Raidlight Lantau 50 and Lantau 100, 2013 Hong Kong

Recommended Posts

Just to re-live one of my most difficult challenges to date, I have written my account of the recently completed Lantau100. Did the HK100 in Jan and now the Lantau100 and this takes the cherry. It's a long read so am not posting here as it will take up too much space. So if anyone is interested to share my adventure or just look at some photos, log on to the link and hope one day, we can share the adventure in person.

Sky61 - Great write up and good timing. I am not sure if we have met or even know each other but hope to have the pleasure one day.

Hi Gentle. Was glad you came up and introduced yourself at the start. Sorry we didn't get a chance to talk much but good to put a face to a name. Hope we get a chance to run together next time. Cheers.

hi dvdwng,

nice report of the tough race!

i'm also glad to meet you on that day - your writeup and photos for last year helped a great deal in visualizing / planning for this race

(and i'm sure your LT100 report will benefit someone for next year's race)

maybe we should have a LT runners gathering run :)

Although the going was tough, you did great in completing it. That is an achievement to be proud of. Happy to assist anyone who wants to experience the trails of HK/Lantau. Tough, challenging but absolutely beautiful trails and weather. Yet so close to home. Not forgetting all the good food :)

don't think i will be back for this race - and i won't recommend any of my friends to do it (except those who enjoy pain) :P

Hi Gentle,

Great report. Thank you! Though each of us are entitled to our own opinion and recommendation, I kinda disagree that you would only recommend this race if one is going for "pain".
In this race, there are many +ves that any future runners would be reaping by participating. Briefly include the great challenge on a very difficult course, great view and great aid station/support. And couple with the relatively inexpensive registration fee and great location for after-the-race shopping, sight-seeing and makan, I think this is something we could even promote and not to "discourage" other runners.
Then again, as I said, we are allowed to form our own opinion base on our different experiences of the SAME thing. So, no love lost and hope to meet in you in your next race.

Cheers

haha reubencht - i said that tongue-in-cheek

come to think of it, i fully agree with you...other than being a tough race, the experience / venue / weather / view is actually really pleasant...

so if you prepare yourself well (like climb BT hill 5 - 10 times during training), you will probably enjoy it very much (and finish the race before the sky gets dark)

btw i went back to lantau island on 19 Mar (Tues) afternoon...and it rained super heavily (it was almost dark at 3:30pm) i was really glad it didn't rain like that on race day!

thank you for clarification ... as your comment could be taken at face-value and mistaken by other runners that may not know better.

climbing BTH via Dairy Farm Road is one option and doing it up to 10 times without rest (per "interval") would be a "better-than-nothing" training in SGP.

    • I am guessing the registration price should be around $40-$50 so that they make it seem like you are getting more value than you paid for. It is an unique entitlement for sure, but unless you are a collector or you have a girl that you can gift the pendant to, otherwise not exactly useful...
    • guess most of the $88 goes to the crystals.....
