  1. I don't know about the others, but for me my "complain" of running the same route was more of a minor one. I also understand that it is very challenging to come up with new routes every now and then since Singapore is so small, but it would be nice to make some changes to the route, no matter how minor, so as to keep the run "fresh". That's why I am one of those who welcome the change of Sundown route this year though we have to conquer the dreaded heartbreak bridge - at least it feels different from last year. To the overseas runners, I guess the route will still feel "fresh" to them coz they don't run here often, whereas we run the same ECP route for at least 3 runs a year, not to mention we can easily run the same route on our own time as well. Same theory for us going to overseas runs - the locals may also think it is a bore to run the same route every year, but we as overseas runners won't feel it that way.
  2. Where did u get the route info? Could not find any link in the website. http://www.marathonsingapore.com/race-routes/ Clicking on the map pictures bring me to here.com with the maps. Logo on the here.com is showing the 2013 year marathon logo. Suspect it is still the 2013 route. Haha no need to suspect. These are the same routes for the past years. They probably just cut and paste last year's info and put on the site first. But he fact that this page is live yet not found on the main page means it is not final yet. You can either take it the positive way (they maybe planning new routes and update as necessary) or negative way (they do not want runners to know in order not to affect the sign up rates).

  4. Mixed feelings to know that it would be the same route again, with no changes at all. While it is a safe "template" to use back the old routes, I do feel that it is really time to make some changes to them already to maintain novelty of the race. But SCMS is Singapore Sports Council's baby, so rental of the new sports hub should be at minimal cost.... (or so I presume)
  5. If they reserving the Priority+ fee of 500 for the road show, that means only 2000 gets to enjoy the Priority+ fee rates from online sign ups (doubtful that community road shows will have the priority+ fees anymore after 16 July). Priority+ fees also available for Community road shows - 50 slots each for Full, Half and 10k. 100 for Kids. Oops missed that. So that means another 250 slots less for the initial sign up? Or are these specially reserved slots for the roadshows? Yup. On the facebook page: online registration opens at 12.01am on 7 July. So for those non-SCB cardholders but ran last yr, who's staying awake on the 9 Jul 0001 to sign up?? I always sleep past 0001 every night so no difference to me haha.

I highly doubt there are 2000 Standard Chartered Bank cardholders who also ran in SCMS13 during the first 2 days. Therefore, as long as you are a 2013 runner, and you sign up on the first day of 9 July, you should be able to enjoy the $65 rate. Any later than that you will probably have to pay $8o. For the new runners (who doesn't have a Stand Chart card) or those who missed running in 2013, high chances are they will have to pay $8o when registration opens up for them.
  7. Singapore too small lah. No matter how they change the route, they will still have ECP cover half the FM. It is the most cost effective route and it has some shade and breeze to protect runners from the morning sun. Hope they will look into starting and/or ending at the new Sports Hub for a slight change in scenery.
  8. Great to know that there is no substantial increase in prices. Will sign up again this year!
  9. Haha nope didn't follow their fb page. Thanks for sharing! I wonder if I should take leave again to sign up at the road show. Queue for 3 hours under the sun just for a $5 reduction in registration fees, a running bag, and a chance to win an expensive watch (forgot what brand is it). Regardless of what we may think of SCMS and our personal motivation for joining or not joining, I think its pointless to compare races across countries, and conclude that its cheaper over there, so its not worth joining over here. Of cos there will always be a cheaper race elsewhere. But not everyone may be willing and/or able to race overseas. The issue of registration fee will always be an emotive one. Not very different from cost of housing and transport. Whatever there's an increase, we grumble about it. Of cos unlike housing and transport, we can make a decision not to join races if we think its becoming too expensive. That a choice every runner choose and everyone should respect that. Just as I hope runners do not take those who are willing to pay the registration cost as suckers for succumbing to the whims of the race organiser. Yup agree that it is pointless to compare the registration fees of races overseas due to differences in cost of living and expenses. But I do wish that there is another set of standard other than IAAF certification to indicate how "good" a run is. The IAAF certification does not take into account things like race atmosphere, quality of logistics management etc. If there is a website like the IMDB for movies where runners can rate the runs they go to, that would probably be very helpful for people to consider what kind of overseas run are worth going for.
  10. Sadly a IAAF labelled race does not necessary equate to a run that provides a great running experience. More for marketing to sponsors and rationale to increase registration fees.
