  1. I'll give a personal perspective of someone who cut the race short. I joined in the run at around the 10k mark and ran till the end (ie i did 32k). Collected the finisher shirt and medal. Also have a finishing time (but missing the 5k n 10k checkpts) Why did I do so? Well firstly I dont usually run marathons in Singapore anymore cos its too hot to PB, and its not like I'm in contention to win a prize. I do like running though, and I love the atmosphere at SCMS. Hence I already decided months before the race that I would probably just do the last 30ish kms as a training run, instead of bashing my legs up doing a full marathon. I did try to remove the timing chip on the bib. Normally it is some glued on thing, but this year the timing device is embedded into the bib and couldnt be removed unless u cut that section of the bib out. I do feel abit bad about having a finishing time, because it may affect the ranking of people who finished the full race. But I do also think the organisers have a duty to remove runners with missing checkpoint times such as myself from the final results listing. Lastly, I did collect the finisher shirt and medal. Funny thing about SCMS finisher shirts. The first one I ever earned, I really treasured, and even felt abit paiseh to wear it in public cos I didnt want to be though of as "showing off" (it was just a 5 hour slog/walk after all). With subsequent marathons, the value of such finisher shirts has diminished to me, I hardly wear them anyway, and it also seems like soooo many people have marathon finisher shirts these days. I normally dont accept the medal at most races, but the volunteer offering it at SCMS was so ernest that i didnt want to reject her. So there you have it. One perspective from the other side of the fence. For your discussion please =)

  13. the barriers are towards the end of marina promenade near the sea sports centre. Not major barriers la, although they disrupt momentum abit. Lazy people tend to find it hard to get moving again after stopping
  14. I'm newbie what. Mommy said if don't know must ask. TIGGER BULLY MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE this is a route where some of the runners run at tempo pace all the way... some do fartlek along the way... while the rest of us are glad that we can complete the distance last time out it was more like steeplechase, had to climb over/under barriers
  15. thomas claimed that he did 7+ (loops) wa hes the man. he also said UK ironman the bike and run legs got double digit gradients. (ie >10%)
  16. wa brokie, ur reply very ninja i was referring to our rabbit "zhi lei"... (boston qualifier)... as for babumouse... he seems to run faster when thomas is not around (i am now eager to see their next IM showdown) as the LS, the lady in bright pink!.... she was at cruising speed ... tortoise? OH! This one I can volunteer. hahaha...... so this week there were: rabbits, mouse, tig(g)er, shark, etc Only the pest spray was missing ... next week should have cat, dog, chicken... tortise..

  18. thomas did ironman UK in 13:05 over the weekend. but im confident bbm still runs faster.
  19. there was once at cbd run got major thunderstorm. at the stretch alongside ORQ i was prepared to turn back already cos i thot its wayy too heavy a rain to run. then as i turned around a whole bunch of the CBD run ladies charged past me. felt kinda paiseh so continued running.
  20. if u take the road between ORQ and NTUC building, you'll come to a juntion where a left turn will point you towards MBS run past MBS shoppes, helix, etc, and at the end of this road theres a small hill with a traffic junction. turn right at this junction and you'll get to the Flyer. Anyway Flyer can see from very far right. Wont get lost one unfortunatly the section at the Flyer has alot of fences thanks to F1 season now. still can run.. but not so nice distance from ORQ to Flyer.. maybe 2k? from flyer u can continue on marina promenade for a few (3?) more K before hitting more obstacles.
  21. well.... F1 has the priority in that area... the old marina south route is our favourite 10km TT (time trial) route... when the place re-open in a year or two, hopefully it will be a great route to run... -------- we were prepared to call off the run last night at 7pm... until... it stopped raining at 705pm ! ... some of us reluctantly (including me) put on our running gears and went for a cool weather run... we can now use the "one raffles quay" pavement to reach the marina bay sand and singapore flyer without passing through esplanade (usually crowded with people)... boss, for the CBD indoor stadium route, can we perhaps change to running along nicoll highway during this F1 season? eg, after esplanade brigde (if still using tt) instead of turning right towards the Flyer, we continue running straight, past Suntec, and then eventually that will take us to indoor stadium too.
  22. everytime F1 comes around, they'll put all the blockages up, so frustrating. wa i miss the days when CBD run could do the marina south route
