  2. Athletics: Woman dies after Hong Kong marathon collapse Video Link: HONG KONG: A 52-year-old woman runner who took part in the Hong Kong marathon died on Monday (Feb 13), a day after collapsing on the finish line of the 10-kilometre race. The amateur athlete had been in a critical condition after the event on Sunday, which saw 74,000 competitors pound the streets. Hospital authorities said on Monday that the woman had died after she became unconscious and was taken into intensive care, but gave no further details. She had participated in the race with her husband, who accompanied her to hospital, local television reported. Sunday's marathon took place under blue skies but pollution levels were deemed "unhealthy for sensitive groups", with the Air Quality Index at 126. Of the runners who took part, 11 were taken to hospital on Sunday, including the woman who died. Two of them were also in a serious condition, according to local media. Authorities on Monday said six people were still in hospital and all were stable. Ethiopia's Bizuneh Melaku Belachew smashed his personal best to win the main 42-kilometre race in a new course record of two hours, 10 minutes and 31 seconds. Ethiopia also claimed first place in the women's race, with Gulume Tollesa Chala crossing the line in 2:33:39.

  6. Run half way, Runners can eat LAKSA......Wow!!! So yum yum!!!
  7. I don't carry key during my run. I put my key hide in somewhere that nobody can find it. Carrying key in running is bad coz keys are sharp object,
  8. What to achieve in 2017? Runners here always think about themselves....never think about other. You mean, in life.....running....running...running. Achieving PB in marathon, no injuries and do more races in 2017 year...etc. I just share mine one....My resolution for 2017. 1. Running once or twice weekly to make myself HEALTHY! 2. Beside running, I must do charity or volunteer works to help people who are in need. My life is MEANINGFUL. 3. I don't achieve makes me more stressful. I ENJOY MY RUN in smelling flower paces. 4. Beside competitive run, I want to sign up few Charity Run such as Terry Fox, Metta Run and Run for Hope....these runs are meaningful to me. A way to contribute back in the running society. 5. All runs are my money to run at ECP, Bedok Reservoir, Park Connector, Coney Island....FOC~! The money saved....I can travel oversea with my love.
  9. <A Historic Moment>Out of the blue, this message appeared "Hey, I wrote a university thesis on Teh Tarik, not sure if it can help you"We were totally intrigued. Turns out he is Stef Fung. The international race director for Spartan RaceAsia. His thesis, "Fluid Mechanics of Teh Tarik". Why does Teh Tarik taste so much better? Is it because of the oxygen content in the froth? Does the number of pulls affect the taste. How much froth is optimal? With a sample size n = infinity, he spent many a lonely day and night walking outside Yakun and shopping malls, getting people to drink his Teh Tarik. He got a B for this ! School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), NTU, Singapore has produced a fine chap. An ex commando, you be surprised at his quiet demeanour belying the macho we expect. Thoughtful, sincere and just straight up leader of men. He also regaled us with tales of how he built his team, quitting his job, exploring his limits, how The Collective Movement provides free training for the community. We are mightily impressed. Teh Tarik really unites. This photo documents the historic milestone moment when we met quite a Titan.
  10. There were 507 participants, 449 finishers for FM, according to the website FM results. There are about 4000 participants in total, so I would take it that this is a smaller scale event rather than a run for the elites. that said, the FM cut off seems to be at 6 hours so to a certain degree this is definitely more competitive than many other marathons. It is good to run with these serious runners, not like SCMS....people walk together and block your way to run faster which they are infront of you. 500 serious marathoners can help you all to achieve your PB like Dr. Mok Yin Ren did it in 2011. In addition, no people blockage on the road and you can run faster. Anyway, I checked the result, there are slow runners who did 6 hours plus in the marathon. Akane81 and Beast....for your standard, you both can do Sub 4 easily in CHCH Marathon.
  11. Yes. You can do your PB like Dr. Mok Yin Ren did in provided you train and set a goal to achieve. Below is a very good report on Dr.Mok. Mok Ying Ren wins Christchurch Marathon in personal best of 2 hours 26 minutes 34 seconds 2 By Colin Tung on June 5, 2011 Nation in Motion running Views: 4,258 Story by Colin Tung/Red Sports Mok Ying Ren in his marathon debut in 2009. (Photo © Lai Jun Wei/Red Sports archive) Christchurch, New Zealand, Sunday, June 5, 2011 — Mok Ying Ren is going places, literally, in his quest to break distance-running records. A week after running 14 minutes 51.09 seconds in Japan to break the 5000m national record (pending ratification by the Singapore Athletic Association), Mok lowered his marathon personal best, by over a staggering 10 minutes, to 2 hours 26 minutes 34 seconds in winning the Christchurch Marathon in New Zealand. According to the official post-race report, Mok beat two-time Christchurch Marathon winner Phil Costley who had to settle for the runner-up position in a time of 2:29:29. “It was very hard. It was windy and Phil was strong. I had to run very hard to win, so I am happy,” Mok was quoted as saying in the report. Mok’s latest marathon time puts him just outside two minutes of the national record of 2:24:22 set by Murugiah Rameshon in the 1995 South East-Asian (SEA) Games at Chiangmai, Thailand. Rameshon was 30 years, 11 months and 12 days of age at the time. And at only 22 years of age, Mok has time on his side as he seeks to add yet another distance-running national record to his name. This was only Mok’s third marathon since making his debut at the 2009 Singapore Marathon, winning it in 2:43:42. He shaved five minutes and 15 seconds off his time in repeating his win at the 2010 Singapore Marathon. With today’s 11 minutes 53 seconds improvement on his Singapore Marathon time of 2:38:27 from last December, his cumulative progress through his first three marathons is 17 minutes 9 seconds. His next marathon is slated to be this December’s Singapore Marathon, after he runs the 5000m at November’s SEA Games in Indonesia.
