisher medal recently in 7th july..

6p0m.jpg

and uncle's favourite competitive 21km race..SAFRA Bay Run..

wvy3.jpg

and sicklycat..you got Jurong Lake Run 2013 finisher medal..check ELM print on medal..maybe the ribbon "hide" it..and something about the ribbon on every ELM medal..uniquely thick..and sawn well..to hold..the medal..and to sicklycat's list of good quality medals..

Energizer night trail and Venus Run (ladies) - not ELM

GE Women's Run - yes, ELM

o24z.jpg

bdsaint.. please update.. GE women's run.. a quality women's run with an ELM medal..and HiVelocity is the event organiser in 2012.. and this is SAA sanctioned event..meaning national standard of athletics excellence..just almost to the next level of IAAF of StandChart Marathon..now confirmed..Spectrum Worldwide (SWW) siingapore..shall be the organiser for SCMS 2013..so expect ELM medal..also..

and for Pink Apple portfolio of events..shall expect no ELM medals, unless, they say so.. http://www.pinkapple.com.sg/portfolio.html

sicklycat..your question.."But wonder why are they the only recognised ones in SG?"..

taking races of KOTR Singapore.. ELM one in sg.. but other countries KOTR.. no, local medal respective of countries differ.. let's take KOTR philippines 2013..got that ELM-trademark logo or not?.. mmm

69510_641756175853460_74654887_n.jpg

as compared to those ELM sg ones.. including KOTR singapore 2012..

medals+2012+(H).jpg

now understand.. ELM medal.. a hallmark.. only in sg..

yes, this is 2012.. Race Against Cancer..finisher medal.. 15km..everyone here is talking about..

4f51.jpg

and yes.. the the Energizer medal.."quite decent too, so why is that not good, just because its not made by ELM?".. cannot say like that.. Medal-Hunters group has strong preference..and some others, don't.. but always that decorations..in design..with that engraved.. iconic 3D distinctive look..and yes..the quality of medal..as evidenced by that weight of it..ribbon sawn always in triangular knot to secure the medal..spells out the pride in owning..a personal quality ELM medal..that's all..

so far we have compiled a list of ELM-medal races, and these are some of the local most competitive ones

1. Run 350

2. Sundown

3. Standchart

4. Adidas KOTR

5. SAFRA run

6. Jurong Lake Run

7. GE Women's Run

so, all know why..these ELM-medal races are so hot and popular..and yes, very congested...and of course, very competitive also..

of all ELM medals.. uncle missed out Run 350.. ok..last one not shown yet..enjoy.. :turned:

7lmn.jpg

I'm beginning to think that you can tell an ELM medals just from the plastic cover that the medal come in.

The 3 ELM medals that I have in my collection (Sundown, JRL and Run350) comes with a solid plastic sleeve.

Non-ELM medals comes in flimsy disposable, re-sealable plastic bag.

Also noticed that its confirmed that Pink Apple events does not issue ELM Medals whereas HiVelocity events does. Coincidence or fact?

upz for awareness bro lonewolf :thumbsu:

Yes have not seen any ELM medals by PinkApple so far too.

HiVElocity...hmmm...this one must research more.

But SAFRA AHM (dun know who organise) and SCMS also ALWAYS give out ELM medal thus far.

Singapore Triathlon by TAS also give too but this year didn't sign up because their Singapore Aquathlon didn't give an ELM medal. Must ask kohpapa on this year's one since he's our 'inside' man :goodjob:

ok..have so much fun @ RAC 2013.. ok..

"ELM medals comes with a solid plastic sleeve."... normally do.. but, in some races like TAS sponsored triathlon, duathlon and aquathlon.. volunteers unwrap the solid plastic sleeves, and was instructed to place them onto the incoming participants' necks..as an honourable gesture..and so.. immediately.. protection is off.. yes, rust can happen..especially if the issueing is @ECP.. salty sea water breeze..corrosive..

and Singapore Aquathlon 2013.. this one is co-hosted with metasports..and decision of medals..is not TAS anymore..and for those taken metasprint series.. all non-ELM..so ah noob ie runner.. uncle answered "their (TAS-events) Singapore Aquathlon didn't give an ELM medal"...because this is not TAS event, but metasports one..

TAS-event.. this coming Cold Storage Singapore International Triathlon (regional Asian-Triathlon Union sanctioned competition)..this is of equivalence of OSIM 2-year back, 2-day, with international elites and pros coming for day 2.. prestigious one..and so.. must issue standard ELM like in 2012, ..from uncle the 'inside' man, some said 'outside' woman also.. everything also must know..and must find out one.. :turned:

very enlightening post kohpapa. Thnks

Now I know to avoid Metasprint series. Even their predecessor Tribob also cheepy medals.

Speaking of which, TriFactor series also don't give ELM medals.....

A bit regret not signing up for Cold Storage Singapore International Triathlon but going away for KL marathon :P

Not sure if AHM gives out ELM medals every year. The ones before 2010 don't have the ELM stamp but they seem to be of ELM quality. The 2011 medal was lighter and was of a poorer quality in comparison. Also no ELM stamp on it.

Is it only me or does anyone else find last year's SCMS medal rather poor quality? I received mine with a chipped corner and rust under the ribbon. Also find the finishing on the medal is different compared to the previous years. ELM medals usually have a brushed metal look but not last year's.

ongaku.. thank you for pointing out on the AHM medals..

yes..the ones before 2010..have same round-like COIN type..and don't have the ELM stamp.. and so..seem to be of ELM quality..

maybe, we did always state.. ELM medal.. must have ELM stamp...may not be true in some cases.. and so uncle researched.. and came across someone who noticed that in 2012.. there is an ELM.. but, why no stamp in the 2010 and 2011..and yet also of ELM quality..

0aau.jpg

so, let's establish common understanding.. ELM medal.. must have ELM stamp.. yes..otherwise, look for ELM quality.. or ELM quality with that unique ribbon sawned in triangular knot..or ELM medal also must come with the plastic pouch..eg.. SCMS 2008 then with adidas..but no ELM stamp..but that unique ribbon sawned in triangular knot..

all NO..

Preferred Clients of ELM..

z179.jpg and HomeTeam NS is not in the list..

taking ntuc run-350 7lmn.jpg

and compare to the medals of REAL runs of 2012/2013.."the 3D iconic runner" of ELM..stands out.. and..that typical..triangular knot sawn ribbon..yes, no "ELM" printed..but, ELM design and material of medal..is there..

of course, cannot use the Preferred List of Clients to decide...ELM medals..but, in recent races..budget is also taken into consideration.. and ELM has "special" projects with clients who wants the ELM design..such as in medals.. like Race Against Cancer.. why 2012..yes, ELM..and 2013..exactly duplicate design..but no ELM..the missing element is the design and material in the RAC 2013 medal..is not ELM quality..

of course, Jurong Lake Run 2013..uncle had hit on the race fees which were rather premium (with 20% contribution goes to charity)..but, the outcome in post-race feedback.. taking the bold decision of not postponing/cancel the event because of haze, and receive good report in race administration and management, except on the location of race pack collection..and the finisher tee, cool to have in almost all categories..and the finisher medal..simply excellent..just like scms type (always that comparison)..which is the hallmark of ELM quality in design and material (with ELM print some more)..convince all JRL 2013 participants..shall be a prestigious race to look forward in 2014..

and that's the reason.. ELM medal.. will always represent..a rewarding race experience..with pride..and maybe that explains also something about ELM's Preferred List of Clients..which some represent Organisers in Races..must also live up to the standard of "ELM's Distinctive Pride of Excellence"..and..so far.. these Race Organisers have delivered the high expectation and quality..races for the participants..and only through post-race feedback.. look at all the forum threads of those Local Competitive ELM-medal type races..often enjoy yearly top viewers.. Sundown..SAFRA Bay Run..SCMS..KOTR...

and that's why.. uncle select races..of quality..must be competitive and rewarding in experience..because the outcome..is always..the pride of owning..ELM medals..while the rest of non-ELM medals type races..mmm...don't take part..don't waste $$$ and time..

The updated list of races which issue ELM medals have been updated in the 1st post

Notably absence from the list this yr compared to 2012: Race Against Cancer, AHM, TNF100

The list of medals is based on the 'ELM' mark engraved on the medal. No other indicative signs (eg ribbon design, quality of plastic cover etc)are used to determine if the medal is an ELM medal or not. So even if a solid medal looks like an ELM medal (eg AHM), if it does not have the ELM mark, it will not be treated as such.

Yup, another way organisers are cutting cost by giving out lesser quality medals (non-ELM) which they had given out in previous years while at the same time raising the registration fees.

    • This is not the first time I had joined a race organised by Tampines Central CSC. But in many ways, this is probably the worse I had attended. Not that it's very badly organised but given the breadth of experience Tampines Central CSC has in organising races, you expect them to put on a better show and take care of some very basic things.  #1 Very poor pre-race communications. Near zero participant interaction at event Facebook page. #2 No event guide. No race program.  #3 No cup at hydration points. 500ml water bottle handed out to runners needing a drink. #4 No baggage deposit service.  #1 peeves me the most. For goodness sake, if you want to maintain a public FB page, pls have someone to respond to questions and queries and interact with participants. If not, why even bother? A lot of questions left on the FB page were just left unanswered and many who signed up were clueless about basic things like race pack collection details, flag off time, race route etc. Race Pack Collection details were posted 1 day before the actual collection. Race routes were only posted on 23 Feb. #2 is not a show stopper but you expect basic things like race route, water points details, flag off times to be available with the race pack. I am sure many of those who signed up does not even know that there was a lucky draw (even though it was printed on the poster). MC did a good job in reminding everyone about it though. #3 Again basic stuff. I had seen other races when this is done when hydration runs out for the slower runners and a lot of runners just chunked the whole bottle away after taking just a few mouthful. Very wasteful! Thankfully, this did not happen. Probably because the number is small and the runners who joined this race are more considerate and gracious.  I took a bottle at the first water point and run with the bottle for almost the entire race. It's not the most fun thing to do. I mean if I want to run with a water bottle, I would have brought along my hydration belt. I do not think it's unreasonable to expect races to provide runners with cups at hydration points (BYOB races exception of cos). The more I think about it, I think the decision to give a whole bottle to runners was probably deliberate in an effort to reduce littering on the race route. In that aspect, it works because I think I only see one bottle of water being discarded carelessly. And of cos, no cups used at hydration points means no cup litters to worry about.  If my suspicion is correct, then perhaps the CSC can think about sourcing for smaller bottles of water instead (250ml bottle). It's easier to run with a smaller bottle and there is probably less wastage.  #4 is a major inconvenience especially as this is one of the items those who signed up for races would consider as 'basic service'. Of cos, it is the race organiser's prerogative not to provide such a basic service as long as it is made clear to potential participants before they signed up for the race. I only found out about this 3 days before the race and I had to adjust my plan. I cannot imagine what would have happened if I had turned up for the race with my usual backpack. I would have to run with it for the whole race! I wondered how many people were caught off guard by the 'no baggage deposit' service. Probably quite a few from my observations. The above are areas for improvement for the next race - Coney Island National Day Run. I hope Melvin (Vice-Chariman of Tampines Central CSC?) can take note. Overall, it's a decent race experience because of the relatively small number of runners and the always enthusiastic volunteers. For a group of part-timers (?), they definitely do a better job than XE (then again, XE is a joke and kind of a low bar). Personally, I still think they do a better job than some so-called professional event organiser (no names but you probably can guess who I am referring to! )
    • If you go for the non-competitive 10km then you still get medal + finisher tshirt + singlet and it comes at $49.50 per race for bundle. sounds quite reasonable no? personallu i don't care about the timing, I use my own app anyway for timing haha
