My first Mizuno Wave Run

After the NB Aquathlon, which wasn’t too bad considering that I didn’t get to do it “one-shot” due to the rain cutting short my race(I did my swim and had to stop for a while before resuming the run), I helped out at a friend’s running clinic at East Coast and we had dinner and chit chat session till almost 11pm at nite…

Thinking of the Mizuno Wave Run the next morning makes me cringe..haha… 6:30am meetup at Kovan and I’ve to leave earlier to pick up 2 other friends, Skyvers and my colleague… some more had a little talk rot session with TLR and ended up sleeping around 1:30am or so… luckily dad work me up at 5:30am and it was a mad dash to leave the house and flag for a cab. hehe.. i knew things would be good when I didn’t have to wait more than 2 minutes for a cab. Met up with Skyvers and later my colleague and we reach the MacDonald’s joint with only Deathscythe in sight.. oh yeah and DO on his way as well cos we saw him running towards MacD… hehe

Soon everyone started to come along and after all the hulla bulla …. the race was off with the competitive group starting off first… I was running with Rainbow in the fun run category and as she had just did a 10km run on sat at the the running clinic whereas i was at Aquathlon, we had already settled for a leisurely fun run today :)

We started off at the back of the fun run group and was in a very casual and relaxed pace from the beginning… first thing which strikes us was the barricaded path…cool… cos I had read and heard that last yr, this wasn’t the case. Definitely a good start i think… we then move along and was chatting all the way before we saw the first few runners on the other side of the road heading back…woah.. hehe.. and here we were, just starting out not long! hahaha…. and it wasn’t too long when we saw TLR running along… shouted to him and he looked over and wave to us.. haha.. then next up, saw Skyvers, but i think he too engrossed… shouted his name, he sort of glanced a little but continued on.. hehe… we were joking he was too busy trying to catch TLR.. haha…

I started to take a few shots of the route and the people running … got stopped by the traffic police a few times at the junctions… oh well, it was a leisure run, so i didn’t complain, but it would be a pain in the butt for those who are out competing and trying to get a good time… I didn’t really grab any drinks along the way cos I had my fuelbelt with me… and I joked that I’m a running water station for Rainbow and she didn’t have to worry about running out of water… haha

It got a little hotter along the way and by the u-turn, we saw that most of the water points were empty! Gosh.. and there’s still quite a bit of ppl running/walking along.. quite surprised that the drinks got finished up so quickly… hopefully they will cater more next yr… some runners were grumbling to the volunteers but i think it was really uncalled for… it’s not like these sort of things were in their control… anyway, i could feel the runners need for the drinks as well cos the weather was getting hot. We then saw a really nice gesture from one of the volunteers, she actually gave up her water to a runner who was in need of water, I’m sure it’s her own water cos no water points in sight at that area. Really nice of her!

We jogged and walked a little along the way and was just enjoying ourselves… saw some kids running with their parents.. hehe… they were so cute with their running style… head bopping everywhere and exaggerated body movements.. hahaha… saw a teenager with a red tshirt saying “There’s a Tiger behind every Lion”… immediately i tot of Kops21’s bouncing tigger icon… so I took a photo of his tshirt to show Kops21 later.. haha…

We pass Kovan MRT soon and saw the signage showing “300m to go”… hehe… u mean it was over so soon? haha… doesn’t really feel like a 10km run when u are enjoying your run…haha.. felt like it just got started not too long ago..haha…

We reached the finishing line and after some quick hellos to fellow SGRunners, went to queue for our goodie bags… 2 of us had to collect 6 race packs in total for friends as well.. hehe… no S sizes left, so replaced the S sizes with M instead… went back to the SGRunners group and intro Jogger to the rest of the SGRunners… TLR was busy collecting money for the tshirts and banner and we took our usual group photos with banner and hang ard there for a while longer before making our way for makan. While walking there, TLR called to say Carine had won a 10th placing and the whole group made our way back to the stage just in time to take photos and cheer for Carine as she got her medal! Woo hoo! Way to go girl!

Makan session was at a coffeeshop nearby… DO took order for 100Plus and I did for the misc drinks.. hahaha… luckily wasn’t too shag and managed to remember all the orders! Had dim sum with Rainbow and Skyvers and managed to “remind” Renohtaram to bring out his donation card… hehe.. we eventually agreed on a single entry donation under SGRunners’s name. Cool…

Group split up soon after that and I’ll miss everyone for the next 2 weeks(and the forum as well) while i head on for my reservist training in Thailand… so till then… best wishes to all those doing AHM… run well and run safely!

I’ll see everyone when I’m back! :)

Cheers
