  1. One thing they could have done better was to clearly publish the cut-off times at each checkpoint: eg 5km by 6:30am, 10km by 7:25am etc, and the minimum pace required to keep within the cutoffs (this could be stated on the website, race guide, and even on the actual route). Therefore, it wont come as a shock to the slower participants when they get diverted. This is standard for the 2 marathons Ive taken part in, Sydney and Gold Coast. http://goldcoastmarathon.com.au/enter/cut-off-policy/ http://www.sydneyrunningfestival.com.au/enter/blackmores-sydney-marathon/marathon-cut-redirection-points Regarding the unhappiness over the diverted runners getting finishers t-shirts and medals, I think it stems from a uniquely Singaporean phenomenon, to like to hao lian the t-shirt, and as such egos get bruised when the supposed less deserving runners receive these items as well. Ultimately, personal pride from completing and doing well in the event should triumph these tokens of participation. If I took part, ran the full distance to the best of my abilities, the medal/t-shirt is a mere reminder of my efforts that day. What others did or didnt shouldnt really have an impact on me. ".. stems from a uniquely Singaporean phenomenon, to like to hao lian ..." -> this is a blanket statement, not all runners like to hao lian.
  2. Yup, was reading it too.;-) And approx. distance between drinks station is 5km!? Cannot find the clause on mandatory requirements on awards. Anyway don't think our own scms finisher medal and tee falls into category of 'awards'.
  3. I hope this incident will not stop her from participating in future races. She did not deserve the humiliation, in fact she should be given credit for even participating and attempting to lose weight. That's all I can say.. Unintentional damaged done and the author has tried to recover. Must ST need to rub salt by putting her name, age in national paper for more people to read?
  4. Hahaha, talk about bo jio (no banana) in SCMS14. What a coincide that there is the Banana Relay coming this weekend.
  5. I thought this is the 2nd yr for Spectrum Worldwide to run this event? Both Sports SG and Spectrum need to be accountable for all the problems yesterday. Maybe Sports SG should run the event themself. Hope no fatal injury due to heat stroke. http://www.sww.com.sg/what-we-do/ From Spectrum Worldwide website, "The event operations team at SWW has grown the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore into a world-class sporting event which continues to attract a record number of participants year on year. The team led the successful transition of the event concept from one common start/finish line to the new three start points and one finish point in 2010. After consistently delivering successful operations for the event, SWW was appointed the master tender for full event operations, which oversaw all planning and execution of the mass participation running event for over 60,000 runners." So this should be their 5th year running the SCMS liao. Oh, so they were one of the sub-contractors most times and eventually became the main contractor. Seems like its too big a pie for them to swallow. Thanks for clarifying.

  7. Did saw gel wrappers lying on empty table on few stations. Not sure why was the table and wrapper there. Felt cheated :-(
  8. End at Padang better. Central, transport better and more food options after run. Family members can go shopping while waiting. Rental of National Stadium will be expensive, which imply reason for increase in registration fee.
  9. $1/- only if willing to Q overnight. Cannot transfer bib leh.
  10. Not necessary same registration price as stated leh. $65/- reg for FM only restricted to 2500.
  11. Your point brought back memories of the Hunger Games for me, haha. Out of all those "eligible" contenders, one male and one female will be "chosen" by ballot from each district to 'represent' their district and battle each other in a game of survival (i.e. running for their lives). Throughout their survival challenge, they will face obstacles (i.e. cramps, dehydration, hunger) and must battle it out for the ultimate crown of Hunger Games victor i.e. winner. May the odds be EVER in your favour - as Effie Trinket says. The champion will be the one who outlasts everyone else to survive i.e beats all of the others. Anyway, as to what SCMS really means, I guess we runners have to just wait and see. Ha ha... hmmm... think Dr Mok stays in Central or North, they hv higher chance...
  12. Maybe a 'competition' among the diff district?
  13. has not set their status
