Fantastic organization this morning with water points for the 10km route. Free singlet, race belt, key chain, towel and most importantly getting some free coaching and insights into how to improve our runs :)

Singlet was before. Towel and key chain were after. Race belt was after too but you had to connect thru your Facebook account there and then to 'check in' before getting the belt. This was my experience at Mobile Run 1, I believe the next 7 is the same :)

What you mean 'connect thru your Facebook account there and then to 'check in' before getting the belt?

I meant after the run, we had to queue up to collect our momentos such as key chain and towel. Only when you showed them that you had logged in to your Facebook account and checked in your status, then they gave the race belt. That was last week. Not sure if we will be given another singlet and everything else again. Will be nice if so :D

How was the pace like?

Team BMW runs serve both for runners as well as for pacers. Depending on your preferred pace, you run with the pacer groups undergoing their pacer training at the same time. This morning, distance per loop was 6km. I chose to run with the 4hour15min pacer group doing a 6min/km pace. Distance is up to you and you can fall out at any point in time. Hope this explains :)

I wanted to sign up for Mobile Run (MR) 2 within 24 hours of the email notice, but all 150 slots were taken up.

So, one earns 10 points for attend MR2. Question is, did all 150 people who registered turn up? If some don't, perhaps they should have 10 points deducted? B'cos they deprived others from signing up and joining in the run.

for those who like uncle cannot "see" what Team BMW's gifts for joining them.. http://www.mycarforu...ntry&id=62234 a cap, wrist band, race belt and the best of all, a dri-fit T shirt ..to train for pacers.. means "volunteers"..unlike last year..volunteer pacers were not given sufficient time to train and get to know each other better..and that was the feedback..and this year in 2012.. at least uncle sees the effort to train "volunteers" from all walks of life..better training program..must give kudos for such efforts..

so what's the difference between Team BMW and Team Sundown (aka Team FatBird) in both marathons?.. the Team BMW organises a training plan for volunteers..while Team Sundown is a running club make up of passionate runners..who not only organise runs for the public, but also for their members..and every runner who is present seems to know whom they would meet..familiar faces or somebody of similar passion (running fraternity)..of course, Team Sundown pacers are nominated within their group..for Sundown marathon run

uncle wishes well..Team BMW runners who volunteered to pace..and the demanding training that they have to put up with..respect...hope all of you end up with the "prizes" or gifts of.. http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?act=attach&type=blogentry&id=62236 .. as your motivation..

The BMW TEAM mobile is for normal runners to run/learn from the pacers.

Just wondering is the participants given a free shirt for every run or only for the first time?

    • Was looking forward to the actual run as I've never participated in this event before. Completed the 21km virtual run yesterday. Initially thought was only given 2 weeks to upload result which would be unfairly difficult given the short notice if one has not been running regularly. Fortunately, I've been running 21km every weekend since March. First time did 2x 21km within 4 days. Thankfully my Plantar Fasciitis is still holding up.
    • OhMyGod, 50 pushups, well done ūüĎć ¬† Saw Lexus Tan facebook, he own self say know qi gong,¬†can apply.¬† ¬† I scare scare, should I call?¬†
    • Slightly OT, but from the Straits Times article quoted by Lady Ice: A time of 2:46:57 is fast of course. Impossibly fast for a slow runner like me, but whenever I look at race results from marathons elsewhere in the world, and compare it to the times of our best runners of countries in Southeast Asia, even if one were to exclude the times of African runners from the equation, our runners here in SE Asia appear to be outclassed. I've always wondered why???¬†ūü§Ē Even in Japanese marathons, the Japanese winner's times are usually at 2:30++ on average. Are we at some disadvantage because we live in a hot climate, compared to those in temperate countries? When I mentioned to a runner from Victoria (AUS) that I usually run in temps of¬†27-33C, his jaw dropped...
    • SCSM T shirts are also usually sold at the pre-race expo, not just in SCSM but also other IAAF certified¬†marathons in other parts of the world. The actual finisher shirt handed to you at the finish line¬†is of course¬†different though. I have nothing against those who want to buy a souvenir¬†or presents for family and friends back home, but I strongly believe¬†finisher shirts should be earned. Medals are usually just made of cheap metal or plastic, but to a runner, that "token" represents all the blood sweat and tears¬†¬†you put into finishing the race. I don't remember where I read this, but there was this story about a guy whose wife completed her first marathon in Chicago. He told his friend: "I just bought her an expensive designer bag. That finisher certificate she¬†got from completing the marathon probably cost the organizers a few cents to print.¬†If she had to choose between the two¬†of which to keep though, I know it would be that finisher's certificate & medal on our wall!"¬†ūü•ī
    • I‚Äôm not a local, so I didn‚Äôt know the story about that pastry chef, but the link to the Straits Times article was an amusing read. It said he picked up running in 2011, and only runs 1 km at each time (!?!?!?) on weekends, yet he managed to cover ¬†19kms in an actual race before giving up. I suspect though he probably walked most of that. If he could cover that distance running without training though, he must be either gifted, or very fit from another sport or life activity. Imagine what he would actually be capable of if he just took the time to train properly!
