  2. Went down to SPH last weekend to collect the finisher items. It was held in their auditorium with about 7 or 8 small counters and their staff behind a screen. There was a small queue forming but everyone kept their social distance and things were moving fast. Collection was done in less than 10 minutes. They gave a small goodie bag with 100 plus and some sponsor's snack items. But of course I was only interested in completing the trinity medal.

  5. Some personal thoughts on the virtual run version: 1) I understand they are trying to be different from the others virtual run, but man... you need to register as a team? Unless your other half is also a runner, or you have very close friends who are just as enthusiastic about runners as you, it will be hard to attract sign ups. 2) Collection of entitlements is seriously a hassle....and if you want them to be mailed to you it would come at an additional cost....seriously for the high registration costs they can't factor the cost of mailing these to the participants, like what the oth

  6. I used a website called Flourish Studio to animate the bar chart. This is a good guide if you want to give it a go. But I largely ignore using python and what not (step 3) and just make sure I format the data correctly in Excel before I import it to Flourish Studio.

  7. You are probably referring to @beast post about the numbers because I have not posted any recent comments about it. I agree that the numbers of reported cases need to be put into proper prospective. And unfortunately, not many of us can do that objectively. The thing to remember is that numbers are just presentation of data and can be easily be presented in alternate ways. I do not like to use the way 'manipulated' but all articles that uses numbers presents it in a way that best suit their needs. A lot of the govt bashers like to compare our numbers with countries like Hong Ko

  8. Postively agreed. Run events here, for Elite Runners, for those who want to PB, for Faster Runners, for Slower Runners, for Walkers, for Tourists who simply just want to stroll to participate - must make sure there is Enough of Water. Team Run - promotes Team spirit and perhaps, when they can run individually from 5KM/10KM/HM/FM. Community run format for Sundown Marathon may be appropriate for 2020. Run for Charity. Inclusiveness for those who are EnAbility to "Run". Sometimes, when we run events, are we conscious that there are others who are in the running course, who ma

  10. Many of the races are implementing the booking of timeslots. Not sure if this is going to be the new normal moving forward, even after the pandemic. I am sure this will be effective in easing congestions at race site or during the race routes, but it adds another layer of pressure if you aren't fast enough during the registration and you are stuck with less ideal timeslots. I remembered that too, so for the sake of a unique race experience I will consider signing up for this. Again, I am going to harp on the price - why am I charged more for running a longer distance, if there is

VR medals of SCSM...indeed...crappy... if you talking about this and comparing this to BAA...agree...on sale at carousell... the one that uncle discussed about BAA is limited special package offered only for 3 months, and it is not a VR series, it is a #finishSTRONGCHALLENGE... because of Covid-19, these races were cancelled...and the medals were the exact ones "unicorn" medals, even if you should go to 2020 Boston Marathon for 5K/10K/HALF...run in person..."unicorn" medals... let's move on... when Covid-19 pandemic is around...when there is no

Vaccine isn't a cure... it is just to prepare your body to manufacture the necessary antibodies to combat covid... Side effects... it may take "doses" to really to say we are Covid-19 "free", but really?!? Even though virtual runs may not be the most preferred option, virtual runs provide runners a choice to get their runs done... well said, let's say 2021 may still be a year when run-in place race may still have postponed or even cance

  17. Thanks for the those who provided feedback for our survey. As we are students, we are still learning on how to conduct a proper feedback survey. We have revised said survey based on the given feedback and apologise for the "clickbait" in the prior post. We hope that you guys would continue helping us in gathering insights and more feedback from this year's Virtual Run. Revised survey: https://forms.gle/VrqRJm7G6T9AfTam7

  18. Hahaha! It’s just that I remembered many years ago, my friends and I were arguing whose turn it was to go to the nearby convenience store to buy drinks & snacks for everybody. The conversation went something like this: Runner 1: “You guys do it.” Runner 2: “I’m tired...” Me: “The sun is up. It’s so hot already! I don’t want to move anymore... ” Runner 4: *Wearily stares into the distance with a blank look* Runner1: “What’s with you guys? We all just ran 25kms without a single complaint. Why are you all so lazy now to just walk a few more blocks to the 7-11?!?!

  19. That's GREAT to hear that uncle is participating in so many other events, except for this one. And if that is the case, then it may be better that we let those runners who are or may be participating in this event to chitchat here.

  22. As kohpapa has pointed out, it is costly to do a guided run like this with the need to create a separate app for it. Which is why this run is more expensive than the other virtual runs. And this will not be the new normal because not everyone is OK with the price tag, or want to download 10 different apps for 10 different virtual runs. People rather just run simple.

  25. I didn't request for a refund so I don't think they did a refund. Anyway I didn't check. My entitlements arrived. I'm running for Team Canola - Run For Clean Water and they gave me the manatee plushie. Just what I wanted.

  26. I have actually received 50% refund of the registration fees. And with the additional entitlements, I think the organizers are trying their best to be fair to us. Hence, I will not take the case further with the organizers. To get as close to the actual race as possible, I think I will just do this run starting outside mandai zoo to upper seletar reservoir and end at Yishun. I believe this will hit 12 km bah.

  28. Some people are just in denial. Many other behave as if they are invulnerable to the virus. That's why it's impossible countries like US, Brazil or India to control the infections. Even here where we have a lot of KS people (all the different KS variants), there will always be people or companies who choose not to behave in a social responsible manner. It can't be help. It's just the nature of the beast (pun intended!)

  30. That being said, I don't care if all the running organizers close shop and go bankrupt. New ones can reincorporate later,.but the athletes (even the non-pros like us) have to survive this pandemic first...and not just survive, but survive intact (i.e. still able to run!) BTW, the article I quoted above advises folks to be exceptionally vigilant, even if you have no symtoms. Its actually more dangerous without any symptoms because: That's what makes this virus so dangerous. You may not know you have it (no symptoms yet) and you might actually be making yourself sicker (and a

  33. To be completely honest with you, I do that too. But I didn't declare a jump from Wave G to B like this guy, I declared about an hour earlier so that I moved from Wave F to D. Being in the last 2 pens is more mentally and physically draining. You will encounter a lot more slower runners who will tend to walk, and you will run into a higher risk of support stations that run of water or food/gel supplies. Being in the front waves motivate you not to slow to a walk and continue to slow jog, as well as ensure that there are still sufficient water and supply support at the stations. I kno

  36. Was looking forward to the actual run as I've never participated in this event before. Completed the 21km virtual run yesterday. Initially thought was only given 2 weeks to upload result which would be unfairly difficult given the short notice if one has not been running regularly. Fortunately, I've been running 21km every weekend since March. First time did 2x 21km within 4 days. Thankfully my Plantar Fasciitis is still holding up.

  37. the green corridor south of the Bukit Timah Railway Stn is "quite in progress"....red pavement for hike/walk/run....so no need much updates on the 10.5km all the way to Tanjong Pagar Station... But for to CCK side of green corridor from Bukit Panjang (aka Gombak) to Kranji via Yew Tee...being there before many years ago...mostly run...have not explored on the latest...but it is still "rail corridor" once... So little time with Covid-19 CB going to be lifted soon....uncle would say, "Sure, may be soon..." like why not this weekend....for Sundown Ultra! Run (Green Corridor) Trial 1....

  41. The registration for the run started last year. I am not surprised it is like what the organizers said much of the money have already gone to pay the suppliers/contractors and thus have no time to nego any kind of delay payment or cancellation to them. But I think they can postpone to later half of year or next year. Of course if they can full refund will be best. Virtual race is definitely not worth that kind of registration fees the runners pay. Runners are paying for a total experience in a race and not that kind of 'lonely' feeling running solo.
