  2. Went down to SPH last weekend to collect the finisher items. It was held in their auditorium with about 7 or 8 small counters and their staff behind a screen. There was a small queue forming but everyone kept their social distance and things were moving fast. Collection was done in less than 10 minutes. They gave a small goodie bag with 100 plus and some sponsor's snack items. But of course I was only interested in completing the trinity medal.

  5. Some personal thoughts on the virtual run version: 1) I understand they are trying to be different from the others virtual run, but man... you need to register as a team? Unless your other half is also a runner, or you have very close friends who are just as enthusiastic about runners as you, it will be hard to attract sign ups. 2) Collection of entitlements is seriously a hassle....and if you want them to be mailed to you it would come at an additional cost....seriously for the high registration costs they can't factor the cost of mailing these to the participants, like what the oth

  6. I used a website called Flourish Studio to animate the bar chart. This is a good guide if you want to give it a go. But I largely ignore using python and what not (step 3) and just make sure I format the data correctly in Excel before I import it to Flourish Studio.

  7. You are probably referring to @beast post about the numbers because I have not posted any recent comments about it. I agree that the numbers of reported cases need to be put into proper prospective. And unfortunately, not many of us can do that objectively. The thing to remember is that numbers are just presentation of data and can be easily be presented in alternate ways. I do not like to use the way 'manipulated' but all articles that uses numbers presents it in a way that best suit their needs. A lot of the govt bashers like to compare our numbers with countries like Hong Ko

  9. Mass running on the scale of 2XU is not coming back this year. And possibly next year. The authority just announced a pilot scheme allowing 250 participants. That is not even 10% of the typical scale of 2XU. So there's no way Pink Apple can think about holding a race this year. And there's probably no way they can refund the participants (most of the monies from registration is probably spend by now). So I can foresee them declaring 'force majeure' and cancelled the event without refunds. They were suppose to give us the race pack for last year but again, there has been '

Vaccine isn't a cure... it is just to prepare your body to manufacture the necessary antibodies to combat covid... Side effects... it may take "doses" to really to say we are Covid-19 "free", but really?!? Even though virtual runs may not be the most preferred option, virtual runs provide runners a choice to get their runs done... well said, let's say 2021 may still be a year when run-in place race may still have postponed or even cance

We have revised said survey based on the given feedback and apologise for the "clickbait" in the prior post. We hope that you guys would continue helping us in gathering insights and more feedback from this year's Virtual Run. Revised survey: https://forms.gle/VrqRJm7G6T9AfTam7

  16. Well, this VR thing is an interesting twist... wasn't there an exhibit booth like this at one SCSM expo some time back? Frankly however, I shun all the apps, etc. I stick to the basics (running shoes+ shorts+ technical fabric top + put one foot in front of the other & repeat) and that's all I need! Oh, alright, I'll concede one technological compromise though, and that's a GPS watch that can last at least 12 hrs in run mode. No MP3 players, bluetooth, or touchscreen features either, just time + distance reading's fine.

The app is good.... it is just like if you are driving a car... the way the GPS works... and as we run past some places of interest, there will be some introduction as well... its quite fun, but i do get lost once a while, unclear if need to cross the bridge or not, so would need to take out my phone and look at the GPS...

  21. As stated earlier, I have got a 50% refund and plan to run outside zoo premises. I think it is not possible to transfer this race to next year. just like 2xu, as this year is last edition and the venue is slated for further development. Just move on lah.
    1 point
  22. If running in the zoo is not allowed, and so the best they can do is to ask runners to run own time own target to earn the entitlements, then I don't see the problem of them calling it a "virtual run edition"? Sorry but I don't really see what is the complain here. Speaking of refunds, I thought some runners shared that a partial refund was given? Did you or did you not get one as well?
    1 point
  23. We are not allowed to run in the zoo due to safety concerns. This was the organizers' reply in the FB. And I do respect their decision. Imagine many 'solo runners' run at the zoo with presence of other non-runner visitors. Past editions, the race was always, if I am not wrong, started before the official opening hours of the zoo.
    1 point
  24. Don't know why you guys want to "mock" this event, now that it has turned virtual and adding some virtual experiences that have nothing to do with the zoo. Given this current situation, there are really limited things that the organizer can do to make up for not having the actual run. It's not like they wanted this to happen too. At least appreciate their efforts, ya?

  27. Some people are just in denial. Many other behave as if they are invulnerable to the virus. That's why it's impossible countries like US, Brazil or India to control the infections. Even here where we have a lot of KS people (all the different KS variants), there will always be people or companies who choose not to behave in a social responsible manner. It can't be help. It's just the nature of the beast (pun intended!)

  30. That being said, I don't care if all the running organizers close shop and go bankrupt. New ones can reincorporate later,.but the athletes (even the non-pros like us) have to survive this pandemic first...and not just survive, but survive intact (i.e. still able to run!) BTW, the article I quoted above advises folks to be exceptionally vigilant, even if you have no symtoms. Its actually more dangerous without any symptoms because: That's what makes this virus so dangerous. You may not know you have it (no symptoms yet) and you might actually be making yourself sicker (and a

  35. Running is very harsh on the body. You're talking about forces 3 to 4 times of your total body weight crashing down on your body with every step, no matter how efficient your form and bio mechanics may be. You multiply those stresses over the entire distance and time you run, and its a miracle that we actually don't sustain any damage afterwards. For those runners who are disciples of the "barefoot or minimalist" school of thought, it might even be worse. The human body is a resilient machine, but we also have to care for it and not abuse it too much If you still feel uneasy, perhap

  36. Was looking forward to the actual run as I've never participated in this event before. Completed the 21km virtual run yesterday. Initially thought was only given 2 weeks to upload result which would be unfairly difficult given the short notice if one has not been running regularly. Fortunately, I've been running 21km every weekend since March. First time did 2x 21km within 4 days. Thankfully my Plantar Fasciitis is still holding up.

  43. It's the end of the month so I have made an update to the Bar Chart race. I have removed SEA countries that have reported low number of COVID-19 cases like Vietnam, Brunei, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia. In their place, I have included countries in our region with comparable cases like Australia, Japan and South Korea. I also received feedback that the music I used in the last video was a little edgy. And so I though what can be more appropriate for a Bar Chart Race than Vangelis' Chariots of Fire from the classic running movie. Enjoy the race!

  45. There is star wars virtual run @ https://starwarsvirtualrunsea-registration.liv3ly.com/ My personal preference for virtual run is it should be at least HM and above and shouldn't cost too much. E.g. I am taking on 'World Cities Online Challenge' by spacebib. It is 42 km and the long distance motivates me to plan multiple runs to complete it. Virtual runs in a way do instill some kind of discipline, which is good, to complete them.

  46. The registration for the run started last year. I am not surprised it is like what the organizers said much of the money have already gone to pay the suppliers/contractors and thus have no time to nego any kind of delay payment or cancellation to them. But I think they can postpone to later half of year or next year. Of course if they can full refund will be best. Virtual race is definitely not worth that kind of registration fees the runners pay. Runners are paying for a total experience in a race and not that kind of 'lonely' feeling running solo.

  47. I agree with you there. Who would have known something like this could happen? Especially for those who managed to get a slot in a race like the Tokyo Marathon and pay the expensive fee... I feel their pain and know what it's like. Back in 2012, I was supposed to run the New York Marathon. Everything was going well but they cancelled it because of Hurricane Sandy. Then the following year I had nagging injuries so I've never been back. Ah, but life goes on! I'll stop running when I'm dead!

  48. Another race has been postponed. I think it's a good idea to summarise all the cancelled/postponed race on the 1st post as an easy reference. As it can be quite difficult to keep track of all of them in the thread amidst all the white noise. I have also changed the title of this thread to reflect the official name of virus - COVID-19. I initially started this thread mainly to discuss the impact the COVID-19 will have on organised races but I also recognise that thread can easily evolved to be a 'catch all' to discuss on all things COVID-19 for some of our more enthusiast
