the way i see it - experienced runners become pacers for a race because they see it (and want to) as "giving back something" to the running community. it is also an opportunity to encourage new runners, whether young or old, to continue running throughout the race and knowing that you have "made a difference" to someone's race. when someone volunteers to be a pacer, it is a commitment to go through all the training to ensure that the specific timing is achieved. the person MAY be "giving up" a chance to run a better timing (and I said MAY coz many factors affect a runner's timing) at a specific race as being a pacer mean that you complete the race in the specified timing, not in the "best" timing one can do for that day/race. hth :tongue_smilie:

DO - heard you have not been feeling well. Take good care and recover soon! Appreciation and thanks for organising the nice run this morning. It was great to return to MR (despite the killer slopes!) after a 17 years' break! Thanks Ultra for the 100+ and oranges; and Beng/Suan for the bananas.

acidburn - thanks for your good pacing. And yes, I thought I was halluncinating due to fatigue when I saw DO coz it was totally beyond my expectations! :Big Grin: Kopi as token of appreciation - anytime! Starbucks, CoffeeBean, Spinellis, Ya Kun, Coffee & Toast, Kopitiam kopi or Nescafe 3-in-1! As long as I don't have to drink the kopi myself coz I am allergic to kopi! :Tounge: Pssst kopibaby, Are you by any chance "hinting" that you are likely to treat them for Kopi as a token of appreciation?

I posted the following in the TFB Training Schedule thread but I think it deserves another mention here of the good job done by TFB pacers. Well done, TFB and Thanks! " Would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the 4.45 pacers of Niwas, acidburn, KokSan and Heng. I managed to find them at the starting point 3 mins before flag-off; I was so worried that I will be late! The coloured balloons are really a good idea! Niwas' first words to me was "You OK?" - coz Niwas know about the panic attacks I was having before the race!. I gave him a thumbs-up sign and that set the mood for the run. The 4 pacers were running together throughout; and it was nice. With the encouragement of KokSan and Heng, I broke away from the group at the 30km mark. I met DO at the 40km mark who was also very encouraging. Thank you so much TFB pacers for your tips, support and encouragement during the training sessions and the run today. My only regret is not getting to know all of you much earlier. Thanks again! "

oooh, can't wait! :w00t: kopibaby, thanks for asking. Many are keen to know the identification of TFB at startline. We are working out the final details and preparations, and will inform all the coordinating instructions and pace strategies a few days before the BIG DAY. Stay tuned
